  1. Worse to be a Bills. Last nights loss was our game against the Redskins. Two months ago.
  2. Yes, the Texans never had to play a game where their starter was out. And we're still on the couch. Cool beans. 6 years ago. Doesn't the rest of the NFL realize that means we should be in the playoffs this year?
  3. That would be one of the necessary "knockouts," IMO.
  4. Since when? I keep hearing this and it's just not true. There's never ever been an adage in the NFL that you need two elite CB's. Ever. If we lower the '16 cap number significantly, I could see it. I suppose lumping together the CB's as a whole makes it easier to swallow. I said this last year (and I was dead wrong for a numerous of factors) but I believed that Whaley has to knock out a draft in order to get this team over the hump. I'm talking an All-Pro player either out of the box, and/or a very good starter in the late rounds. Like how the Seahawks grabbed a couplel All-Pros in the 5th that turned their team around. It looks like that will again be the case, Gilmore extension or no. Clearly I was wrong before because Darby played at a huge level last draft and we still didn't get over the hump, but I'm going for .500. I don't think being inactive in FA and drafting a couple role players is gonna do it.
  5. They made the playoffs.
  6. What's Gilmore's cap # for 2016 w/o a contract? And what would we reduce it to if we gave him a top 5 CB contract? My contention is that it's not like Gilmore is going to play himself into a higher contract in 2016, you know? Hard to get higher than a top 5 contract.
  7. Right, Darby has to prove he can play at this level, no doubt. But he was elite in 2014, and we still had a bad passing D. If Darby plays at an elite next year as well, I let Gilly lock walk. If he doesn't, then this is a different conversation.
  8. Well, I think the "best" elite position is QB, and I think that's the purpose. 2 elite CB's can't even prevent your passing D from not being in 20s, but an elite QB is a franchise changer. It makes the other 10 positions on offense better. You don't find that kind of effect at any other position. GIlmore isn't really a leader, more of a role model and teacher. He doesn't appear to be a vocal leader in the locker room. Plus, if Darby is better than him already with his teachings, he's not necessarily needed to teach Darby anymore. I'd rather let Gilmore walk. Elite CB contracts aren't worth it on your second-best CB.
  9. I know that I'm one of the resident Marrone apologists, but I think this is a good read. Lots of parallels to the start of Coach Coughlin IMO. http://www.theplayerstribune.com/giants-tom-coughlin-tribute-coach/ From Strahan - We all heard stories about how strict he was coming from Jacksonville. I don’t think too many of us were looking forward to playing for him when we found out he got the job. The issues I had with his coaching style early on were well-documented. It all started from one big argument I got into with him. I think when we both laid it out there, it was clear that we both wanted to accomplish the same things. We were just coming at it from different perspectives. And from that point on, both our mentalities shifted. He stopped being hung up on whether our socks were too low or our cleats were the wrong color. And we stopped viewing him as a boss, and more like a father who just wanted what was best for us. Sounds like Coughlin had a rep as a control freak and hard-ass, but at his second stop, he eventually mellowed out and compromised with his new team.
  10. Well you could say we need elite at every position John. It's just unrealistic and not truly necessary to winning.
  11. Yep. You don't need two elite CB's in the NFL, unless you have a terrible defensive line who can't get to the QB......oh......crap.
  12. Okay, so you think that Marrone is getting interviews purely because a couple of tweets, instead of GM's and owners doing their due diligence? Seems to be less likely to me. What about all the terrible HC candidates that get interviewed? What conspiracy explanation do we have for them?
  13. He's interviewed with teams. Do you think they just bought the Schefter hype? Doug has some photos of Tannebaum in drag?
  14. It's very easy to talk yourself into a narrative. I doubt these owners and GM's scrambling to hire the best HC available are wasting their time interviewing Doug Marrone as just a favor to the agents. But hey, if you assume that's true, everything else fits!
  15. Let Gilmore walk and keep McK. Saves us cap space. Overpaying DB's never works out.
  16. It was. Now it's not. Now it's just tiresome.
  17. Yes, I can see how that's exactly the same as turning the ball over 3 times for 21 points.
  18. He blew those games up? What?
  19. What kind of thin-skinned OC would feel "infringed" if his HC called a TO in an obvious situational call? This isn't a debatable situation. It's obvious to not waste 35 seconds of clock on your opponents' 7. Sounds like Roman doesn't remember who the boss is.
  20. Then why bring it up? Is clock management not an integral responsibility of the coaches? How does the fact that TT is "an autonomous, sentient being," change that Rex/Roman also should've called a TO? It sounds like you're trying to spread the blame around. Please explain to me what point you were trying to make there, besides trying to absolve the coaches of blame. Also, in the same breath of calling TT inexperienced, you also say that he "should've" known better. Maybe our coaches could give him a hand, seeing as they are also aware he's inexperienced. Maybe? If Rex is so incompetent on the offensive side of the ball that he has to tie his own hands behind his back, and refuses to even call an obvious time out because of his fear of screwing up or lack of ability, how is that not an indictment on Rex? Also, if Rex is getting credit for bringing in a competent OC for the first time in 5 years, why does he not also share blame for the screwups of that OC? Arguing that Rex is a glorified DC who is HC in name only is not a good look when arguing about his competency as an HC.
  21. You don't believe Tyrod tried to force it to a covered Hogan partly because he only had one shot at getting the TD?
  22. I think this is our fundamental disconnect BC. This is why we disagree. You think that because TT can and should recognize to call a TO there, it somehow absolves the coaches of some blame. I disagree. Rather than it being 50% of TT and 50% Rex/Roman, it is in fact 100% on both. Both failed to recognize to call a TO there, and it was a fundamental failure on both of their accounts. I don't view it as, "giving TT a pass." I just don't. If a coach and player share responibilites and both screw up, it doesn't absolve one because the other screwed up. Combined with the fact that as HC, you are the captain and your men reflect on you, I 100% call that bad coaching. You wanna say both screwed up and bombed, fine. But you can't have it both ways.
  23. Dude are you seriously telling me the coach gets a clock management pass because the QB didn't call TO?
