  1. We used to have a lot of fun playing that one. Another classic from Albert Collins (one of three songs we used to let our bass player sing): "Brick baby, that's what I'm gonna throw upside your head." All tongue-in-cheek really. His wife, Gwen, helped write many of his songs (though not that one, but she did write the classic "Master Charge") and was very active in encouraging him. Actually, thinking about Albert brings up a great album with him Johnny Copeland and Robert Cray called Showdown.
  2. You're just jealous because gomper is taking the "anti-Brad" spotlight away from you....
  3. What happened to the newspaper he was reading while on the phone, shaving and eating breakfast...?
  4. There are plenty of good "living" artists, I gave a few examples (Buddy Guy, Otis Rush, Lonnie Mack, Chris Duarte, Tinsley Ellis). On the acoustic blues side, you can add Robert Jr. Lockwood ("son" of Robert Johnson), Keb Mo', Taj Mahal, John Hammond Jr., Paul Rishell and Annie Raines, and someone I really like who is of the newer generation is Alvin Youngblood Hart. Lots of stuff...I was just working top-of-mind, and when going from SRV as an introduction, you tend to work backwards from there...
  5. What's really fun is the stuff he did with Muddy. Get Muddy Waters' Hard Again. Great album. Some of the other more modern kinds of folk in the SRV vein, which you may or may not like are Chris Duarte and Tinsley Ellis. Older generation folks that served as influences to SRV that I didn't previously mention would include Albert Collins, Johnny Copeland, T-Bone Walker and Freddie King.
  6. Nahhh, Fez will rip a copy of the 320x200 sized version he downloaded off teh Intarweb [sic]. He's getting me the Blu-Ray version however.
  7. It's funny you mention the Moody's as they started out as a Kinks-esque kind of English R&B. The difference between Go Now (their first album) and Days of Future Passed is staggering.
  8. Ignore him, he's Tom Donahoe's lap dog.
  9. Maybe your son wouldn't be so insecure if you were more supportive of him, Mrs. Riter.
  10. You just gave me a mental image. A group of penguins standing around. Penguin 1 (Bob): Hey look guys, there are some dogs wandering lost over there. I wonder who they belong to? They look kinda hungry, maybe they'll want some fish. <whistles>Come here boy. Penguin 2 (Harvey): Bob, I really don't think that's a good idea. Bob: Nonsense Harvey, look they're pets, they still have their tags. [to dogs] Come on, I have some nice fish for you. See look, they're coming right over. Harvey: I'm getting out of here. Bob: There you go....nice doggy, eat the fish...hey, you're getting a little close there Fido, you almost nipped my AAAAAAAUUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHH!
  11. But he's always diverting course to save people from burning buildings and foiling bank robberies. Even though he can fly at nearly the speed of light it still takes forever to get anywhere....
  12. I'd start with compilation albums from the labels. Helps you figure out what type(s) of blues you like best (yes, there's more than one...really...Chicago (which has West Side and South Side sub-divisions), Delta, Austin, West Coast, etc etc). Alligator Records has some nice sets, and they are one of the "big names" in the field. House Of Blues Records has also put out some nice compilations. Then, if you have an idea of what kinds of blues you like, start looking at the Blues Masters series for ideas on artists. If you're into the SRV thing, you'll probably like Buddy Guy, Otis Rush, Albert King, Lonnie Mack, Luther Allison for starters...
  13. Your reply was not there when I started mine. I was looking up some stuff in the middle of replying...bastard.
  14. What about Shaft?
  15. I look forward to it! Thanks in advance, Fez! I guess maybe I'll have to get you something too...
  16. Your face has been awfully ruddy lately...
  17. Care to throw up in your mouth a bit? Have a read.
  18. Next time don't sit in the driveway in a rocking chair holding a gun. I recommend stojan try the opposite. We went to a neat part of Lockport last night (an area where most folks are sitting in their driveways and a lot of the houses are done up nice...one guy and his friends dress up as KISS and "air play" to kiss songs), but alas we got there a little late. Many of the houses were dark already so we ended up going around the block. Didn't end up with the haul that we've ended up with in the past from that area, but it was fun anyway.
  19. Stojan: Part kid-who-has-some-growing-up-to-do, part grumpy-old-man. Do you shake your fist angrily at the "damn kids" who run across your yard? And you're the last person I expected to hear complain about the WNY weather...
  20. No, it's "I'm not talkin' 'bout melanin."
  21. Hey, I'm happy for you, really. If you can derive joy from the Bills losing, all the more for you. And now you are covered for the end of the season for three different possible outcomes, so that if we go 5-11, 6-10, or 7-9 you can be all excited and joyful again. Good for you. I can't imagine how miserable you might have been had the Bills won.
  22. As good as you've been, there are still two who are better.
