I just read somewhere that some city is cutting back on the hours of their suicide prevention hotline. Can you imagine the message on the machine? Maybe they should have an "automated assistant" for those hours: "If you are currently ready to commit suicide, press one. If you are only considering it, please call us between the hours of 8 am and 8 pm." <BEEP> "If you are attempting to commit suicide by hanging yourself, press one. Drug overdose, press two. How disappointing. That punk NG hits 5000 posts and his thread get 3 times as many responses in half the time as your 15,000th. Don't take it personally man...I know how sensitive you are about what the people on the message board think of you, and I just wanna say that you shouldn't equate the volume of responses to your popularity...really....though it would probably do you better if you stopped challenging everyone to spearing contests. Just a suggestion....

I took my then around 12ish brother-in-law to Bills Training Camp in Fredonia one year. He had a Bills hat he was trying to get all the players to sign. Out rides Kelly in his cart with his handler, and he gets swarmed. I remember him at least one time saying "I recognize you" (likely as a kid who did as you said above about getting signatures to sell). My B-I-L hands Kelly the hat, which he signs. Then he turns his back to Kelly, with the hopes that he'd sign the "JC Penney Special" #12 "jersey" that he had on (you know the kind, the < $20 jersey style shirts). As the handler is saying "no jersies," Kelly leans over and signs it. And I would bet that players who have both good and bad stories about them could be generally characterized as "good" at "official" functions (signings, meet the player events, etc) and "bad" in the general public. I remember hearing Flutie on the radio with Brother Wease, and he had just that weekend gone to Darien Lake to have a fun time with his family. Of course people recognize him and surround him, and obviously with no one there to control the situation there's a no-win scenario for him. I mean, he could either give up his family time and stand in the middle of the park signing for everyone who came to Darien Lake that day, or he could look like a jerk by saying "no, I'm not signing autographs for anyone today," or simply shrugging the fans off.

The girls saw a good sized one in our back yard just a couple of days ago, about 14-16 inches wide. We've seen bigger out this way, but this was a decent sized one. No soup for us though...

A little logic lesson: If "A" then "B" does not logically equate to If "not A" then "not B." As an example, people say that "If you masturbate you will go blind." Does that mean that if you don't masturbate you won't go blind? Your quote of John 3:16 supports what I said before: believe and you are in. It doesn't say "don't believe and you won't get in." As I said above, the quotes support what I said. Where is the word only in there? Not in any of the four versions I read before giving up. The phrase relates to the fact that salvation through faith is God's doing, not man's. You're right in correcting my mis-spoken words about the New Covenant being made to all, Jew and Gentile. I still say, and the Roman Catholic Church in Vatican II concurred, that while the only way to God is through Jesus, and God's grace came to all of us through the death of Jesus, it isn't necessarily so that only Christians are saved, or, more succinctly, only people who are Christians at the time of their death are saved. Chew on the semantics there a bit before responding...it's a long sentence . Read up on Romans 2:11-16. In Matthew 25 Jesus himself says that on judgement day that people will not be sorted by faith, but by deed. Call them 'implicit believers' or 'anonymous Christians,' but there are those who have led a good life who called God by another name You may be content with the notion that Ghandi, for example, is burning in perdition, but I am not. In the end we may agree to disagree on this, but I appreciate the chance to debate with you. If this side-chatter annoys others we can talk further through PM's, but I certainly invite the opportunity to share in fair debate. It is yet another way that us Kool-Aid drinkers can learn how to come closer to our God.
