  1. Dude was a moron for saying what he said about Brady's daughter. You do have to say though, for a remark that basically seemed to be largely ignored for a while, Brady was able to turn himself into the victim for yet another time. Sure, he was wronged. But some people just decide to not dignify it. And he could have probably talked to management at the station and gotten the guy in hot water without the grandstand. Instead he's gotta play the snowflake game and flail around on the ground like a soccer player. It almost plays like it was staged.
  2. This has to be one of the better observations I've seen. One thing that pops to my mind, which might explain him wanting out quickly, was that he wants to start his next career ASAP. Maybe he's got some ins to become an ass't coach in college or the pros, and just wanted to move on. I can imagine that it was a very innocent situation - the team gave Wood the time to settle his feelings about his health/career, he assumed because the team said nothing that it was merely a couple signatures and a goodbye presser. Then when they started talking about "business" at a function that should have mostly been about the closing of a chapter of a loyal player, that made everything different.
  3. At this point, it's tough to give them a lot of grief. They were green when they hired Rex and have been advised by everyone's favorite salesman. The fact that they are taking a personal approach to this situation gives me hope that they see the discord within Football Operations. My guess is that they'd prefer not to have to eat a bunch of money in doing a complete reset of the organization. The problem with that mindset is that the parity in the NFL can still get this team to 7-9 or maybe even 8-8. Sure, that's not the playoffs, but it's spinnable ("They had a winning record over the final 14 games ..."). I think Roman saw a lack of progress with TT in camp and knew their days were numbered. He tried to plaster over the problems by simplifying. It might get ugly under Anthony Lynn, but hopefully this "get it into the playmakers' hands" approach will give ownership a clear path forward into 2017, and likely one which involved starting over in drafting a new QB and instituting a new leadership structure within the organization.
  4. The theory does hold some water. The assumption would be that the Pegulas were meeting with players (potentially behind Rex's back) in order to get the pulse on Roman. But another interpretation could be that they were starting to gather info on the players' observations about Rex himself. Given his salary and stature within the organization, Roman would be the logical guy to take over the remainder of the season. I'm sure Rex is smart enough to execute that kind of move if Terry and Kim gave him the latitude to do it. It also helps him that they've invested so much money into him at this point. They must begin to look at this season as a salvage operation, at the very best. Firing Rex would create the most turmoil, since all of the assistants on the defensive side are his guys. It's tough to tell how they would react. Firing Roman removes a guy with clout, but also a guy who was mostly a lone wolf within the operation. You can excise him like an appendix and the long-term effects on the remainder of the body won't change. But the Pegulas at this point have to hope they took out the right organ.
  5. The NFL season is extremely short, and there is very little opportunity to get a young QB the reps he needs to develop. The NFL has long needed a second league. They've benefited from the NCAA for a long time, where some development occurs. But as colleges learned that they need a more reproducible offensive plan, they've tailored their playbooks to the type of QB which doesn't suit the pros. If we don't see a development league within the next decade, it's tough to imagine how pro offenses will adapt.
  6. If they say Brandon has no part in Football Ops, and then he's in the room making personnel decisions on cut day, that's a big deal. One thing you hoped the Pegulas were going to bring to the table was more transparency and credibility. The later Ralph years were ominous and dark, and you just had no idea what exactly was going on. Then they go and hire a GM that has credibility outside the organization, and then a coach who has had _some_ success. You think it's going to be different. But then you get Brandon back in the room. Seriously, this has to be a problem. Why? Because they went _way_ out of their way to make sure everyone knew a year or so ago that he was not in Football Ops anymore. They knew he was tainted with the fan base, whether for good reason or not. So they made sure to do that - again, that's all a PR type move too. It would not surprise me if Rex talked about Russ in the cut meeting intentionally. After how his term ended with the Jets, I can't imagine he's happy about a suit who knows very little about football giving advice on how his roster is put together. And he's gotta know that the fans would not be happy about it.
  7. Some people seem to forget Robey, Rambo, Williams, and Butler jumping all of those shallow quick reads in the first half and beating the crap out of the WR's (which eventually sent Hilton to the showers). And the 3rd Quarter was eaten up by the Colts drive, which was exactly what Rex wanted to do. They were going much more traditional in their pass rush and playing zone to keep things in front of them.
  8. You're welcome. To me, the NFL is missing out on a much bigger cash cow if they were to form a media company to stream their own games. The NFL is way behind most sports in terms of an online presence. I often wonder if the Krafts' involvement in these affairs plays a part in it. They seem like a family that's rooted in the antiquated.
  9. Yes, it was free preview weekend. Week 2 will not work for you, but it's looking like it will be the nationally televised game. Unless you're in a market of another team playing (or perhaps a rival of one of those teams), you should be able to see it. Agree, that doesn't sound right to me. Live games are streamed via DirecTV's Sunday Ticket app, the NFL negotiated that into the TV deal.
  10. Not only is he that, but he's from the Jerry Sullivan "Write something to piss off somebody so they'll read me" camp.
  11. Pretty sure this is the way Goodell wanted it. He looks like he tried his damnedest to punish New England while knowing it was too off-the-wall to ever come across as legit in a court of law.
  12. It's best left as a learning experience for Whaley. He hasn't done anything that warrants firing, but he sure should learn how to disseminate information to the appropriate people so that they aren't taken for a loop and left compromised (see: M&T Bank's sponsorship).
  13. Graham, Wawrow, Dunne, Capacchio, and Maiorana. Capacchio is the only one in this group that comes across as too much of a fan, but I think he does his best to put that to the side. The others are pretty independent and harsh when necessary. Though Dunne is so new it's unclear whether he will take the hard line at times, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt at this point. Sullivan serves his purpose. This team needs critics, but it can get repetitious.
  14. May or may not have happened in this case, but sure makes McCloughan look like a dirty dog with a high likelihood of past indiscretions.
  15. The release was handled in a hasty fashion for whatever reason. Maybe Whaley was afraid that someone with influence (Brandon?) might talk the Pegulas out of the decision. There's no good reason for the public to know these inner workings. It was an unpopular-but-necessary decision. Whaley is taking the flak for it, and probably the words from FJ himself hurt the most. But he's in an executive position, and he executed a decision. Pegula can fire him if it doesn't like that. Let's just say that two years ago, this kind of move doesn't happen with Brandon the Marketer holding office.
  16. The talent deficit went way beyond the quarterback position, no matter how much you think (or don't think) EJ Manuel will develop into the QB of the future. Everyone slapped a division crown on these guys after one win. Cool your jets (no pun intended). This will take at least another draft to rebuild. If they are able to right this ship in 2013, so be it. Just hope that Whaley can continue to do well in the draft.
  17. To provide a bit of perspective, this spring, EJ Manuel said that the Bills playbook was much simpler than the one at Florida State. I wouldn't say that quote departs from the subject of this thread...
  18. There's a flu that was passed around Giants Stadium this weekend. It causes laryngitis and crappy football.
  19. Let them. They will be basically pissing away the final years of Peyton Manning's career for the chance at a guy who will probably be great, but is still no stone cold lock to be a HOFer. The Karma Gods will come back around for not tanking Cam Newton's career.
  20. The fact a Giant fan came up with it kinda puts it in perspective. Here's one for your friend: The Mississippi Mistake.
  21. Too bad we can't put McKelvin's legs on McGee, would be nice to have a corner on his side that could bat a ball down on occasion.
  22. Sunday Ticket to the rescue again in Delaware. Would be stuck with the late Houston/Balto game on CBS.
