  1. Do two complaints cancel each other by virtue of the double negative? two complaints = one hoorah ? I am tired of the off season already.
  2. What makes you think I was talking about you.
  3. I am just a strummer but - it can be a lot more than acoustic vs electric guitar, it can be lousy acoustic and great electric (and amp). The reverse is true. I have a decent acoustic and a terrible electric. The electric is a keeper though, a VERY early 60's Gretsch hollow body. woo. Looks great.
  4. Last Monday when I got to work, I was called in to see my supervisor. Turns out that to ring in the new year, corporate decided to shed a few pounds. So my department of eight is now a department of two, and I am no longer employed. I am in no immediate need, which means I am blessed. But, for the first time in almost 27 years with the same company, I got up in the morning on a work day and had no place to go. It was not a real surprise. We knew that the day would come when the revenues generated by our group would not justify keeping us. Business is cold and it was a business decision - good for the stockholders anyway. My wife has been very supportive, but I am in the way since she runs a home daycare. Luckily my son lives near us and he set up a workstation for me so that I can update (well, actually create) my resume, search for jobs, register for unemployment, and all the other things you have to do when you get "released". Luckily again, my wife was able to put me on her insurance beginning the day my current policy expires - no transition pains. Also, I will get 20 weeks severance and 4 weeks vacation, so I really am "on salary" until mid-June. So, I get up every day, get ready for work, and go to my office at my son's house instead of work. I am starting to adjust to the new rules, but it is more than a little scary. Tomorrow I start sending out resumes. If the environment is right, there is a LOT I can do. If the environment is wrong there is a lot I can no longer do. No jobs with fire drills. No "Devil Wears Prada" scenarios. I do not tolerate stupidity real well anymore. But, like I said, if the terms are right I have a LOT to offer, so I will play my hand as it has been dealt. That has worked for over five decades so it must be a good way to manage the cards. Just sharing with you - do not feel sorry for me. I am one of the luckiest bastids ever born. I expect good to come of this, so I will get what I deserve. "You load sixteen tons, and what do you get? Another day older and deeper in debt. Saint Peter, don't you call me, 'cause I can't go; I owe my soul to the company store... " Merle Travis
  5. Probably the same morons buying time on phone cards at a higher rate than at the phone company's web site. Maybe the same ones that think they got a great deal on a CD for $0.99 and then pay $15 for shipping and handling. I realize in this case it is a supply/demand thang, but same morons. Gifs Moider!
  6. Rush Limbaugh?!
  7. Like you would know, hyuck, hyuck! Pink Floyd Ummagumma 1969 Grantchester Meadows Icy wind of night, be gone This is not your domain in the sky a bird was heard to cry Misty morning whisperings and gentle stirring sounds belied a deathly silence that lay all around Hear the lark and harken to the barking of the dog-fox gone to ground See the splashing of the King-fisher flashing to the water And a river of green is sliding unseen beneath the trees laughing as it passes through the endless summer making for the sea In the lazy water meadow I lay me down All around me, golden sunflakes settle on the ground basking in the sunshine of a bygone afternoon bringing sounds of yesterday in to my city room Hear the lark and harken to the barking of the dog-fox gone to ground See the splashing of the King-fisher flashing to the water And a river of green is sliding unseen beneath the trees laughing as it passes through the endless summer making for the sea
  8. My Dad was too soon gone too. Hang in there TopCat. His memory and honor will live on with you.
  9. You did not put it in your profile, but an unnamed Marsupial told me. SO HAPPY FRIGGIN BIRTHDAY anyway. In fact have a very MERRY un-birthday!
  10. I guess that will teach me to just listen to the game! Thanks for the explanation. I did notice in one Fox game that they kept showing a fan who seemed to be having lots of conversation with someone, and was wearing a FOX hat!
  11. All of this hype is just a by-product of the off season.
  12. If I was a Colts fan when they were in Baltimore, it would be next to impossible for me to "embrace" the Ravens, especially since they had formerly been the Browns, but I would still HATE Irsay's Colts. This is a hard one to really get a good reading on isn't it? As a Baltimore Colts fan, having NFL championship team records residing in Indianapolis would be impossible for me to accept. Tombstone, I do not see it as revisionist history. I said nothing that was not factual. Yes it is true that the city had been jerking the team around. The two biggest cesspool stadiums in the NFL at the time were Buffalo and Baltimore, no argument. Buffalo luckily got Rich Stadium, and Baltimore got cloak and daggered. I think (but of course I do not know) that once the city realized Irsay was really leaving, their first step was to try and take the team away from him, and I believe the second step would have been a new stadium. It is all speculation now. Baltimore city officials waited too long to get their sh*t together and paid for it!
  13. Is that fair or balanced? Are they showing it because it is Martin Luther King Day? I will always love Doug Williams, because in his autobiography Quarterblack, he calls Jay Shroeder an "unmitigated ass-hole".
  14. A Kicker or Dead.
  15. I agree that Monk is due. I think Reed was a better receiver than Irvin, but Irvin is a higher profile personality and has League and Super Bowl MVP titles. The article does not say Reed must wait, as much as he it saying that he will probably be a next year pick based on HOF "pecking order".
  16. You might want to consider the T shirt chick from New Orleans instead. At least she will be in a good mood and probably more agreeable. She certainly has exhibited (and advertised) a proclivity for the activity you are suggesting. I'm sorry. What are you trying to say?
  17. I think that Hell could be described as a 24/7 conversation between John Madden and Phil Simms. I did not realize that Simms was so incredibly BAD! He made my ears hurt. I agree that Aikman is very good.
  18. I do not care if it was 50 years ago. If I was a Colts fan back then, I would have a Ravens fan yesterday. I can feel the pain of Baltimore, Cleveland, and Houston. I am not sure the fans cared when the Cards went to Arizona and the Rams left L.A. If the Irsays had not fled under cover of a Saturday night, the city of Baltimore would have filed whatever it is you file, to freeze the Colts' assets (eminent domain) on Monday morning, and the Irsays might not have been allowed to move to Indianapolis. Modell bites. HOF my ass!
  19. There is no way the Indianapolis Colts should beat the Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore. One sign said something like "Irsay family, isn't it time for you to leave?" I know in the end it is business, but when they fled Baltimore it was a like a covert CIA operation! Imagine waking up Monday morning, and finding out the Bills and all their stuff left town in the darkness of night in Mayflower vans! I really like Peyton Manning and Tony Dungy and a few others on Indy, but... It just ain't right!
  20. RB characteristics only, he reminds me of Tinker Bell and Ronnie the Drop. As you said a player with exceptional talent but only average drive. I do not pay much attention to his rag sheet headlines. I would rather he avoid bad press, but I thought he was a punk the first time he opened his mouth, so I am not surprised. I could tolerate it better if he performed on the field like someone worth remembering. There was a time when Eric Moulds was almost cut for his less than stellar performance, combined with bad press. Is there a chance Willis can turn the corner and play football, or one day will he be a trivia question no that one gets?
  21. So, you read it for it's aesthetic value and journalistic content?
  22. Sorry, Flanders, I am not THAT good!
  23. One more quickie: Who were the Bud Lite offensive and defensive linemen of the year in 1986?
  24. Another easy one, what number did Cornelius Bennett wear his first year? (I am assuming online searches disqualify answers)
  25. From today's "Buzz" - what is wrong with this factoid? (easy one) FACT OF THE DAY: January 12, 1992 -- NT Jeff Wright deflected a third-quarter John Elway pass that LB Carlton intercepted and returned 11 yards for Buffalo's only touchdown, as the Bills defeated the Denver Broncos 10-7 in the AFC Championship Game at Rich Stadium to advance to Super Bowl XXVI.
