If the season ended today ... Bills miss the playoffs
zonabb replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Let's go with the "when" instead. WHEN they lose in Dallas, NY, and SD, they have a minimum of 6 loses, which puts them at 10-6 at best. That's assuming they win everything else, which is a tough assumption because the NE is a tough road game and a place the Bills struggle in. The Titans are no cake walk here either. And the 3 losses I am counted as guaranteed are simple. After getting spanked yesterday at home, with a 5-2 record and tons of confidence, going to NY and winning won't happen. Pyschologically, they're beated. Take the Jets that week for sure. The SD game is a certain loss. The Bills are 6-12-1 @ SD. That includes 4 in a row. It's a west coast travel issue. They're 5-12 at the Raiders. 2-3 @ 49ers and 3-5 at Seattle. These don;t account for records, which team was "better", who was the favorite, etc. It's just straight up. So the Chargers aren't a bad team, they ran with the Packers yesterday at home and the Bills aren't the Packers. And they lose this week in Dallas because they're emotionally shot. It's a road game, it's an easy roll over game for them. I hope they prove me wrong and show some mettle but I doubt it. Young teams struggle to learn to get up off the mat and come out the next week and travel and win. They need 2 out of 5 road wins plus the 3 homes games to get to 10 wins. That's a tall order with the 6 of the 8 teams with .500 or better records. I think they're headed in the right direction but they're not good enough and experienced enough to get through the second half of this schedule with more than a 4-4 record IMO. I don't let emotion cloud the reality of the situation. -
Not sure how anyone can talk themselves into the playoffs other than emotionally attachment. They got pounded at home today vs the jets and have a road game against them to come. That's one loss. They barely beat the pats and the pats have won 20 in a row at home in the regular season so that's another road loss. The team doesn't travel west well an has to go to san Diego, that's a loss. And the cowboys game is a loss next week, book it. Assuming they win the rest, that's 9-7. And on the outside looking in. Someone make a legit argument they have a shot in ny, ne, sd or Dallas.

No playoffs. I'lll put $1000 on it right now. They're 1-2 on the road and have road games at the jets (loss), pats (loss), Dallas (loss), and San Diego (loss they suck on west coast trips). That's 7 loss with today's. 9-7, Assuming they win the rest, doesn't get in. call me crazy but remember, you heard it here! -

Outcoached today. Offense is offensive. Defense is defenseless. How many slants will they give up? How many rushed up the middle for no yards will result in an adjustment? -
Scott Norwood to be in attendance on Sunday
zonabb replied to SHOUTBOX MONSTER!'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As a fan, we live with the bad as well as the good and we should stand an honor the guy's CAREER and realize he won more games than he lost. This team had 3 more chances to vindicate that kick and failed and we still love Kelly, Bruce, Andre and Thurman and they are as responsible for 4 straight losses as Norwood. Be a true Buffalonian and cheer. It's what separates us from Philly fans!! -
Coach Fired For Profanity In Locker Room
zonabb replied to AReed Deep For 7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I grew up playing hockey and by the time I was a senior, I was pretty disgusted with sports mainly due to overbearing, ignorant coaches and parents who are living pathetically and vicariously through teenage athletes. I'm happy to have a daughter and one with no interest in sports because I would have had a hard time dealing with youth sports. It's about the kids having fun. If you think you're impacting kids lives the hour or so a day you have them for a season you're kidding yourself. 99% of athletes play sports for the friendships and the games. Winning matters sure but it's not everything and if they think that kids are playing for coaches, they're missing the point. Kids go to school all day, they have homework and school obligations and pressures and sports... believe it or not... is a release for them. It's a time to have fun with their friends after school and do something they enjoy. I'm sorry but I hate high school coach guy. You know, the guy who'se entire pathetic life is about high school sports. He wants and needs his identity to be "coach" often wearing his schools colors and clothes all the time. When I see a 30- or 4-something guy in public running pants and and shirt/jacket/hoodie with the high school logo on it, I laugh. That's what you worked for your whole life and thats the image you want to portray, as the coach of some high school sports team? How pathetic. I'm not dimishing the sport or the athlete, I'm saying the coach hasn't considered that its not as important to the kids as it is to him. What's worse is, most local high school coaches are also teachers and only got into teaching as an avenue to coach and put the coaching ahead of the teaching. I have a lot of friends and family who teach and these coaches talk sports all day and its all they care about and they never talk about teaching, the importance of impacting the lives of students or getting having their kids excel in the classroom. Maybe if they put a scoreboard in the classroom and made academics more openly competitive, they'd care. We should get away from letting teachers coach. My hatred of these losers was only made worse after college (when I walked off after walking onto my college hockey team for similar reasons) when I went to work for a small local newspaper and had to cover local sports. I met one great coach who breaks the stereotype and was likely influential in the lives of his players but the rest were the stereotrypical coach. And the sample size is probably 8 schools and many of their coaches. There is a local girls basketball coach that IMO(as well as other coaches, athletes, parents, etc) has no business whatsoever coaching teenage girls due to his mistreatment of them. Anyone who has ever stood outside his lockerroom at halftime when they are losing will hear a lot of what you hear in this audio. OK, end of rant. You can tell I hate what high school sports has become and the coaches who act like this jagoff. -
Yeah! Give Gailey that QB and offense and a much better defense and I'd take it any day.

Are we suddenly going to find passrushers? 4 sacks in 6 games isn't what makes playoffs teams.
-
Stop listening. Turn on 97 and be done with it. Schopp is a Bills hater and Sabres lover (here's my prediciton on his beloved Sabres... no Stanley Cup with Miller... he's overrated and incapable). And Bullfrog knows he's incapaable of matching wits with Schopp so he just agrees all the time. It's a joke of a radio station. Add in the drunks who call in and it's worthless.

Everyone can make excuses all they want. The bottomline is, this defense, although improved drom last year, still it really, really bad. No sacks today. And Manning was rarely pressured, which exposed a very average secondary. They get lit up week after week, but this week we ran into a decent decent defense thta exposed Fitz's noodle arm and inaccuracy. He lost the game today. Two indenticle interceptions on two well underthrown balls to SJ off his back foot. Throw the stupid loss of yards and taking them out of field goal range in the first half and it doesn't take a Harvard man to see where the 3 point deficit comes from. Let's stop drinking the kool-aid a little and recognize the major flaws this team has... no pass rush and a pop-gun offense that can be stopped with a decent pass rush and good DBs (which the teams we've beat lack). I bet, right now, this team drafts a DB or DE with their first pick next year, the need is so glaring.
-
Really? Fitz threw two pathetic deep balls to Johnson that gave the WR no chance, let me repeat NO CHANCE, to even make a play to stop an interception. Fitz, with those two picks, and the stupid plays taking them out of FG range in the first half singlehandedly lost the game. By that I mean, if the defense gives up what it did, those two turnovers and one lost field goal attempt should have resulted in more than the 3 points thet lost by. Also, the defense is still a joke. No pass rush exposes what are average DBs. How many sacks since week 1?
-
Two sh!!tty throws of his back foot cost them the game. For all his smarts, when will he realize he has to throw that route with some strength and lead the receiver

What is Chad Kelly (Jim's nephew) hinting at?
zonabb replied to Doc's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, the problem is (and the post your responding to is right), the media in reporting on ownership requirements and percentages, is generally illiterate. Majority as reported does not mean 51%, as most assume. It had meant 30% in the past, which is actually a term called plurality, which I wouldn't expect members of the media to know, I mean working in the written word doesn't require a firm grasp on the language by any stretch. Plurality is the term they mean, and in a case like this, would mean a group of individuals owning a team and the person with the largest share has the controlling share. It used to be 30%, with the controlling owner having 20% and his heirs having at least the other 10% to constitute the 30%. Then the NFL realized that this percentage was problematic for people like the Rooneys and the Wilsons and changed it to the controlling owner having to have only 10% and the remainder of his heirs at least 20%. The only thing that means for the Bills I guess, is that the controlling owner only need have 30% of the team, the other 70% can be a group of investors/owners. That still doesn't seem to work for Kelly, for example, who is certainly lacking the 30% of the roughly $800 or so sale price. -
It's the reason sports media sucks. They play to the largest audience for ads and moneyary purposes rather than playing to sports, competition and outcomes. It's why I hate and have always hated Tiger Woods. That guy can finish 49th and get the top 5 of 5 minutes and 10 seconds of airtime after a tourney. Guy had a headline yesterday for hiring a new caddy. Media is a joke.

Nix has failed with respect to the OL. Bell has sucked since day one and nothing has or will change and at his point if nothing is done with this line by the opener, they'll be picking first fo sure. Fitz or any qb won't survive. -

Denver figured out our D pretty quick... Running is tough so pick on a weak secondary. front 7 might be the best unit but his team is weak just about everywhere else. -

OL is going to waste good games by the D this year and cost the team games they could win win with a functional OL. See some 10-6 type losses. -
WINNER!!!! Anyone who knows who Peter Grant is rocks!!! Good on ya!
-
Been complaiimg about the OLmfor hears and nothing changes then year. A LT who has injury issues and lacks experience and polish. A mess at RT no matter who is there. Levitre is average. Urbik is below aveage. Wood will be above average. Too little talent to be anything other than the teams biggest weakness again. I say again because they are one unit of five players which when considered in the context of an offense are tremendously important to offensive success and failure. OL = owned.

What's a "Buffalo News"? Is that one of those prehistoric methods of distributing information on a stone tablet or papyrus? Seriously, when is that means of information going to die? In the 24-hour newscycle, what's more useless at 7 a.m. than news printed 6 hours ago that happened 12-24 hours ago. Read one tomorrow's Buffalo News' front page stories right now at cnn.com.
