New England Patriots caught deflating game balls
Wayne Cubed replied to FireChan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Like I said earlier in the thread it brings into question Bradys sudden turn around after a very crappy start to the season. He was missing lots of throws and then all of a sudden he was throwing better. -

Does this now bring into question how Brady turned around his season? The Pats* were sitting at 2-2 and went to KC and got blown out. Brady was having trouble, lots of trouble, with his throws before and during the KC game. Did they deflate the balls a bit so he could throw better? As Brunell says it helped him throw 10 yards further. These are the questions it raises. -

I could see that being the narrative but in mind, it doesn't matter. The outcome of the game is not part of the equation. They still cheated. -

It still would have been more than 1 PSI out from the minimum if it's 11.5 -

I wonder if when they said it was 2 PSI out, if they meant measuring to the 12.5 PSI or the 11.5 PSI because the NFL dictates a range from 11.5 - 12.5 PSI. -

Yea that is another advantage. It's easier to grip the ball, easier to catch and easier to hold on to for runners. -

Hey, at least you can admit it. I don't actually think the punishment could or should be to vacate the win against the Colts. I think they would have won anyways. Which just makes them stupid for doing it. A fine definitely and possible loss of a draft pick. -

So basically, if the game was close are these fans that don't think it's a big deal still don't have a problem? But because it was a blow out and they didn't really need to cheat, fans are "pathetic whinning"? Do I have that correct? What about if it was the Bills playing, does it matter then? -
Who is really looking forward to the Super Bowl

Yup. Nothing would annoy me or make me cringe more than to see that stupid grin on Tom Brady's face as he hoist the Lombardi trophy up. Please no. -
So your argument originally was that the Bills current structure was not how winning teams do it. That is, the coach reports directly to the owner. I pointed out teams, winning teams, that in fact have that organizational structure. Now, you are arguing about player personnel and which coaches have control of that. That was never my counter point to your argument and further the Bills structure is not set up that way. Rex is not in control of player personnel, so I'm not exactly sure what your point is. You can keep citing all these articles about how the teams are set up, I know how they are. You just are regurgitating what I already know, which is why I posted the original article because you didn't seem to know how teams structures were set up and which teams were set up certain ways. The Bills structure is not an anomaly as much as you originally wanted it to be. Like I said before, some teams are set up some ways, HC reports directly to the owner, and some are set up other ways, HC reports to GM. Both of those structures work. The whole point of this thread has been that you don't think Whaley is doing a good job. More specifically you don't think he's done a good job offense. More specific within that, you don't think he's done a good job drafting OL. So you think the Bills need a footbal czar or to get someone in Buffalo who can identify offensive talent. Whaley has been on the Bills staff and helped identify a lot of offensive talent. Has he gotten every single thing right? No of course not, no GM is perfect and you can't have pro-bowl talent at every position no matter how easy you may think it is to find it. Bring back the dinosaur Bill Pollian an AJ Smith is going to do what exactly? Are they known for drafting or finding amazing OL talent? Shall we talk about all their missed picks on offense? Since 2003 when AJ Smith took over as GM in San Diego until he was fired in 2012 Smith drafted 14 OL. Two of those were exceptional pro bowl talent players, McNeil and Hardwick. Thats it. He did draft Vasquez as well, but he didn't go to the pro bowl until he was with Denver, so can't really give him credit a he didn't keep him on the team. Some say he was fired because of his inability to protect Phillip Rivers with a good OL.

Was more or less a comment on some posters here who think its stupid. What about that makes it a conspiracy. Punishment would have always come in the offeseason. Either a fine or possible draft picks. -

Balls. As in multiple. It wasn't just one ball or this would be a non story. Mutiple Patriots balls were under inflated. And yes it looks like cheating, notice how there isn't a mention of Indys balls being under inflated. Did it help them win the game? Probably not, but that's doesn't mean it isn't cheating and they shouldn't fined. Just because they didn't need it, doesn't make it ok. -

I'm wondering, since the Pats supply all the balls for the game, if the deflated balls were found with the Pats ball boy or Indys ball boy? -

The NFL admits that 1 or 2 balls are taken out each game because of this. So they must have a way of measuring. The conflicting part of the Patriots* balls are that several were found to be under. And the NFL gives some leeway in terms of pressure saying the pressure needs to be between 12.5 and 13.5 PSI, which they measure before the game. Sure, how they are measured could be faulty but it was about the same temperature in Seattle and no mention of ball problems there. Plus, I would hardly call 50 degrees "cold" in terms of NFL games. I'd also add, if the refs noticed by feel that they were deflauted, they must have been fairly low on pressure. -

The "several" is what is odd to me. I'm sure 1 or 2 come out a game and that's normal. Several makes it seem like a lot which is probably what jump started the investigation. -

Why the story has legs? The story has legs because the NFL is IN FACT investigating it. Brady can call it hogwash all he wants but why would the NFL investigate it then Tom? I don't hear anything out of Seattle about them deflating their game balls, so I'm not really sure I get the "haters gonna hate" comment. And apparently the officials removed several balls from the came. 1 or 2 being deflated, ok that probably happens often. But several, that raises eyebrows hence the investigation. -
To the your entire point (in bold) you are wrong. The 2 teams in the SB, both coaches report directly to the owner. The Seahawks, Patriots*, Cowboys, Steelers, Chiefs and Eagles are all previous playoff teams. The Pats*, Seahawks and Steelers are pretty regular teams in the playoffs. Some teams do it one way, which works. Others do it another way, which also works. No one way has proven more effective.

Oh he had a horrible game. And he needed a botched onside kick and some terrible defense by GB to get to overtime. Also he needed a coin flip to get the ball first. But that last drive was very very nice by Russell Wilson. Oh and I forgot the 2 pt conversion... Geez -

The whole second half coaching was odd IMO. Playing not to lose. The Offense completely stepped off the gas pedal.
