I have a feeling that a serious d-lineman talent is going to fall to us in the 2nd.

The bills would have likely taken Gabbert

I love it. We pick Darius and Ralph is still the bad guy. -

Thank you Wanstache. A genuine D-lineman in round 1. It's been a while. -
nfl channel seems to think Peterson for the Bills

You clearly have never built a great team in any capacity before. You keep adding talent and weeding out the weak at all times. We all agree on this. Your stuck in short term projections of these players and use the failure at drafting and free agency of the Raiders organization as the premise to not take a shutdown corner. The foundation of how I assemble teams is based on this one question that I ask myself. I create a mental image of my specific expectations for the manpower. Will this man add something to a GREAT team. I know that a man cannot replace 2 or more people. In my mind I already have a great team. Is this guy going to make a great team better. Your perspective is limited to, how will this one player make a bad team better. If you can't recognize the fundamental difference in this critical perspective on team building and long term projections then I suggest that you reflect on this. You are using a flawed set of variables to derive your conclusions. We have all witnessed the offseason moves of the Raiders, using that track record of wasting picks, money, and getting the wrong QB a few years ago is a poor argument against Asomugha. Put him on any of the playoff teams and then argue that he would not make them better. -
I think that he is another KW, if they were lined up together I would expect a lot of running plays coming their way.

For Those Of You Who Don't Want QB In 1st or 2nd
RealityCheck replied to garchat80's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So are you saying that if we grab a QB @3 that we now have a franchise QB because we picked him @3, or is there a particular guy that you would bet your job on. If they chose the wrong guy then I say Nix and Gailey are fired in a few years, as they should be. -
I get it. Some of you think the draft should be the search for short term solutions. If Darius is gone, and we pick AJ Green then what? No Super Bowl this year? I already figured that out. You guys rarely ever consider that you have that player for at least the duration of there rookie contract. It will take more than this offseason to adequately address all the team needs. The question is why does the defense have to be FIXED first at the cost of getting elite talent at another position if we all agree that the team lacks elite talent EVERYWHERE and a Championship is a tad unlikely this season.

You had me right up until you said in no uncertain terms that Woodson would not have made the difference in winning a Super Bowl in the early 90's. To say that Rod Woodson would not have made ANY difference is absurd. I am not claiming that we would have won a SB with him, but to claim an absolute non-influence in the outcome is unreal to me. We've drafted the WRONG DBs in the first round the last few years, but if Revis was one of those guys, I think that you would change your tune. -
the Bills have no business trading up for anyone!

The entire roster is a hole. -
Talking about the draft is one thing right now. But I don't think my brain can handle projecting who will step up in training camp AND not get injured before September. All I think I know is that we don't have enough invested at any position. Anybody seen a baby?

First there was OJ now we have AJ

How ironic, watching him play made me constipated. -
As of last night, Bills looking at Blaine Gabbert
RealityCheck replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hope it works out like this. Newton is gone at #1, some team desperate for a QB thinks we want Gabbert bad, they trade up with the Broncos, Darius falls in our lap, I then toke up and say, Thank God!!!!!! Go Bills!!!!!!!!! -

We don't need a QB, we need the right QB. But that goes for any position. -

You are confusing taking a CB in the generic sense instead of taking the right CB. No position single handedly wins games, although it can be the reason you lose. -
Why Peterson is a waste of a pick
RealityCheck replied to Thisistheyear's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Although you make some valid points, and I believe in Building both the defense and offense from the ball out, the draft is not free agency. You aren't bidding on players that have a body of work at the NFL level. If you aren't sold on a front 7 guy or a QB @3, then why not get Peterson if you believe him to be a shut down corner. Let's rewind to Nate Clements' contract year before we let him walk. We lost 9 games that year by a very close margin. The Colts game as an example. We had zero offense that year. However, on defense we kept it very close in no small thanks to using Clements almost exclusively in man coverage on our opponents top receiver. Harrison was silent in that game and the Colts squeaked one out. If a big body is not there, I would love to get a player that we could assign to the other team's top receiver and take him out of the game. If you were to give it some thought, you would realize that he would free up the safety on his side of the field and allow you, if nec. to double cover 2 other receivers and still send a blitzer. It really would allow for more coverage and blitzing options. If you watched the Jets Pats game, Revis manned quite often while the rest of the secondary played zone and typically rushed no more than 4. Brady had all day, yet no one to throw to. That's because his vaunted TEs each had a safety over the top and another defender underneath. All I can say is if Darius is off the board, don't underestimate the impact a true shutdown corner will have if you believe that Peterson is such. -
He's still in my freezer if you want to meat him.

How do you keep your job? -
If Kaepernick is there in the 5th, I say take him. If not, then get a QB when free agency hits.
-
If Darius is off the board, this would be a great consolation prize.

Tell me if I got this right, our receivers are so good that you would pass on AJ Green? Is it that you don't think he is better than our current WOs or that you don't want a WO you are attached to getting traded or cut?
