  1. For the millionth time - the Bills were never seriously pursuing Shanny. Read JW's interview with Ralph from last winter. Ralph was like "Mike Shanahan? Never heard of him." Russ Brandon made a shrewd PR move to make it seem like they were going Big Game hunting. Meanwhile, Ralph was interested in finding a GM willing to work for a box of comfortable sweaters and a coach who'd take coordinator pay to get another shot at a head job.
  2. You're probably right but I actually thought the defense played bad enough after the bye to prove to me that THEY COULD pull off 0-16. When 506 yards doesn't get the job done, you have to worry.
  3. I don't understand how anyone can defend Whitner at this point. As a Bills fan, doesn't it gall you to see him chasing after open TEs like on Heap TD? What about taking bad angles in run support? How many first downs and TDs will you accept if he has one or two plays a game where he "wraps up" or makes good contact? For most fans the progression has been: (1) Screw you for calling him a reach national media! I trust our front office. To: (2) Okay, maybe he wasn't worth the #8 overall pick, but it's not his fault he was drafted too high. Cut him some slack. To: (3) He's worse than a converted Wide Receiver. I might have to reassess. His lack of production speaks for itself, but when you see the big plays he surrenders you realize it's actually much worse than that.
  4. Some teams actually put together good head coach/coordinator tandems. Instead, the Bills have a top-10 offensive coordinator as head coach and some reject pushed out as Dolphins INSIDE LBs coach as defensive coordinator.
  5. Glad our front office went out and got TO in a publicity stunt to slow the kid's development. He definitely makes up for the whiff on Hardy though, that's for sure.
  6. I can't believe how little attention Cordaro Howard's play has received on this board today. Probably should have waited at end of game to post htis.
  7. Let's hope we never see Cornell Green on the field again. Unless one of the dipsticks defending Whitner wishes to chime in on his behalf too.
  8. NEVER? No. But unless you're a jackass you recognize that veterans tend to be better able to recognize when it's time to go for a big return and when it's time to protect the football and go in for half.
  9. Maybe having a new rookie or second year player returning kick-offs every year isn't such a good idea.
  10. Back to reality with Whitner covering Todd Heap. Love people that think Whitner is "not bad" when we give up about 20 Tds to TEs every year.
  11. Yep. Watch the Ravens run on something like 17 of the next 22 snaps en route to 150 yards and 21 points. Thanks for "keeping us honest" by forcing a bunch of passes to start though.
  12. Carrington obviously sucks. The crazy thing is that McCargo is also in street clothes yet again. Why in the world do you draft DE when you've got the worst linebacking corps in the NFL?
  13. Tom Modrak epitomizes outsmarting people. He drafts tackles to play guard, centers to play guard, cornerbacks to play free safety, defensive ends to play inside linebacker, and on and on. It's always about where guys "project" in the NFL. Unfortunately he's about as good at forecasting as the weatherman. Baltimore drafts guys to play the same position and basically assumes that what you see is what you get. It's not a complicated
  14. Apparently you haven't been watching George Edwards' body of work? It was always going to be a stretch for this personnel to work in the 3-4 but we went and hired the one guy who absolutely, positively could not pull it off.
  15. Great point about Jauron being in the draft room for Maybin signing. I think he gets disproportionate blame for that pick, as Modrak was the one who preferred him to Orakpo, but we probably would have taken Cushing if Jauron had been canned at the end of 2008.
  16. Who else is ready to laugh hysterically as Chris Kelsay tries to cover Ray Rice in the flat and on wheel routes this Sunday? If you're going back to the 4-3, how do you keep this guy in the lineup as OLB? I'm guessing Littman/Overdorf weren't too thrilled about Kelsay getting benched a couple of weeks after that $24 M extension. So now we're left with a guy who couldn't cut it at the 3-4 OLB role being asked to do even more in terms of coverage and chasing down backs and TEs. How many plays on Sunday will be specifically designed to exploit Kelsay?
  17. Until Tom Modrak is gone this is a reasonable topic of discussion. Modrak didn't think Ngata could fit into Jauron's scheme because he was a space-eater not a penetrator. Um, NO. Ngata leads the league in tackles from NT position.
  18. The idea that we would line up 4 defensive linemen so Kelsay could have greater responsibility in space is probably the CRAZIEST thing I've ever read.
  19. The sad part is that Orakpo fell to us. No one expected him to be there at 11. And we still passed. It was almost like the radar locked on Maybin and couldn't change to the circumstances. I will never forgive Tom Modrak for this, as he wanted Cushing but felt Maybin was the best pure passrusher on the board. Here is the link with Modrak's comments. Note that Chris Brown reported a number of times how Orakpo "took plays off". This is classic Modrak - reduce significance of speed and athleticism in favor of how hard a player works. Screw Tom Modrak and all of the souless losers on this board who defend him. http://www.buffalobills.com/news/article-1/bills-take-pass-rusher-maybin/14658d98-47ca-4db6-9944-c260ae5e98e9
  20. Good post. One of the knocks on Wang was that he's either going to work out at LT or not make it in the NFL. That's why he fell to the 5th despite good college film.
  21. This is a recurring problem with Tom Modrak. He and his team rate players based on their specific skill sets and then "project" where those skills would best be used at the NFL level. Arthur Moats was clearly a perfect fit for OLB, yet Modrak and the scouts had him at ILB until the coaching staff realized it made no sense.
