  1. Football Genius Buddy Nix doesn't make mistakes. Therefore, what appears to be a highly questionable selection given all of the holes on this team is actually a great move that will just pan out many years down the road when the rest of the roster has completely turned over. No sense getting these great picks like Spiller and Carrington NFL experience now. Let them take a couple of years to soak in the game from the sidelines in street clothes.
  2. Any reasonable team says "thanks for the seven years of extremely mediocre play, Chris, but we've got a new scheme and have decided to go in a different direction." Football Genius Buddy Nix had other ideas.
  3. CHIX is not in charge. It's still BLOW Brandon Litman Overdorf Wilson
  4. WAY WAY WAY too early to call Maybin a bust. Oh, wait, that was last year. My bust. WAY WAY WAY too early to call Spiller a bust.
  5. If the standard is BILLS third rounders, I agree. But if the choice is between a top-96 prospect coming out of college versus a guy at the deepest position on an otherwise horrible team, I think it makes a lot of sense. However good Lynch is, the drop-off isn't that great in talent if he were to leave. A reasonably talented 3rd rounder at LB, offensive line, defensive line, or WR would be well worth it.
  6. Please. The team of cast-offs is better than our current roster. That's incredible.
  7. Why people brainstorm reasons to defend Modrak is beyond me. And I want this to happen now so I can accept a 3-13 season with the silver lining of drafting high. With this man in charge of scouting, I can't feel that way. As head scout, he is the information filter. So even if he doesn't make the pick, he is the one informing those who make the pick of the players' ability. Why don't people see how critically important that function is? Do you really think Jauron was the only one in the room who thought Maybin was a top talent? Even if Modrak wanted Cushing who did he think was the best pass rusher available? Maybin.
  8. No. We couldn't have passed on a better player at 9. Nix knows WAY TOO MUCH about football to make an error like that. Come on. Spiller went at 9 overall. Best went at 30. Read the pre-draft discussions. Spiller was clearly thought to be better (probably 5 of 6 analysts had him higher), but they were basically the same player with similar attributes and upside. Doesn't it at all bother you that we took a guy 21 spots earlier than the other guy given that it was basically a coin-flip proposition as to who would be better?
  9. One way the front office could appease ANGRY and FRUSTRATED fans like myself would be to fire Tom Modrak. I would feel much better about the season if I knew he wouldn't be around to screw up our top 5 pick next year (and the important top-37 pick in the second round, etc.) I understand a lot of people on this Board like to defend Modrak*, but the guy has been in charge of our drafts since 2002**. As Mark Gaughan explained, he was the one pulling the names off of the board from 2006-2009. He only has a job because Ralph likes him personally. Why not show you "GET" that our problems stem from drafting futility by eliminating the guy most responsible for it? * the arguments generally put forward by defenders of Modrak are some variant on 3 themes: (1) he was not the head man in the personnel department so it's not right to blame him; (2) he is a respected NFL personnel man who had great success with the Eagles and we're lucky to have a man of his stature; and (3) I personally was not in the "war room" when the decisions were made so even though Tom Modrak is in charge of all college scouting, ranks players at each position, and provides detailed analysis of all potential draft picks, the fact that drafts have sucked for 10 years is not his fault because someone else may have overruled him on several occasions. For responses to these rather inane arguments, see my posts on the following threads: http://forums.twobillsdrive.com/topic/114991-tom-modrak-must-go-%26/ http://forums.twobillsdrive.com/topic/113534-some-facts-about-tom-modrak/
  10. 1.) It's too early to call Maybin a bust. Lots of players have productive careers after showing ZERO through 18 NFL games. 2.) Of all the players who show ZERO in their first 18 NFL Games, about 1 in 450 turn out to be great pros. It is more likely Maybin is cut next summer than develops into a decent NFL player.
  11. Agreed. I guess eventually the feeling will wear off as it does every year, but right now I am still VERY pissed and totally disgusted.
  12. Cornell Green, you mean the guy BRILLIANT talent evaluator Buddy Nix decided would be a great stop-gap right tackle? The guy they signed so they could allow Jonathan Scott to leave even though Scott is 7 years younger and costs less than 1/3rd as much? Yep, Nix has got the ship pointing in the right direction, alright.
  13. Exactly. At this point, does Spiller look like a departure from the past regime? Luxury pick on guy who many feared would not translate to NFL (Reggie Bush-type) instead of addressing key needs of tackle and pass rusher? Please tell me how the Cornell Green signing differs from bringing in Bennie Andersen, Tutan Reyes, etc. This is the same garbage warmed over. Why do people not see that, but want to believe in Nix?
  14. No. I was told this team wasn't that bad and the problem was Dick Jauron.
  15. The thing is, was any of this somehow difficult to predict? Did you have a conversation with anyone in the offseason who thought moving Kelsay to OLB made sense? Why is Antonio Coleman not dressing? He should be getting Kelsay's live reps.
  16. What about the jackasses on this board who claim it wasn't our fault we got rid of incognito because he wanted out? Don't players get to pick where they want to go?
  17. Oh yeah -- absolutely -- must be. Because the simple explanation that Nix is out of his depth makes too much sense. Look guys, he's an old man who's lost his fastball mentally and wasn't ever given a chance to run anything when he was in his prime.
  18. But I thought it was all Jauron's fault? I was told "6-10 in 2009 + getting rid of Jauron = AT LEAST 8-8"? You mean that arithmetic doesn't work? You mean the team sucks and the new regime isn't really much better? Trading Perry Fewell for George Edwards isn't a slam dunk? You mean the fact that Chan Gailey was sh-t canned at Ga Tech and out of football in 2009 might have been a sign he wasn't going to be the savior? When will people start realizing a 70 year old first time GM -- an old scout who's never run anything and lost his fastball mentally -- won't fix anything either?
  19. You people with the "player X didn't want to be in Buffalo" nonsense need to get a life. Who cares if Incognito didn't want to be in Buffalo? Jim Kelly didn't want to be in Buffalo. We could have tendered both of these guys and chose not to. It makes no sense given our depth situation and the fact that Cornell Green is abysmal.
  20. Nix is way out of his depth. A fourth rounder is worth more than a guy giving you 4 carries a game.
  21. How does the Cornell Green signing impact your opinion of Buddy Nix? Cornell is making $3 million per year (including roster bonuses) yet no other team showed interest and the Raiders were eager to replace him. He's 34 years old and is not getting any better. This is a terrible decision in terms of the quality of the player and the financial impact to the team. He is clearly much worse than Jonathan Scott, who we could have retained for an $850K tender. More amazingly, he is the worst player on an offensive line that was already the worst in football. The Nix devotees on this board need to take this colossal personnel failure into account when talking about how this guy is going to rebuild the roster.
  22. We need help across the line. I rewatched on NFL Replay and let's not kid ourselves that the middle 3 are good just because the tackles are abysmal.
  23. Please, please stop with your ignorance. He was on our roster at the end of the season. Under the cba we could have retained his rights by tendering him based on his draft position. We chose not to. That is all you need to know. we thought he didn't fit in.
  24. STOP USING THIS AS AN EXCUSE. JIM KELLY DIDN'T WANT TO BE HERE. TO RETAIN HIS RIGHTS ALL WE HAD TO DO WAS TENDER HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
