  1. The NO defense is the problem. Brees threw for over 5,000 yds THIS YEAR. Not many QBs can say that. Payton is ready to move on from the Saints. Why would he not consider the Bills if the money and situation is right?? Brees seems to be timeless just like the soon to be 40 yr old T. Brady, who doesn't seem to be slowing down one bit. Brees is a helluva lot better than anything else that we have, including TT. The Bills have always settled for also-ran HCs in the past because RW would not pay the big money for the best. That has to stop. The Pegulas have the money. They need to be willing to pay what it takes to obtain the best possible HC. My original point was that with Payton you get Brees, and thereby solve two very big pressing issues immediately. With A. Lynn, who will play QB for the Bills?? At best, T. Romo. At worst, probably a rookie 2017 draft pick. Lynn & Romo vs Payton & Brees. Which of the two is more likely to succeed??
  2. The Bills need to make a big move..........and stop settling for guys who haven't done shiiiitttttt!! The Pegulas have the money to get Payton. Money talks. Give Payton control of personnel decisions.......whatever it takes. You get Payton and you also get D. Brees (Drees)!!!
  3. Doug, in order to remain the GM of the Bills you will need to make a very wise choice for the new Bills' HC. Make a poor choice and you will be gone and may never be an NFL GM again. Thus, I recommend that you consider all options before hastily going with A. Lynn. The Bills need a high quality, experienced NFL HC and they need a high quality, experienced NFL QB if they expect to ever make the playoffs. For those reasons, I recommend that your first option be Sean Payton for HC. He has the expertise and experience to match wits with Belichick and also knows what it takes to win the SB. Maybe even better than that, he would be the best man to sway QB Drew Brees to come to Buffalo. Drees like Brady is getting up in age, but is still very productive and can still make the clutch plays. Drees can play at least another three years, which would give the Bills plenty of time to find their QB of the future. Just because the existing Bills players are familiar with A. Lynn and like him does not mean that he is the BEST man for the job. Lynn would be a very inexperienced HC and likely an average one at best.
  4. For continuity sake I'd like to see the Bills stick with both Whaley and Ryan for at least one more year. Next year there will be a lot of vet FA QBs available as well as several good QBs to choose from in the draft. I see them dropping Manuel, but keeping C. Jones. Then signing or trading for a vet QB while also drafting a QB. I don't see them paying TT a guaranteed $30M, which is what he will be due in Mar. 2017. TT is more of a tease than anything else. The Bills had the worst passing offense in the league w/ TT at QB. He's just not good enough to compete with the NE's and Pittsburgh's of the world. Let's see what happens when the team can field all of these guys from Day 1: New vet QB (maybe Romo?), Watkins, Dareus, Sh. Lawson, Ragland. Needs: Proven vet QB, big/dominant WR, second versatile TE, shutdown CB, talented SS.
  5. I'm interested to find out what Bills fans really think. Are the Bills not likely to make the playoffs once again because of Ryan's poor coaching or is it because Whaley has made more than his fair share of failed decisions over time?? My two cents: Whaley - Agreed to draft Manuel in R1 (huge mistake), traded two R1 picks and a R4 pick for right to draft Watkins (huge mistake since he could have had WR OBJ by staying put or OLB K. Mack via the trade). Watkins, given his injury history, has been a near bust while OBJ and Mack have become mega-stars. He paid Dareus $100M+. Dareus is certainly capable of being a great player, but he's also lazy, injury prone, overweight, and a doper. Still sound like a good investment?? Whaley's biggest mistake has been not trying hard enough to obtain a franchise level QB. Settling for TT has made winning in a division that has been dominated by the Patriots the last eight years a real challenge. I would argue that is you're going to trade two R1 picks and a R4 pick it better be for a franchise level QB. Whaley has certainly done some very good things for the franchise, but the bigger picture issues listed above have contributed in a major way to the Bills' lack of success.
  6. It's not going to happen. The reason it won't happen is that you would not get a viable HC to sign with the Bills under those conditions. The HC has to TRUST and BELIEVE IN the people that work for him. Forcing him to work with people who may not have the same philosophy is like trying to force a square peg into a round hole. Beyond absurd.
  7. It would be really stupid to tell the HC that he will be fired at the end of the season and expect him to keep coaching. That's just completely ridiculous!! I don't believe that Rex will be fired unless the team completely embarrasses itself in these last two games. The Bills will beat NYJ. If they can beat Miami Rex will be the HC of the Buffalo Bills in 2017, whether the team makes the playoffs or not.
  8. Give me a break. This thread is a joke. TT will be the Bills QB for the rest of this season. Rex's job is not on the line. If the Bills beat the Steelers it's a whole new ball game for the Bills. This is a winnable game with it being a home game for the Bills.
  9. The answer is.....it's just too early to be making these type of decisions. Let's see what TT does in the next four games. TT does have potential for a higher upside. Fitz is a better passer, but he is also a turnover machine. TT has had to be a passer without the benefit of Watkins for most of the year. That's a pretty big handicap. As of right now, I would be inclined to keep TT, cut Manuel, keep C. Jones, and draft another QB in R1 or R2 to develop behind TT. Then concentrate on building up the defense. This team is built to win with a strong running game and a defense that keep them in games. It needs to continue to fortify that philosophy.
  10. Did anybody really think the Bills were going to beat the Raiders in Oakland.............without the services of TE Clay, WR Woods, WR Harvin, CB Darby............and with WR Watkins still not 100%?? The point is that there are four games left.........three at home.............and the Bills STILL have a chance to make the playoffs. Beating Pittsburgh will be their toughest task, although maybe not as tough as having to beat Oakland on the road. I happen to think that if the Bills can beat Pitt that they could run the table as they face winless Cleveland at home, a weakened Miami at home, and a Petty-led NYJ team away that looks like they have packed it in for the winter. Have a lil faith.
  11. While S and RT are definite needs it's the QB position that has to be examined very thoroughly and from all angles. I think the jury is still out on TT. He definitely has shown signs of being a franchise QB, but not on a consistent basis. He's been difficult to evaluate from my perspective because he hasn't always had the weapons (i.e. Watkins, McCoy, Woods, Henderson, etc.) to properly evaluate him. TT pros: He's always a threat to run, evades the rush well, can make all of the required throws, can hit the deep ball with surprising accuracy. TT cons: Does not seem to play well when the team is behind, tends to throw high and miss on easy throws, lacks touch at times, tends to be conservative with his decision-making, his short stature works against him when forced to stay in the pocket. I'm anxious to see how he compares to D. Carr this week since Carr has definitely become a rising star.
  12. at least from my perspective, is that Tyrod Taylor looks like a franchise QB as long as the OC runs the type of plays to suit his style. He needs to always be a threat to run. Much like Russell Wilson, Tyrod is always a threat to the defense with his feet. His OC needs to acknowledge that and look to take advantage of that. I thought TT played a great game against a very fast and very aggressive defense in their home stadium, which was also very loud and chaotic. Seattle has given up the fewest points in the entire league eac of the last five years. The main reason the Bills fell short vs Seattle last night was because they could not cover anybody. But TT certainly matched Wilson series for series.......and he did it without S. Watkins.
  13. Don't judge the team based upon the Pats game. The last time I checked they were 7-1, which means that everybody is having trouble beating them. We were the one team that did beat them BTW. The Bills need their strong running game to win. That's because they don't have the weapons to have a strong passing game. They desperately need Watkins back fully healthy in order to have a chance at a viable passing game. They need McCoy so that the running game can compliment the defense. Rex needs to be smart and not play L. Alexander on ST or at least greatly limit his time on ST. There is reason for optimism because the team is going to get some of their better players back healthy very soon. McCoy will likely play vs Seattle. Dareus and Lawson will have had a chance to round back into football shape. Ditto Henderson. Hopefully, Alexander too. Harvin has been added to the WR corps. Watkins will likely be available for the Cincy game after the Bye. Those are SEVEN very prominent players....difference-makers who can get the team back on track. All, except for Watkins, will likely be on the field vs Seattle this coming Monday night. For the Bills, it's about getting healthy and hitting their stride at the right time.
  14. It's the best thing for Aaron at this time. I don't think his career is over though.
  15. No. Just because the Taylor-led Bills couldn't handle the Brady-led pats doesn't mean that they can't handle the rest of the NFL. The Bills need to get healthy. Taylor needs his weapons back. He needs McCoy. He needs Watkins. He needs a healthy R. Woods and C. Clay. Then let's see what happens.
  16. What matters is what the Pegulas think and they have stated publicly that they believe CONTINUITY is the key to winning long term. They plan to stick with REX for the foreseeable future.....and rightly so. The Steelers are the perfect model. They've only had three HCs since the 1960's. Rex has shown that he is an above average NFL HC, esp. given the proven staff that he has assembled. If the Bills can get their core players back on the field for the duration of the season I firmly believe that Rex will lead them to the playoffs in 2016.
  17. The Bills need their core players in order to beat the Pats this week. You can best believe that those players will find a way to play in this game. It is the most critical game of the season for determining their playoff chances. if they win, they can actually win the AFCE outright. If they lose, they would fall to 4-4 and the Pats would ascend to 7-1, meaning they would likely have no chance to win the division and would have to fight for a dicey WC spot. Player Playing Status: Dareus - practicing - 99% chance he'll play. A. Williams - not practicing, but not in concussion protocol either. I'd say 75% chance he'll play. Goodwin - not practicing, in concussion protocol - I'd say 50% chance he'll play. Woods - practicing - 95% chance he'll play. Henderson - active/practicing - 100% chance he'll play. McCoy - not practicing - 99% chance he'll play. Watkins - no longer wearing boot - could be available as early as next week!! Dareus is a huge add. He will go a long way towards containing Blount. That could force the Pats to become more one dimensional than they'd like. Woods is important because he can help move the chains and help keep the ball away from Brady. Without Woods, the Bills don't have much to speak of at WR currently. McCoy is the biggest key obviously. If the Bills can run the ball with McCoy and he can have some success it will greatly increase the Bills' chances for a win. Gotta have McCoy back or it could be a real uphill climb. The Bills will need to play well in all three phases to beat this Pats team (currently ranked #1 overall in the league). The Bills may actually have the edge on defense and ST. They've shown that they are capable of making some big plays on ST. With so many key players coming back, the fact that the game is in Buffalo, and the fact that the Bills know they can beat this Pats team I think the Bills have a good shot.
  18. The Bills are desperate at WR right now. Torrey Smith would be a very nice addition. His an excellent vet WR. He can really stretch the field for us. The Bills would be fortunate to get him for just a mid round pick. Smith has been greatly underutilized in SF because their offense sucks.
  19. Brady looked rattled vs Pittsburgh. If the Steelers can rattle him then so can the Bills. Gronk and Bennett did absolutely nothing until very late in the game. I do think that the Bills will need their strong running game to beat the Pats. That means they will need a healthy McCoy. A strong running game means the Bills can win the TOP, which means they can keep the ball away from Brady and the Patsy offense. I think the Bills need Dareus to play to help shutdown Blount, which the Bills are very capable of doing. It would be nice to have A. Williams for the game, but he'll probably be out. This is a winnable game for the Bills at home against the Bills' main obstacle for making the playoffs. PatsyFanNH knows it and is definitely nervous about this one or he would not be here.
  20. Thankfully, they are at least trying to do something about their depleted WR corps. Roberts just might be able to help until Watkins, Listenbee, and/or Easley return. R. Bush is having to fill in at WR this week.
  21. They need to find a way to get Reggie involved in the offense. He doesn't seem to have the same burst that he once had. The team is obviously a lil desperate at WR right now with only Woods (inj.), Goodwin, Powell, Hunter, and Tate on the active roster. That has to be one of the very worst WR corps in the entire league. Reggie can potentially help on short passes out of the backfield and from the slot. Right now all you can do is use what you've got. My recommendation though is that Whaley should be on the lookout to add a WR or two if he plans to help this team get to the playoffs. I'd love to know when Easley and Listenbee might be available to be added to the 53 man roster.
  22. FireRex, so what you're saying is that if the Bills don't make the playoffs, for whatever reason, that Rex should be fired?? I think that's asinine. I think that's where we differ. I believe that Rex and his coaching staff (now that Lynn is running the show on offense and Rob Ryan is providing more input on defense, esp. on the red zone defense) are a coaching staff to be reckoned with. Miami just beat the daylights out of the Steelers. Are you going to say that beating Miami proves nothing if the Bills win that game too?? "We've also just come off a streak where we haven't played a legit quarterback." - Really, you don't consider Carson Palmer to be a legit NFL QB??
  23. Hey FireRex, I want to know when you're gonna change your pseudo name. We all want to know. Can you realistically sit there and tell me that Rex and his coaching staff need to be fired at this point?? The point of the article that has been referenced above is simply that the Bills are currently in a very good position to make the playoffs this year. It's NOT saying that they definitely will make it!! Too many things can happen beyond their control to guarantee that. For example, if key players get injured for long periods of time that will certainly have an adverse effect and could ultimately keep them out, but the point is that Rex has this team on the right track. They've won FOUR GAMES IN A ROW and they've done it in convincing fashion. The truly amazing thing is that they've done it without some of their best players..........WATKINS, DAREUS, SH. LAWSON, HENDERSON, RAGLAND, and EASLEY.....................not to mention M. Lawson, Ka. Williams, Listenbee, et al. I expect that this team will only get better once Dareus, Sh. Lawson, Henderson return. There's still a chance that Watkins, Easley, and Listenbee will play for the Bills this year.........and it wouldn't come too soon if you ask me because the WR corps has been seriously depleted.
  24. Here's an interesting article where analytics are used to predict whether a team will make the playoffs. . Link: http://www.buffalorumblings.com/2016/10/19/13316932/nfl-playoff-odds-week-7-buffalo-bills-solidifying-position. Check out the Football Power Index as well. It has the Bills at #4 overall.
