  1. Like a lot of fans here I would like to pick up a quality qb in the next draft. So far i'm leaning towards Luck. I read somewhere that he is dedicated to getting his degree before moving on to the next stage in his life. That doesn't mean he won't change his mind and that he will come out early. But what if he doesn't come out? Should our FO go for a Mallet? If Nix and Whaley think a Mallet or other qb is a franchise qb then fine, they will probably go for said qb. If they don't see a franchise qb then imo it's ok that they fill other holes.

If Luck really is our guy and he doesn't come out, then fine, we wait another year and trade up for him when he does come out. I don't want our FO to rush and pick a qb just for the sake of getting a new gunslinger. We rushed with JP when we could have waited a year to get Rodgers. Maybe i'm more patient then some here, but to get the Right qb, I'm willing to wait.

If Luck isn't the Right qb for us then that's fine too. Just as long as we find the correct one. When you rush with decisions mistakes can happen. When we pull the trigger for Our Right qb, then all our homework better have been done and it should be worth the wait.

Totally agree and Luck is the right one. Every time I see him I am impressed, if he doesn't come out we need to use some mafia tactics to "persuade" him to come out :flirt:

  2. We all know Chan came out and said he wants to run the 34 when he took over. But the staff also said they would use mutilpe fronts bepending on personnel.

Well, through 4 games, the Bills have very very very rarely been in a 3 man front. I dont have exact numbers like my Troupe myth, but I would estimate that the Bills have been in a 34 alignment no more than 15% of the defensive snaps. Honestly, Maybin hasnt played a single down as a LB. Every snap he has his hand in the dirt along with 3 other lineman.

People are mad and I understand that. But I get tired of callers on wgr calling in claiming the 34 has been a huge mistake (I havent read too many posts on here about it, but there have been a few). We dont even run that defense enough to consider it a problem.

Please pay more attention to the details people!!!

    Carry on.

Good post. The 3/4 is the way to go and I was more than pissed when we got rid of it when Greg Williams took over claiming that his D was number one and ours was three but he failed to remember the year before we were #1. Anyway we don't have the horses for that D right know and the coaches are doing what they can to win. That being said they need to stick the guys in there that they drafted for the 3/4 and let them get some experience so they can see who can play the 3/4 and then draft the right guys next year to fill the needs. How do we no if Carrington and Troupe can play if they are never on the field. I think Troupe and Kyle are too small for nose and should be switched to end we should have done all we could to get Casey Hampton in here or NT with size like 350 or better. This small NT is BS and the will will never work in the 3/4 and don't give that crap about Dallas and Miami using small NTs because they don't have dominant Ds. All the great 3/4 team have big monster NTs and ends like the Ravens, Jets, Pats, Packers, Steelers.

  3. The Patriots love draft picks! They already have two 1st's, two 2nd's, two 3rd's, and two 4th's in next year's draft. We might as well give them a product they love and fill some of the Bills needs.

    Patriots Receive

    • The Bills 3rd Round Pick in 2011
    • Patriots receive Drayton Florence or Terrence McGee (Patriots have weak corners)
    • Patriots receive Marcus Stroud (Patriots have weak DE's and Stroud cost a lot of money, a salary dump)

    Bills Receive

    • Logan Mankins
    • Tully Banta-Cain (an upgrade at outside linebacker over Moats, Maybin, or Kelsay as our LB crew is horrific)

The Bills still then have their 1st, 2nd, and two fourth round picks (Lynch trade) all while filling two needs and giving the Patriots another draft pick and filling two of their team needs.

Hell no the Pats don't need anymore picks, we have guards and B-cain isn't a huge upgrade. They can have Lee Evans to replace Moss and we get their Third this year and a fourth in 2012.

  4. I have been thinking these past few days while reading the board, reading the headlines etc and began to wonder if there really is a master plan.

This season as I think everyone is becoming aware of is that this is our year to bottom out and really an evaluation year. I honestly had thought and hoped that we would be able to at least win 6 or 7 with a possiblity of that increasing to 10 knowing that Gailey would gain us a few extra wins from actually having an offense. We will be lucky to win a couple games this season, which is fine; we sure as hell could use a draft with high picks. We weren't very active in free agency this past off season, we only really signed a few players to get us through the season as we begin to transition back to a 3-4 and to fill a spot created by Brad Butler retiring. Seeing there may be a lockout next season and with the uncapped year and the adjustment in the CBA increasing the number of years of service for unrestricted free agency, we weren't very active - not many teams were. Knowing that we wouldn't be able to win it all this season and go for broke, it was decided by the Bills to just do enough to limp by and use this season as a talent assessment for players on our current roster and to reshape the organization as Buddy and Chan see fit. Buddy's early comments saying we are not that far off, were not necessarily the words of a used car salesman, but rather hoping for what most of us thought - about 7 wins and Chan's offensive mind getting us a few more wins on top of that.

Marshawn had to go, we all knew it. Was it what we hoped for?? revisonists say we took a guy in drafted in the top 15 and traded him for a 4th rounder. With him being 1 more incident away from a big suspension, no team was going to offer a premium pick. If the Raiders needed a running back, maybe we could've sent them there and extorted picks from them like the Pats* do. I was listening to Coach Sal's show, as PTR brought up in his thread, he brought up a good point Why waive Meredith when we could've waived Green - would the drop off be that much? The fact is is that Meredith was a previous regime's pick-up and Green was their's. I would assume that Evans, Whitner and company will be on notice. So I wouldn't be surprised to see more moves, whether its trades through the deadline on the 19th or after the new CBA gets hammered out and the offseason begins.

Seeing that I've given up hope this season, I began to look at FAs for 2011 and came acorss a Crypt keeper article from this past Feb, (My link)

Basically he states: "No one expects the union to change its position on free agency. In a new deal, look for unrestricted free agency to return to four years of service. If so, 153 contracts will expire after the 2010 season. The list of players affected includes Peyton Manning and Tom Brady.

Throw all of those things together and you have a list of potential 2011 free agents -- under normal unrestricted free-agent rules -- that might be around 400 or 500 players at the very least if the 2010 class of restricted free agents stick to one-year deals.

Imagine the bidding war then. Say what you want about owners wanting to cut costs, but the NFL is a competitive league. Any time there is competitive bidding for good players, salaries jump. The good players will get paid well no matter what happens, and two years of free-agent classes would come together in 2011.

What's scary is the small number of players signed through 2011 and 2012. I know it's crazy to look ahead to 2012, but slightly more than 500 players are under contract until then, with about 40 percent of those being players who just completed their rookie seasons."

Here is a link for the players who are eleigible to be FA's in 2011: "http://www.kffl.com/static/nfl/features/freeagents/fa.php?y=2011"]2011 FAs[/url]

Poz is apaprently an FA after this season???

Just looking back through things, I really billieve the intent was to limp through this year knowing that there will be a large FA class when the new CBA is reached and that they were going to evaluate all talent on our roster with our new coaching staff. I think they have found that we are talent deprived and the cupboard is really bare. We will have a top pick ion next years draft, more players will be purged, new FAs (role players) will be signed and impact players will be drafted under the best available mantra....

So who the list do you think we should pull in?

  5. Marshawn Lynch never fit the image the franchise wanted.

Marshawn's image was perceived by some as thuggish. He has gold teeth and long hair. He is intimidating and threatening to sheltered suburbanites. He has had some off the field issues, and his whole persona does not fit into the overall image that the front office marketing machine is trying to create for this franchise.

CJ Spiller is more All-American. He has a winning smile and less tattoos. He rates higher on the Character charts, and his persona feels safer and less dangerous.

Good luck in Seattle, Marshawn! They are a more open-minded people up there.

All true, the guy is a gangster wannabe. I hope he is the leagues leading rusher and that 2012 pick will be better than 2011. This move is a great relief in many ways; 1. It shows that the front office was really trying to trade him for atop pick and not just for any low pick 2. They weren't blowing smoke about improving the roster 3. Way too many backs splitting carries making them ineffective.

  6. Say what you want but.....

Who ran for extra yardage late in the game when Buffalo had no chance of winning?

Who was Buffalo leading rusher for the day?

Who was up off the bench talking with the offense squad when other QB's (No names mentioned)sat on the bench staring into space.

Who wacked Marshawn on the helmet and pointed out a blitzing Linebacker? 5 times???

Who threw the ball up twice with defensive players inches away and still got the ball near the open receiver? That was amazing.

Hate me if you want but Fitzpatrick is what a Quarterback should be, a leader!

I am not saying he is the final answer at Quarterback but he sure gave it his best shot on Sunday.

Fans need to recognize effort and back the players who give it all.

    Nice Job Fitz

    Amen brother

  7. If the do not put a few wins, we will be talking about this again in the offseason. Ralph will blow this up, one more time before he passes on (he does not have too long, so he may move fast this time)

If he does he is a fool. Billick and Martz are not the answer, Schottenheimers would be great but they told Marty no and Jr. wasn't interested. Chan is good coach it's just going to take time to get better players here. On that point Nix really messed up on Spiller, that pick should have been traded for multiple picks to get the lines shored up. The OTs are dreadful and besides Kyle Williams who should be at end the front 7 needs an overhaul. This BS of small NTs will never work in a 3-4 we need another Ted Washington who BTW was the best NT of all time and should be in the Hall.

  8. Just have a question for all you long time bills fans. By long time im talking like 30-40 years. Anyways, my question is: Has there ever been a lower point to be a bills fan? If yes, when? Just curious. Go bills :bag:

Well 84- 85 was bad with 2-14 sesaons and Hank Bul-ugh, but this could be the worst, we'll see how it goes. The only silver lining is high draft choices. I think Gailey is a good coach he just doesn't have much to work with and hope Ralph gives him time to turn it around if he fires he officially becomes worse than Al Davis.

  9. Man this is tough to watch but what made me start this thread was Spiller's return called back. Then to top it off the announcers are piling on about 3 jets open in the end zone  . :wallbash: Going to be a long season, here's to other defeated teams gettting some wins

at what point did this game make you :blink:

  10. He's under 6', he's too skinny, and he's got a weak arm.

On the bright side he seems to command their offense, plays with poise, and can read a defense.

He probably won't even come out this year. If he does, he rates to be a late round pick or undrafted.

    agreed.

  11. Toronto would be better than LA but wouldn't I root for them either way. LA won't get the Bills those losers don't want a team which is why they lost out to Houston. I have thought about who I would root for if they Left and honestly I would say no one. After the Bills I root for teams that are smash mouth so it would change over time. I rooted for Tampa because of Alstott but know could care less. I love what the ravens and jets have done and cheer them on in the playoffs. I should like the Steelers but for some reason just can never get on board with them even they do what I like, probably because this kid I new growing up always shoved it in my face when the Bills lost and Steelers won, which was a lot in the early 80's. Maybe it is not so much the teams but the players and and right right now I am big fan of Peyton Hillis and will be of Tebow and Gerhart when they start. I will never be a Miami or Dallas Fan no matter what.

  12. Edwards gone, Mitchell gone. I don't invision jackson or lynch still being here next year. 25% of our roster was turned over from the start. were going to win inbetween 2-6 games, have an opportunity to draft mallet, locker, luck, or ponder, couple more free agent signings in the offseason, and the bills will be on they're way to winning. Maybe 7-9 or 8-8 year two under gailey and just keep improving from there.

I will say this. For all you guys who think it is a plan to bottom out, your dead wrong. They don't have the guys to win this year, thats why I predict this record. But Chan Gailey is trying to win every game, so is Nix, they are COACHES. NO COACH PLANS TO LOSE!!

We have a young nucleaus to build around I think. Bell, Levitre, Wood, Spiller, Evans, Parrish, Nelson are all keepers. Plus on D with Poz, Kelsay, Byrd, McKelvin, Stroud, Edwards, Williams, hopefully Troup.

Do we need a pash rusher, or two? YES. Do we need a franchise QB? YES. do we need our Oline to continue to develop? YES. Buttt we have the guys on the Oline to develop who have the talent, we have the QB's available in the next draft. So lets just find those pashrushersssss

Please stop dooming and glooming. Stay positive. Its better for your health.

Jackson is going nowhere and our starting left and right tackles are a wreck, so our line is our top priority after QB then pashrush.

  13. In reality, or to people that can accept reality, watching/reading/listening to everything that has gone down with the Bills in the past few weeks/months truely confirms that the only true way to build a francise it through the draft. I know I may be stating the obivous, but as I continue to read peoples posts and comments it seems as if other teams baggage is quickly deemed the "savior". This goes as far as "the QB situtation being solved with Fitz". The guy has been in the league 6 years and been on 3 seperate teams (2 years in B-LO). If he was to be an every day starter on a regular basis in the NFL he would have been there by now and would have beaten out his competition not slid in by default

The Bills are truely 2-4 years away from being a Playoff contender, especailly being in the AFC East. This is reality. We need to have confidence in Gailey and Nix and need to understand that players such as EVANS, JACKSON, McGHEE, STROUD even KELSAY wont be around when the Bills truly become a playoff contender. If this means letting Vets go (Mitchell) or trading away players such as the ones above for picks or youth so be it. I am a believer in Evans and dont feel that we have seen his true potential but at this point I dont believe you ever will in Buffalo so why not get him to a team that could use a good WR for a 2nd round pick. He is going to be 30 next year. Face it, the Bills are rebuilding, starting from scratch. Save LYNCH, trade JACKSON...lynch is 5 years younger. Everyone is sick of getting rid of the "talent" but when the talent wont be there to help you in 2, 3, 4 years whats the difference?

Anyway, enough with the ORTON for LYNCH....enough of the Castoffs are the Saviors...only time, good drafts and good player development within is what will cure the BILLS

Have you seen the Jets or patriots ? they made all kinds of trades to get to where they are ,we should too. I wouldn't do Lynch for Orton But Bulaga or Tewbow in heart beat.

  14. I just read a really interesting interview on the Buffalo Rumblings blog with one of SB Nation's draftniks, Dan Kadar. Like many other people who scout college players, he admits to having rated Locker WAY too high. In fact he claims that the only blue-chip QB prospect out there is Andrew Luck.

My question is, if Luck isn't available, in which direction do the Bills go with their 1st round pick? What's really interesting is that, so far, there are no demonstrably elite offensive tackles this year; in many of the mocks I've seen, there's not an OT taken until late in the first round.

If the Bills are in a high enough position, I would love to see this team take DE/OLB Robert Quinn out of North Carolina. The guy's a pass rushing monster, which is obviously an area of huge need. I wouldn't mind Georgia WR AJ Green either to give some kind of spark to our offense.

Any thoughts? Here's the link to the Rumblings article, by the way:

    http://www.buffalorumblings.com/2010/10/2/1724169/rumblings-draft-scouting-kadar-interview-week-5-preview#storyjump

    Mallet has first round talent.

  15. Yes, hate to be Jerry Sullivan here but the Bills need to get that top pic to really start rebuilding this franchise, like we did with Bruce Smith, Man can't believe its been 25 years. That is the down side of building through the draft.I belive in building through the draft as your foundation but as an organization we should explore every avenue to build this team, which means free agency, the draft and trades. I don't know why they think it has to be through the draft when there are other ways and it's quite maddening to be honest when you quality free agents that pass by with out even a hint of interest. we should have done all we could to have gone after Casey Hampton or Vince Willfork And Carlos Dansby. It may have broke the bank but so what, we break our banks just paying for friggin tickets. It's time Ralph starts putting his money where his mouth is and get great players in here. He was willing to hand out ten million to Shannahan that money should have went to players. Also Logan Mankins and Marcuss McNeil are unhappy and now would be a good time to pick them up. Since we like to build through the draft why didn't we trade back for more picks? Spiller is great but we needed a lot more than a scat back. We could have traded back twice in the first round into the low twenties and could have had Three 2nd round picks instead of one to which we could have gotten our starting left and right tackles, Troupe and a pass rushing OLB. Bottom line is the Bills could do a lot more than what they are doing to get better but they have chosen the old slow way so unfortunately we need a bad year to get better.

  16. This years crop of QB's does not rank a low #1-#3 selection in the draft.

There is no Peyton Manning, Sam Bradford, John Elway.

I hate to ruin your plans but the Bills don't need to lose to move up in the draft.

Truth is I would take Fitzpatrick or Brohm over any of these guys. :flirt:

Since you can't name any of this "years crop of QB's" you obviously haven't watched any games this year because Luck was better than our QBs last year and Mallet has more talent than all of ours combined.

  17. Alright - So I haven't posted in awhile but a few things are bugging me.

1.) I was a huge Kelsay hater - the guy never gets sacks, he was a "bust" for a 2nd round DE, etc. but then I started to look at him as a DE and not the second coming of aaron schobel. I recommend you all do the same. The guy is, and has been, our best DE against the run since he got here. he is going to continue to be solid against the run. This is no different then having a guy like Dwan Edwards brought in. both are solid all around players who will generate a small pass rush, but who excel at stopping the run.

2.) I hate as much as anyone that he is asked to drop into coverage. This is to the fault of the DC, and we can only hope it will change once they get a respectable LB that can cover TEs. For the time being, Bryan Scott is sadly our answer. Is he a pass covering LB? not at all. He is, however, an everydown player who reacts well and diagnoses plays. His weakness is, and will be, speed. If the DC continues to use him in positions as a stand up 3-4 outside backer that is used to rush the passer and contain RBs, he will be a solid, every down player. However, if he is used at anypoint inthe future to COVER a TE or a RB out in the flat, then shame on them. Note - The bills under Jauron were NOTORIOUS for placing Schobel and Kelsay and Denny back in coverage positions. this made no sense then and makes no sense now.

3.) His weaknesses? speed. Pure and simple he isn't a speed rusher or a pass covering LB. He is a run stopper and a containment player who also plays on special teams (yes watch and he actually is in there for plays).

Is he worth 6mil? It's not much of a raise (250k/yr) from his last deal so at the risk of creating another hole on our team its not a horrible move. We are a team with a LOT of needs. He is a solid contributor and losing him is just creating more holes we must fill in the draft and FA.

finally, after I get flamed at, don't take my word but look at what Scouts INC has to say about him:

"He will be an outside linebacker in the Bills' 3-4 defense. He is a player who is used to playing with his hand on the ground. Kelsay is a good athlete, however, and he should be able to make the adjustment. He shows very good initial quickness as an up-the-field player. He is small but uses his hands well to keep blockers off his body. He shows good lateral speed and range. Kelsay might struggle early versus the run as it could be tough for him to diagnose as a stand-up LB."

    Well said.

  18. I'm not talking draft picks. For the sake of this scenario, let's say that it is March 2011, and you have just been given the GM role as the Bills. Your first order of business is to trade Lee Evans. Ralph Wilson has demanded it, and you must do it or be punished with death, or whatever the hell sort of punishment would make you do it.

The draft has exploded. There is no such thing as a draft. You must trade Evans for a positional player in the NFL who could start on our team (this means lots of backups). What position do you go with?

I would probably go with LB. I feel like LB is obviously a problem right now, but not one that we necessarily want to deal with in the draft with T and QB in such awful shape.

What happens if we trade Evans at the WR position? Well, it's a virtual no-man's land.

But with Edwards being gone and Evans being relatively quiet about his departure, with his recent frustration about getting the ball, and with the quiet rumblings that he may, at some point, demand a trade this year, I think that it is at least plausible to suggest that the Bills would try to use Evans as one of their lone pieces of leverage to improve elsewhere. A team like Washington may be willing to take him instead of trying to get someone out of the draft, you never know.

There will be draft next year that said I would trade him to Greenbay for Bulaga.

  19. I think the only reason this heats up is because of media hype and speculation by reporters. Not that I believe Chan saying we'll keep him and I am not saying he is a liar either, but I do not see us trading possibly our best player to get nothing more than a 3rd rounder. I wish these rumors would go away.

If Buffalo trades him I am done. I am done from the Bills. I will stop following them. I will stop posting here. I will be done with the Bills.

    No you won't/aren't.
