Khalil Mack: Take or Trade Down
BigBuff423 replied to BigBuff423's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If I were pressed to take one of those three, it would have to be Mack...for this reason: Mack is the only veritable impact LB in the Draft (IMO) while there are some great WRs that will still be there for three or four rounds....and I'm not completely sold on Watkins being such an "elite" type player...I have some reservations, if I had to choose in the top 10... Maybe move him to ILB, as has been discussed much here you could move Kiko to OLB...that might look pretty good with Mack in the middle...ha, I made a funny... -
Khalil Mack: Take or Trade Down

The Cowboys were a team that came to my mind also, despite going away from the 3-4 Defense and it seemed like a natural trade, between 17 and 9...now, whether the BILLS should Draft Ebron is a totally different discussion... -
Khalil Mack: Take or Trade Down

Yeah, it's hard for me to believe as well, but apparently some of the Draft guys think QB trumps all, and then add in Clowney and Watkins and Robinson, and somehow Mack makes it Buffalo...I don't think he survives past the first 5, but their Mocks got me thinking about what was best for the team, long-term....tough decision depending on what a team is offering...if I didn't make it clear in my thread post, let me say, LOVE Mack as a LBer for the BILLS!! -
Bills to meet with Rogers Communications

I hope this Toronto series is like the deer you accidentally hit on a snowy evening in the woods: you shoot it and let the wolves devour the carcass. -
Khalil Mack has been the center-piece of many fans swoon during this Off-Season and the NFL Combine only elevated his stock with Mike Mayock saying that if he had the 1st Overall pick, he would Draft Mack. However, a couple of recent mock drafts have Mack falling to Buffalo at #9, which would make some of us extremely delighted if by some stretch of cosmic justice that were to happen. However, in my humble opinion Mack is BEST suited for an OLB spot in a 3-4 based on athelticism, speed, instincts, and size. This got me thinking, what if at #9 Mack was indeed still available, given the state of the BILLS - do you think it would behoove Buffalo best to run to the podium and hit the Mack button or if suitors come calling and willing to add in seriously valuable Draft picks, however you may define them, do you trade back and allow Mack to stack the Draft picks for Buffalo?? I'm in quite a quandry about this one...I would LOVE to see Mack in a BILLS uniform, despite what I said above about his best fit as an OLB in a 3-4, because his strength, size, and instincts would prove to be a huge advantage to an emerging Defense in the NFL. However, unless the BILLS break the bank (which we know they won't do) there are still quite a few positions that could use some serious upgrage in talent, i.e. RT, TE, LB (of course), outside WR, and LG just to mention a few. Getting some quality Draft picks, not 4th to 7th rounders alone will do it, would help the youth movement and gain real talent in a year when the Draft is its richest in quite some time. Food for thought and something that apparently some Draft-niks believe is not only possible, but probable....interested in this board's state of mind.

Ridiculous....I'm only giving EJ this upcoming year to show that he at least has the potential to be a good QB for the BILLS, but Drafting one high this year is a mistake, on so many levels....take a guy like Aaron Murray in the 6th or 7th Round, sure...but I agree, it would have "disaster" written all over it....again, on so many levels...

The previous years Draft to me, the one that stands out when I was yelling and couldn't believe it...was the year the BILLS took Whitner and passed on Ngata...I was flumoxed by such a stupid move and knew, it would set the team back for a year or more... This year's Draft...i've been all over the board about him, Martavis Bryant, WR Clemson...he's the guy you don't hear about he declared as a Junior with just one true year under his belt...he played for Clemson all three years, but with Hopkins ahead of him and now Watkins, he's considered the also-ran...he will be a guy in another a couple years, that will end up being a fast and great WR...maybe not as good as the other "Bryant" in Big D, but very, very good....he's young, and still needs to work on some aspects of his game, but his natural ability and love for the game can bee seen in his games thus far...and what I truly like, from what I've seen and I haven't watched a bunch of Clemson games so someone who has can chime in on this, but he makes some rather subdued excitment after catches and gives the ball to the official and celebrates with his team...this kid, will be someone to talk about in a couple years...WRs rarely make an impact in their first year, but watch-out for him on the highlight reel

Relax cupcake...I take issue with your point, you don't have to get bent out of shape....as for SJ having three seasons with 10 TDs, that's just not true...he had 1...and last year he didn't produce while struggling with injuries...so, where is the guaranteed playmaker?? As for "relentless", feel free to walk away from this discussion...no one is holding your feet to the fire...but you continue to post, and I will respond until I'm ready to walk away...that's the basic principle of a discussion. And you're right, I did compare SJ...because if he is on the roster and using up CAP money, that means someone else, ala Draft or FA, ISN'T...I don't think I said he "sucks", I just take issue with what he is making versus what he is producing and I think the Draft offers better WRs for the value...just, IMO of course...hopefully, me HAVING an opinion isn't too much for you.... -

Wayne has won a SB with Manning, Megatron and AJ Green are the only two that I think are incredible, despite their lackluster team and in several other teams would have a SB ring already....however, the rest have come at the sacrifice of other parts of their teams...Atlanta and Texans, need I say more? Thomas at the expense of a good Defense, Bryant in dysfucntion camp in Dallas, Crabtree missed most of this year and has largely been a non-factor, and Kendall Wright...who??....My point really is not that these players are fantastic in their own right, but my point is if you put Andre on the Patsies, is he a SB winner right now? Or Dez on the Packers or Seahawks? What about Larry Fitz...what if he went to San Fran instead of them having Crabtree and Fitz produced the way he has in AZ, is that San Fran Offense so good that now San Fran has a complete team?...when you spend the money in a Cap limited system on players such as a WR, you limit what you can do with other positions...and so far, Ravens last year, Seahawks this year, Giants the year before...all have relatively non-descript WRs but clutch QBs and solid Defenses...yes GB won, with an elite QB and WR corp before Jennings bolted, but their Defense also stepped up...but my point being I would rather have an All-Pro Tacklet at bookends and great Offensive line and know that the QB will be protected, the RBs will get space to run, and the WRs will have time to get open, rather than hinging all my hope that the WRs can out run, out-juke, and get off the jamb before the QB is pasted to the turf....it's a difference of opinion, and that's cool....but I just think the way to build a team is from the Offensive and Defensive Line out, with a great QB under center...the rest of the moving parts / pieces can be figured out....and, on the one hand one poster was saying how SJ is a playmaker and that we need to Draft one in the 1st round, yet SJ himself was a 7th round pick...where's the logic in that?? -

We have a different definition of playmaker I suppose....in order to full flush out the argument, we would need to come to a consensus on the definition of playmaker, which I'm willing to do...if you want to draft one, we can go from there, until then it looks futile... -

Ok...so other than the SB they lost when they had Randy Moss...tell me who were the other WRs on their SB winning teams? What did they do after NE? I'll be you can name more Defensive Players on those teams than you can their WRs? How about their RBs during that time?? Past their prime RBs...? Guys who had a year or two left to contribute? I'm more than willing to listen... Lewan and Golden Tate in taht scenario...b/c Tate can play, and Lewan will contribute not only in pass protection but also in the Run game...and Tate is a hell of a KR/PR as well First, Wilson is not a QB that wins games on his own (usually), look at the SB, their Defense and STs did that for them...is he a good QB? Absolutely, can't win without one (as we all know too well!), but he isn't a difference maker...as for RB, I disagree...Lynch is good, no doubt there..but put Chris Johnson or Spiller in that Offense or maybe more appropriately, Ben Tate or maybe even Trent Richardson, where running is the priority and the Defense keeps the ball in the Seattle Offense's hands and that changes their career trajectory signficantly...the OL had issues, but look at where they invested their Draft choices and priorities...Defensive Line, Okung at LT..and by design Wilson bootlegged much of the time, to compensate for some height issues.....you can't take stats and stick them in a vaccuum, you need stats, but put in some perspective...if you think the BILLS should draft a WR at 9, feel free...it's what we all do here, have and share our opinions...but saying that QB and RB is more important as a whole flies in the face of all things logical in football and is contrary to what nearly every other team in the NFL, most importantly the successful ones, actually practice.... -
who thinks we will go OT in the 1st round
BigBuff423 replied to Braedenstearns's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Neither...if Robinson or Lewan is there, you jump at them (barring Mack is still available which he won't be and I'm using the parameters of your scenario)...as evidenced by teams like NE and Seattle, you can take a no name bunch of WRs if you're winning in the trenches...maybe a better question would be, would you rather have EJ healthy throwing to a guy like Britt or 2nd Round Rookie WR, or a hobbled and banged up EJ - if even able to play - throwing to 1st Round Rookie WR? Once you invest in the Tackle position via Draft and FA Guard, you can talk about adding a top round talent at WR, but b/c WR is so deep this year, you'd be getting a normal mid to bottom 1st Round talent in the 2nd Round...a top tackle can save your QB, up your running game, and give the QB time to actually pass the ball...I like Evans, not as much as I value an OT though... -

Not to be too nit-picky about your choice of words but when you say "another playmaker", that would insinuate the BILLS have one?? SJ isn't a playmaker...Dez Bryant, Megatron, AJ Green, Julio Jones, even Randall Cobb to a lesser extent so far...those are playmakers in my mind...guys, who be definition make plays when it matters and make them consistently, guys who can make a catch when it seems impossible and guys who can make it to pay-dirt when it seems they will come up short...SJ has done well overall, but he's also made his share of mistakes, i.e. dumb penalties, fumbles, and yes, the give up on the KC Int return does count....you can love SJ and think the BILLS need to keep him and play him...I respectfully disagree, given his salary and what he does NOT bring to the table...but to say the BILLS *don't need "another playmaker" at WR, is incredulous in my mind, b/c that's EXACTLY what the BILLS need...do they need it at 9th overall?? Probably not this year, but that is just b/c WR is so deep...I certainly think you can wait to Round 2 and maybe Round 3, depending on how the Draft is progressing to get an impact outside, playmaking WR...but don't be mistaken, the BILLS could use one... -

+2....I just wish more people "got it" when it comes to TE...fans see Graham and Gronk and assume that means 1st Round TE, but then fail to see that neither of those guys were 1st rounders...moreover, the better TEs over time, Gates, Witten, Graham himself, and the new-comers in Julius Thomas and Jordan Cameron were all 3rd and 4th round guys...just say, Fiedorowicz in the 4th... -
Problem is, that stats and history aren't on your side when you take a TE in the 1st, let alone top 10...best thing the BILLS can / should do, is wait to the 3rd or 4th Round a grab a guy like Fiedorowicz, who has solid but not eye popping stats and had a good but not great Combine...showed strength and some agility...that's the kind of guy who would do well in Buffalo...the Graham type, just doesn't translate well to Buffalo...at least not currently...and, Fiedorowicz type of TE allows you to disguise run or pass...IMO

I would prefer to Draft a big WR in Round 1 or 2 and then Draft the Iowa TE, Fiedorwicz (spelling?), in the 3rd but preferrably the 4th.... +1 -
BEAST!!! He'll NEVER make it 9, but if he does...you sprint to the podium hoping you don't trip over your own wagging tongue!! And then do a happy dance, uncorking the champagne....

And no doubt good fortune plays a part in all things successful...just somtimes, I think we as fans tend to give little credit to other organizations when they do well because we're too busy pressing the sour grapes between our teeth...that's not to say Seattle has it "all figured out", but IMO you can't look at that roster and not give serious credit to their ability to Draft talent and sign UDFAs when you see who contributed to the wins...for God's sake, the Super Bowl MVP didn't even get a Combine invite the year he went Drafted...that's good scouting and information followed by solid coaching... I believe the BILLS can replicate something just like that, now that Whaley and Marrone, et. al., are taking the reigns and yes, I read the piece that said the younger guys want to change things while the "lifers" are resistant to such changes, but in the end, you can only judge the organization by the product on the field...and while they didn't improve their record, there are few fans who didn't see dramatic improvement in just what was taking place on the field on Sundays, despite the QB carousel and some key injuries... All that said, this Franchise is running out of excuses and next year is truly a key year in reinvigorating the fan base and demonstrating palpable evidence of a winning organization coming to maturation....

I don't think that's luck...I think that's good Drafting...

Let's wait til the 2nd for a WR...
BigBuff423 replied to billsgpr88's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He did declare as a Junior, and by his numbers - it all seemed to click this year. So, he probably should have waited, but a big, fast target with good leaping ability and decent hands doesn't hit the Draft often when he can be had in the 3rd round, maybe later seeing as how this Draft is so deep... -

Sorry, but SJ isn't the "Christ" untouchable when it comes to comparing him to up-and-coming talent....does he make catches? Well, yeah...but to say he is irreplaceable is a bit far-fetched in my mind...I don't understand the love for the guy who has done virtually nothing in this town...when he was making catches, he was making stupid penalties...and behaving like a Romper Room child...now, he's been relatively quiet, gets a pass due to injuries and the QB carousel, and everyone wants to over-think what SJ has done lately....I don't get it....there are better and more talented WRs, especially in THIS Draft, to say there isn't an upgrade waiting to be plucked from the college ranks, is lunacy in my mind....that's what the Draft is...potential... And SJ can't ride the coattails of years before production forever, eventually it has to be "what have you done for me lately?"....and to say that he "just gets open no matter who is covering him" might be a bit of revisionist history....he did well against Revis, no doubt...but let's not make that the end-all be-all determination for a WR -

Take a look at Moncrief or better yet Martavis Bryant...those two, would be an upgrade over SJ in height, speed, hands, leaping ability....getting push off the line, I don't know about that, but we didn't even know that about SJ until Gailey got here and actually used him...
