I think some people here have absolute insane expectations for our defense, especially after just 4 weeks where we have seen two of our best defenders missing multiple games (ed and Milano), our 1st round CB not taken a snap, and two major offseason additions suspended for the first 6 games and not playing. LOL. Oh and we have a top 10 pass defense. FACTS: McD defenses have ALWAYS been soft on the run, BY DESIGN! We want you to run the ball. Please, run the ball all you want. We would rather have you run than have explosive pass plays. That. Is. What. We. Want! You will never see this defense have big space eating DTs who are dominant against the run, thats not who we draft, thats not who we sign. Our defense thrives on negative plays and takeaways. We are OK giving up yards because we are hunting for a negative play that puts the opponents behind the sticks at some point and the drive stalls out. We are looking for turnovers, and ALWAYS get them. McD defenses have been causing turnovers regularly since his arrival in Buffalo (and before that). It isn't an accident, it isn't a fluke. It is preached and practiced. It is successful. You know what stat is the most predictive when it comes to wins in the NFL, TURNOVERS! The defense this year has not been as bad as many think. For some reason many have whack expectations. We just held a team to under 20 points and under 300 total yards, under 150 passing yards. You do that and your going to win every game. It does not matter who the opponent was, its a week to week league and every team is going to give us their A+ effort. Against the Patriots We will do what it takes to win the game. Will they run on us? Sure, see above. Will we get a turnover, and likely a timely one, Sure, see above. It doesn't have to look pretty, it just has to get the job done.

You mean the defense that held the opponent to under 20 points, under 300 total yards (only 126 passing) and held them to 5-15 on 3/4th downs? Or the defense that has shown for 8 years now that they continuously take the ball away?
-
Didn't say it was going to be easy. I said bills win by 10.
-
Cam wasn't going to make the team over Ray or Ty. You can use hindsight and say "look how ineffective Ray Davis has been", but that wasn't on their mind at the draft, and likely still isnt. Seems like YOU think they need an upgrade at the RB room, but I don't think the team views it (and definitely didnt view it then) that way.

TO 2 there was only 10 guys on the field, and it led to stopping their 2 point conversion. Not necessary?
-
outside of QB, pass rush is the most premium spot in the NFL. Take a DE or 2 in the draft every year IMO. We are more than fine at WR and RB.

Game will be won in the trenches. Hopefully Brown is back and him sitting yesterday was precautionary. Hopefully Ed is back and not completely ineffective like we saw the last time he came back from a high ankle injury and played through the residual pain/limitedness. Establish your will on offense like we have been doing for the most part (2nd quarter yesterday aside). Find a way to get disruption around Maye. More Bernard blitzes, if Milano can go, send him at times too. Taron vs. Diggs is going to be cool to see. Bills win by 10.

Walker has been playing some 1 with Daquan jones playing the 3 when they are on the field together It's been a lot more frequent than just for a snap or two. I am not debating that he IS a 1 tech, just that they have been playing him in that spot with more frequency since Olivers injury. Its interesting.

they havent been that good at it this year You might get 3 of those if your lucky
-
Maybe. Maybe not. Look at the Lions and Ravens game. Lions were running the ball EVERY first down early on, and getting no yards. But they kept at it and by the mid 2nd quarter they were gashing the Ravens for huge gains on every down, including first. Its a philosophy. You may not like it, or agree with it, but it is football 101. I don't think its so much as not risking turnovers as it is imposing your will on the opponent and wearing them down. It works. How games unfold, game script, is very real, and some games you will lean on that run, and sometimes you will lean into the pass. Its been 3 games, we have no clue what this offense will be (other than a chameleon that can beat you any way it decides).

exactly. This is why I am preaching people not to freak out over just 1 / 6th of the season being played.

rewatch on the all 22 and you'll see everything you missed watching it live. He was a very real presence.

and that has happened already with Groot. All im saying is be patient, the "glory numbers" will come.
-
your crazy Groot has not been playing poor There have been pressures. There have been great run defense/setting the edge. Sometimes it is obvious some people don't understand what they are watching. Sacks will come, pressures have been there, its been 3 weeks. Relax. And yes I too want to see him with double digit sacks this season.
-
Gore will not be active unless theres a RB issue. Thats not how the roster construction/numbers work. I fully expect over 10 touches for Davis, even if the game is "close". Ty Johnson will also see an uptick in carries. I would bet heavily the plan is for Cook to get his carries in the first half as usual, except more davis and johnson sprinkled in, and then when the game gets secure it will be the Ray Davis show. Either way, this should be a good week to reduce Cook's load. But there is not a chance we have 4 RBs (5 with gilliam) active on game day. They already are getting REAL TIME reps...which is a great thing. Hairston will be interesting. I would imagine they slowly insert him into games to get him up to game speed.

3rd down defense was a legit problem. As someone pointed out above, Tua did some uncharacteristic things on a few of those 3rd downs where he got out of the pocket/scrambled and extended the play and that led a few first downs out of those 3rds. Yes our third down D needs to be better, and pass rush needs to get home. BUT my point does remain, Tua was held to under 150 yards and half of his 22 completions were at or behind the LOS. That will make the pass rush less effective. -

Yea I saw McD on the sideline saying into the mic "hey Brady, call the 2 yard pass play please" repeatedly last night. So annoying. -

hey guys I just want everyone to know....Tua completed 22 passes for under 150 yards. Do you think the reason we didnt get any pressure or sacks was because all of Tua's throws were at or behind the LOS? I think that contributed to that fact. -
