That's the big one. Facing the possibility that the belief system you've built your identity upon may be wrong is hard. The part that's interesting to me is how little the actual beliefs matter as compared to the group identity. The extent to, and readiness with which so many people will suspend disbelief and unquestioningly adhere to the teachings and orders of a perceived authority figure from their identity group, even when it runs counter to the information available to them, is both fascinating and disturbing. The scary part is that we're all like that to some degree. I think this bizarre "progressive" movement as it currently exists is the product of ambitious people with power taking advantage of those at the far end of the spectrum. I find it easier with each passing day to understand how authoritarian regimes gain support and rise to power.

Prosecutors should start using your argument. "Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, ask not what my case proves, ask how long it took to try. If the Defendant weren't guilty, would my witnesses have testified for 5 hours? If I can't keep it pithy, you must find him guilty." That's powerful stuff.

Notice how none of the lefty trolls polluting these threads will ever say in plain words what dastardly deeds Trump has done that need to be stopped? It's all dishonest euphemisms and platitudes to obscure the obvious. Their accusation in its entirety is that President Trump squeezed the Pres of Ukraine to tell him what he knew about the Bidens' corruption. What makes it "corrupt" is that if Biden was corrupt and it was exposed, it would hurt his bid for the Presidency. That is the deep corruption that our pious boy scouts cannot abide. That's it. No allegations of fabrication, conspiracy, or anything to give the Ukrainian government influence in our electoral process, or in any way compromise the position of the U.S. But because the information comes from another country it's described as "allowing foreign countries to interfere in our elections." It's such blatant bullsht. I'd be embarrassed to say anything so blatantly dishonest, but then some people have no shame.

The longer they carry on the charade the less it matters. They failed to heed the warning of the little boy who cried wolf just as they continue to fail to heed the warning of Lincoln Osiris. This is one of those things where even if President Trump did EVERYTHING they're accusing him of, no one really cares. It's just not that big a deal.

Yeah, political differences really don't matter that much. Often times I actually find it more interesting talking to someone I have some legitimate disagreements with, as long as it's an honest discussion. Gary, Bob, and Tibs will never give you an honest exchange. They have no world view and no critical thinking skills. Their allegiance is not to principles but to a party. They're only worth interacting with to the extent you find it entertaining or can use them to illustrate a point. My favorite leftist is Jimmy Dore. He's a straight up socialist, so I don't agree with him philosophically, but he's a guy who puts his principles above shilling for the Dems, which is really refreshing, especially in the age of TDS. I think you'd like this bit.

Having studied cognitive bias I don't find the behavior of liberals terribly surprising, but still, the level of self-delusion is disturbing nonetheless. To be proven wrong time and again and still march forward with such arrogance boggles the mind. I guess you really can't underestimate the power of denial.

What Are Your Political Leanings?
Rob's House replied to KRC's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I'm a leftist. The issue that is of Paramount concern to me is having Democrats in office. Everything else is negotiable. -
I don't disagree with any of that. What I disagree with is that it would necessarily lead to economic growth. There is no free lunch. It would benefit some to the detriment of others, and you could potentially make the case that the balance of equities falls in favor of debt forgiveness, but in terms of the overall economy it creates nothing.

If money worked this way you could create wealth simply by printing more money.

The Media's Portrayal of Trump and His Presidency
Rob's House replied to Nanker's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
This is a good listen if you've got 45 minutes to kill. Trump Jr. seems like a thoughtful and reasonable guy. I'd like to hear someone give a reason for hating him that isn't based on wild conspiracy theories. -

Where does the 10th win come from?
Rob's House replied to letsgoteam's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's possible but not as likely. Pittsburgh would almost certainly take one WC spot and Oakland would be my guess for the other. They only play one team with a winning record down the stretch. If they finish 9-7 it's likely with the same conference record which would get interesting because our common opponents are Denver (X2), TN, NYJ, and CIN. In your scenario we take a loss at Denver and win the rest. -

Russell Wilson is doing a fantastic Rob Johnson impression tonight. -
This exemplifies why I don't watch pressers. They never say anything.

Where does the 10th win come from?
Rob's House replied to letsgoteam's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's kind of the point. If we lose all 4 of those games we won't make the playoffs, even if we win the other 3. But beating Pittsburgh means more for our chances than any of the other remaining games individually. -

That'll be the deciding game, IMO. If we beat Pittsburgh we make the playoffs, even at 9-7. It's not a mathematical certainly, but the odds are highly in our favor. If we lose that one we likely have to go 4-2 against a line up that includes Dal, NE, & Balt.
