  1. Maybe. It's hard to say until you've been in that position. I had a friend with that mindset who had no qualms about sending the guilty up the river until he did an internship at the public defender's office. He still wanted to be a prosecutor, but had a much different perspective after that experience. Not all criminals, event violent offenders, are truly dangerous people that society needs to be protected from. Some are, but some are not. I too would have reservations about defending someone I thought would pose an imminent danger if released, but that's not always readily apparent, and it's not necessarily ethically or morally preferable to deny that person a good defense, even if you think he belongs in prison. When those cases do arise it's more often a case of mitigation rather than outright exoneration. If they've got the right guy they can usually prove it. If not, subverting constitutional protections to prevent a guilty person from escaping punishment is unethical. Certainly one can choose not to represent a particular client, but it's not necessarily ethical to pawn those cases off on others if you take your duties seriously. It can be a difficult choice with no easy answer. What should always be considered is that the power of the state to prosecute is immense, and if we deny constitutional protections to some, we effectively deny them to all.
  2. If Jim Acosta says he has multiple sources you can take that to the bank. And by bank I mean landfill.
  3. Practicing criminal defense carries deep responsibilities that put one in a unique position to do things they may find distasteful in order to serve a higher purpose. If you determine that only the innocent are worthy of a legal defense, you undermine the entire criminal justice apparatus, and constitutional protections of the accused go by the wayside.
  4. I can make the case: We called him a racist, sexist, misogynist, homophobe, rapist, pervert, foreign operative, and traitor, and you still support him. What more do we have to make up before you'll open your eyes?
  5. Glad I'm on record questioning Bolton's motives/honesty prior to this. Funny how Dems who thought he was a lying POS now hold him up as a great man of the utmost integrity.
  6. The normals don't care about any of this. When the House voted to impeach I had people call me to ask what it was all about. They had no idea the impeachment inquiry was going on.
  7. If you set aside the lies and just look at how effectively he framed the Democrat's case and delivered their message, he did a pretty good job, but it was nothing special or extraordinary. This is about the equivalent of calling Rob Johnson's week 17 outing against the Colts a legendary performance.
  8. But the purpose of the memo isn’t to convince reporters, it’s just to get them to fall in line with the Democrat narrative. . I came to post the same article. Reposting to make sure everyone sees it. It really slams the door on the Biden/Burisma/Ukraine bullsh!t. https://johnsolomonreports.com/joe-bidens-conspiracy-theory-memo-to-u-s-media-doesnt-match-the-facts/
  9. This is good advice, even for those who don't need any advice.
  10. What I believe that means is that it doesn't matter if the Kulaks we persecute actually are the oppressors, just that it would be morally sound to persecute them if they were.
  11. His lack of humility is implicit in his declaratory statements that hinge on the premise that the people he's speaking of are all racists, which (not coincidentally) is also his conclusion.
  12. She's an idiot. There were no Confederate flags (and what would it matter if there were?) and there were cops everywhere.
  13. Did anyone ask him what group of people don't believe their culture is preferable to others? The only group I can think of are white American liberals, who are unironically leading the assault on traditional white American culture.
  14. TH3 makes JA look like John Stuart Mill.
  15. They might actually have him this time on constitutional grounds. I was reading the Constitution and came across a rarely cited provision. Artice II, Section 5, Clause 2: "No man shall be elligible to hold the Office of the Presidency who, from the day on which the Electors shall give their votes, and continuing from the first assembly of Congress following his Execution of his Office, for a period of one year in time of peace or two years in time of war, remains in a state of bad while orange." I hate to say it, but I think he's fu¢ked.
  16. I don't like the sanctimonious exit diatribes either, but you can't go out like that after all these years. Plus, we need you here. An ancient philosopher & historian, I think it was Thucydides, once said "with great power comes great responsibility." You have a responsibility to bring self-awareness to those poor lost souls who stumble into these realms completely oblivious to the fact that they're idiots. No one else here has the power to disabuse them of their delusion as effectively and concisely as you. And I think I speak for everyone when I say, even though you're an insufferable, curmudgeonly bastard, you're a very intelligent and erudite poster, and we've all been very lucky to have you here.
  17. As far as doxing goes, if it were up to me we'd have a zero tolerance policy. Anonymity is one of the things that makes this board great. We have frank & open discussions about controversial topics, and anonymity allows everyone to freely state their true and honest opinions without fear. In today's world that can be dangerous. Even posting honest, legitimate points of discussion can be a career ender to people in certain professions if they were to come to light. See @jackmurphylive. WRT criminal background, I don't see any reason why anyone's background makes any difference here. I don't see how someone's odd proclivities, even if potentially dangerous in the real world, poses a threat by posting on a message board. It's not like this is a spot where a pederast would go to pick up young kids. I say let the posts speak for themselves.
  18. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/01/the-us-isnt-as-important-as-the-left-thinks/604642/ "The United States has done terrible things in the Middle East. To even casual observers of the region, this should be clear enough. That, however, doesn’t mean there is a moral equivalence between Iran and the United States. Elevating America as a somehow unique source of evil takes necessary self-criticism and turns it into narcissism. It insists on making us the exceptional ones, glorifying ourselves by glorifying our sins. To suggest that American officials are at the rarefied level of the deliberate, systematic mass murder and sectarian cleansing that Soleimani helped orchestrate isn’t just wrong; it’s silly."
  19. Looking like Texans vs. Oilers in The AFC Championship game.
  20. Tyreek Hill's having a rough day. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
  21. If I had a radio show I'd do a parody song of ol Jerry called "I'm a Meat Watcher" to the tune of the O'Kaysions "I'm a Girl Watcher."
  22. The announcers are as disappointed as the Ravens.
