  1. The media's been looking the other way on the economy for 4 years. Anyone who remembers W's first term, and was paying attention, remembers an ongoing national crisis over 6% unemployment. Then when we went into recovery all the talk was of a jobless recovery. And acknowledgement of the reality that the recession wasn't of Bush's doing was quickly dismissed by people like Brian Williams by explaining that right or wrong we attribute what happens to who's in office at the time. Funny how just a few years later that standard & those concerns have changed so dramatically.
  2. I want to thank you because, while your regurgitation of debunked neo-Keynesian theory (because even Keynes knew that what you're peddling is bull ****) was less than informative, it helped me to understand something that has perplexed me for some time. Particularly, how people who understand investment enough to work in the field can be so clueless about how the economy works. Now I get it. You understand how the money flows through the system & how that effects one business or industry relative to others, but are completely unaware of the impact it has on the back end - on the money supply, currency valuations, stability - basically the economy overall. It's unfortunate because it seems you have the intellectual capacity to understand, but your arrogance in your belief prevents you from seeing anything you don't want to see.
  3. I agree with your overall sentiment, but he's also had 2 sacks in his last 3 games. That doesn't mean I'm ready to crown his ass.
  4. While I agree with you, I think Fred plays that role well. He's not an Alstot style battering ram, but he runs strong up the middle and is shifty between the tackles. I do think a battering ram would be nice though.
  5. This is his 4th year. Played his 1st 2 in TB & came to Buffalo last year. He was pretty skinny when he came into the league. He's put on about 10 lbs which, along with experience, might explain his ascent.
  6. +1 I was about to start a resign Mclovin thread. The guy is a beast on returns & is finally becoming a halfway decent cb. Probably won't break the bank either.
  7. Division win. Strong showing by the D 2nd place in AFCE This was a good night.
  8. The theory isn't based on MC = price. And the check kiting thing was a metaphor; I thought that was pretty obvious. The point that seems to elude you is you essentially stole the money to make the plane & took scarce resources that would have been otherwise allocated had you not taken it here. I get the whole process you describe, you're just ignoring the void it creates on the other end. It assumes the money that was created out of thin air has inherent value all it's own. You can't get around the reality that you just traded a plane for a bag of confetti. In the grand scheme of things buying that plane with money printed out of thin air is no different from buying it with counterfeit money.
  9. I think Darin's style is perfect for this forum. In a lot of ways it's self moderated. I've visited other boards where the squabbling and name calling dominate the forum. Here there's usually thoughtful discussions with the occasional dust up. I like it, that's why I keep coming back.
  10. No thanks, we're good. Most of the people who need to be moderated are run off pretty quickly anyway.
  11. Props for giving an answer that's intellectually honest and consistent.
  12. You're assuming that the marginal cost to get to 100% utilization rates is $0. There's no other way you could assume throwing money to create demand would be useful. There are additional costs required to produce more, even if you're below max utilization. If you give me a check written off an account with no money in it to buy the additional production, I've incurred greater cost, you've gotten utility & I've gotten nothing in return. But say I go to the bank of government & they cash my check. The loss is still a loss, it's just been passed off to the society at large and spread out across the economy. Now that's fine when you're spreading one man's loss across 300 million people. But when you honor bad checks that add up to a trillion+ $$ the **** tends to hit the fan & there's nothing you can do to remedy that because all you did was artificially manipulate the money supply. That can work in the short run, but just like the tide, currency valuations will naturally recenter & calibrate (correct themselves) & that is called a recession. Although, if you !@#$ with it hard enough the consequence is more severe and you get a depression that is long, deep, & brutal.
  13. Think about it. You're a reasonably intelligent guy (for a lib), you can figure it out. Think about how this would work in a barter system & see if it doesn't become clear.
  14. Just out of curiosity, Did Bush's transcripts and medical records or Romney's tax returns freaking matter?
  15. Calling someone racist isn't another point of view. And then he cries like a pu$$y when someone calls him out.
  16. Coming back to this, what you said here exposes the underlying flaw of the demand driven economy theory. It's premised on the marginal cost of production being $0.
  17. Yea, it could be that. Or it could just be that it's annoying to have mindless dolts who can't debate on an even playing field throwing out baseless charges of racism as a substitute for anything intelligent or interesting to say. I'm wondering if I claimed that you fu(ked your mother and it pissed you off, would your anger be an indication that I hit close to home?
  18. I'd tell you what I really think but I don't want you to cry again.
  19. This one line tells us everything we need to know about you. Let me guess, we'd all have it made if only the rich people weren't hoarding all the money? There are ways. You don't want to know about them.
  20. I read something about this recently & the guy suggested giving criminals the option of a cane lashing for every 6 mos of jail time. (4 lashes or 2 yrs, your choice) Sounds pretty reasonable. It would save a lot of money on jails, minimize the impact a jail sentence has on a family, is really effective, doesn't take irreplaceable stretches of a person's life, and the best part is it's voluntary. Of course Dicky doesn't like it; he's all about saving people from making decisions.
  21. Democracy is only as good as the people doing the voting, but you already knew it. It's not democracy you're happy about, it's that your team won. If the electorate had voted to reinstate slavery I don't think you'd be touting its virtues.
  22. You're a pathetic excuse for a man. How did you learn to be such a loser? I never understood why we got into WWI either. With WWII there was the matter of Pearl Harbor.
  23. Yes, because morons are happy to have someone tell them they can have their cake and eat it too. I wasn't posting here in 2008, but after that election I had countless libs tell me that Beloved Leader would be the savior of the economy. I told them, with great confidence, that in 4 years things would be worse. I was right, they were wrong, but they still believe because they want to. And Obama will continue to !@#$ up and you will continue to make excuses for him.
  24. Why the He'll would they? They were all from the North. Their homes were not under attack.
  25. None of this is accurate. On the issue of economics the Republicans have actually made gains. I'll take your points one by one: 1. No one says this. Acknowledging that the business cycle is cyclical, government doesn't have much power to change it, & attempts to do so will be counter-productive is merely stating an obvious truth. You would rather they lie & blow smoke up everyone's ass? 2. Who does this? No one is saying people who worked their whole lives are no good bums. Pointing out that unsustainable entitlements need to be reformed is another obvious truth. There are however, a lot of no good bums collecting a check who haven't worked their whole lives. Should they pretend this is virtuous? 3. This is just silly. Choosing not to demonize & destroy is not equal to kissing the ass of. And your Steve Jobs example suggests you'd prefer an authoritarian form of mercantilism. Granted, the Obama message of "pay no attention to the cliff we're approaching. Stepping on the gas is fun now" worked in this election, but if you're going to sacrifice the country to get elected, what's the point of being elected?
