  1. I don't think he's deserving, but Donte Whitner certainly thinks he is. Or at least he wants to be paid like one. It's the top players in the game today. Today is the year 2011. http://top100.nfl.com/
  2. NFL network is airing a list of the top 100 NFL players today as voted on by the players. The Bills have 0 players on this list. The only other team with 0 players on this list is the Seattle Seahawks, who ironically made the playoffs last year.
  3. Newton is a game changer. That's why they drafted Spiller last year. If the draft is so deep at DT, why draft one @ 3? I think Newton will be the pick. I hope he can learn to read defenses.
  4. I liked Fitz a lot last year too. But think back to that KC game last year. Remember that awful interception he threw before the end of regulation? Manning/Brady/Brees do not throw passes like that. These things happen too often with Ryan Fitzpatrick. You can't teach accuracy. That's why he's not an elite QB. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think the Bills will draft Cam Newton @ 3. I bet they think Newton is a game changer. That's why they drafted Spiller, because he's a threat anytime he touches the ball. If DT is as deep in the draft as they say, why waste your #3 pick on it when you can grab one in rnd 2? Fitz has given the Bills the luxury of letting Newton develop for a year before starting.
  5. name me the Bills players in the last 10 years that looked like busts initially then suddenly became great
  6. They did the same thing the year they drafted Lynch. Which is exactly why I too think Clausen at #9.
  7. They're looking for someone at the #9 pick who can start from day one. Buddy Nix said so himself in the draft luncheon. If Charles Brown cannot start from day one at LT, then he won't be picked at #9 if he's available. This doesn't mean they are definitely picking LT. They have way too many holes to be married to a specific position at #9. They're picking best player available who can start day one at #9. If they pick Clausen at #9 (I hope they do), then plan on Clausen starting on day one.
  8. I like Gailey's talk of "the only way I know how to win is through hard work", versus "it's really hard to win a game in this league". Gailey appears to be backing up his talk. I want to believe it will produce results.
  9. That was 20 years ago. Live in the present. It's a quarterback league. Look at all the playoff teams and you'll see good / great quarterback play. Go ahead and tell me about Sanchez. I'll point to every other team in the playoffs. Let's start by getting the Bills to the playoffs before we start planning the Super Bowl victory party. One step at a time.
  10. I love the dilfer and brad johnson arguments. There are 20+ examples of good/great QB play winning in the playoffs and the superbowl. There are 2 examples against good/great QB play. Don't you think it's easier to just get a good/great QB than trying to get great at EVERY other position on the field and then hoping your QB doesn't make a mistake? It's like trying to make really good money working minimum wage jobs. Can it be done? Yes, but you'll have to work 80 or 90 hours a week to get it done. I'd rather get a better paying job and work 40-50 hours a week and have free time to enjoy with friends/family.
  11. I agree with Cowherd. I think we'll grab one of the top 2 QBs. Think about what happened while Buddy was in San Diego. When they knew they needed a QB, they addressed it immediately in the draft. I believe he'll apply the same logic in this draft. I'm good with Fitzpatrick starting on day one if Bradford/Clausen is on the roster.
  12. They'll go either QB or LT with their first round pick. They know they have this draft and next year's draft to address both. It will just depend on who's on the board and if better talent will be available next year. Personally, I'd like to have the QB of the future on the roster for a year learning the system, vs. having a rookie start and expecting to win. The Bills aren't going to be good next year. Anyone that expects them to be over .500 is living in a fantasy land.
  13. The best move Gailey & Co. have done so far is cutting all the special teams "aces". This tells me they're committed to actually developing players, instead of wasting roster spots to have one of the top special teams units in the NFL. The win/loss records of the top 3 special teams units tells me how important it really is. Things may be actually changing over there. I still throw the Missouri flag at them.
  14. i like bulaga at 9. i'll be hoping for tony pike in round 2.
  15. if it was all about players, then you could field a roster of players that just graduated college and be just as competitive. players need to be taught and developed at this level. they don't do all that stuff by themselves. this is where coaching comes into play.
  16. our old friend Tim Graham makes mention of this very point in his story http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4838361
  17. the fact that he is linked to cowher is way more interesting than the news conference itself. it deserves its own thread.
  18. Just heard on the radio that Gailey was going to be Cowher's OC and assistant HC. That's the most encouraging thing I've heard all day about him.
  19. sully is right. it's embarrasing to be a bills fan. i am on the brink of giving up on this team for good. buddy nix better be the best drafter since bill polian. say what you want about the sabres losing briere and drury. at least that team is one of more respected teams in the league. the bills are a joke in their league. what a shame.
  20. i'd be thrilled with marty as the HC. he's not a re-tread. he's a proven winner. and i'd love it if his son came with him too. he also has a track record of knowing how to develop a rookie QB. part of me is nervous about cowher as HC. i wonder if he's more concerned with cashing a big check instead of building a winner. look at his demands - does that sound like a man that is motivated to win and really believes he can win no matter what? the fact that belichick is in our division and the chance to prove that you're a better coach than him 2x a year should be motivation enough. instead, cowher comes off as a guy who is trying to maintain his image, instead of trying to add to it.
  21. Bill Cowher to Bills (e3) more to come...
  22. I was going to post the exact same thing. That's hilarious.
  23. Billick in 2007 was a train wreck. Dick Jauron beat him. He was worse at coaching that day than DJ. That is more than enough ammo for me not to hire him. My wish list has Cowher #1, Marty Schottenheimer #2. Anyone other than those 2 guys would be a complete disappointment.
  24. You really believe DJ thought his job was on the line? He just signed a new 3 year 9 mil contract with Ralph Wilson. DJ was retained after that horrific finish last year because he was owed too much $$. No way DJ thought Ralph would eat 6 mil for the next 2 seasons if he didn't produce. I'm sure he figured he had one more year on top of this one at the least. If I was DJ, I wouldn't have been concerned about my job at all heading into this year.
