Pro Day Results Tracker - Measurements and Athletic Testing
BADOLBILZ replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah I am not sold on Toney as becoming a WR1 so I wouldn't go round 1 on him. I think he plays 4.5 speed on the field and he's so raw as a WR that it squares up as a likely disappointing pick at 30. Not Dyami Brown either.........though in the 2015-2017 drafts yes he'd be a top 30 player because of the positional value and lack of quality at the position. I think his ceiling is below that of an Emmanuel Sanders........and with such an influx of young talent into the league veteran talents like Sanders are going to be available for reasonable rates in UFA for the next several years and I want my 1st round pick to be a potential $20M guy. Marshall I like at #30 because he could develop into a WR1 guy.........coming into the season he was the guy I was hoping the Bills could end up with......and he was terrific when he played.......but I don't love it as much now........I don't think I would pass on Eichenberg or Rousseau for him in a draft with so much talent at WR. -
Again: Passes over 25 yards in 2020: Aaron Rodgers 47% Russell Wilson 41% Josh Allen 33% Leaving just those 5-6 very big passing plays on the table is a lot.........in the same way as the difference between 5 sacks or TD's versus 10-11 is a lot........it's a league full of small stats that are very impactful. And for all the talk about completion %..........that doesn't even tell the whole story. Go back and watch the Cover 1 youtube review of the game at NYJ as a good example............Allen had a busted coverage throw to a wide open Kroft that was caught but it came in so hot that Kroft lost his balance after the catch.........he also tucked the ball on some wide open deep shots in that game that a QB like Aaron Rodgers (whose level Allen aspires to) throws every time. Missed big plays and more wear and tear.

Bills prospect OT Liam Eichenberg
BADOLBILZ replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The much more important aspect wrt drafting him in round 1 is that he's not a LT prospect, IMO. The part about him playing past the whistle is just part of his comp to Ford..........who has been a disappointment to say the least. -

Yeah I actually think that late first thru the second round is a place where a lot of mistakes could be made.........there are some guys in this draft that should absolutely go in the first..........but then there is a drop-off where I don't see much difference in risk/reward/value between the next group and guys that could end up going on day 3. I'm not a fan of the gadget guys early..........I know a lot of fans are.........but just because we want a Tyreek Hill doesn't mean the Bills can just go get theirs. If you believe the way mock drafts are being set up round 2 is full of them. The hype is out of control. Dri Archer ran a 4.26 at the combine and had a much more productive college career than Rondale Moore.......with the Tyreek-mania nowadays..........he would probably be rationalized as a Bills target at 30 if he was in this draft. Will be interesting to see if the NFL teams have a more realistic outlook on these undersized guys than the fans do. -

As @GunnerBill said........it's just a very deep draft. -
Yeah last season they were missing that one guy on both sides of the ball. This year might be different but their approach to team building has been a little different than KC's...........the Chiefs have aimed high athletically in the draft and went out of their way to keep the controversial Tyreek Hill and paid big for the likes of Clark and Mathieu and Sammy Watkins.........and enough of those decisions have panned out that it causes big matchup problems for a team like the Bills.
-
This isn't MLB.......low number stats/sample sizes matter in a very short 16-17 game season matter. Like TD passes thrown per game. Only 10 QB's even reached an average of 2 per start last year in a historic season for offense. A lot of big stats in the NFL are things that a great player only achieves just once or twice per game. Hitting on just 5-6 more deep balls per season might be the only difference between Allen being an NFL MVP and just being a top 5 QB...........connecting on just 1 more can be the difference between winning a game and losing it. I'm certain Allen is working on it this offseason......he was the worst at in 2019.........per the NFL's own stat service he was 14th last season..........this year I anticipate that he will be one of the best at it and then nobody will be talking about small sample sizes or diminishing the value of these big plays.

WR Jacob Harris had an attention grabbing performance at UCF pro day: 6'5" 219 81 1/4" span 40.5" vert 15 reps 11'1" broad 4.39 40 4.28 shuttle 6.51 3 cone ...........and still probably goes undrafted. Quite a promising WR class this year. -
Bills hosting OT Le’Raven Clark

Like I said, don't expect a quote from him, he was pretty clear about that. -
That's just jibberish. As I noted above........the accuracy difference between Aaron Rodgers and Josh Allen on throws over 25 yards in 2020 was 14%(47% versus 33%)..............while the difference on all throws total was just 1% (70% v 69%). One guy is great at the deep ball........the other is middle of the pack. There isn't a physical reason why there should be such a discrepancy between the two QB's on deep throws. It's not random and not just a case of "everyone is inconsistent"..............that's just you trying to shout down a discussion with an unsupported observation. As I've said about your takes........

The last time the Bills picked at #30 in the draft...

Any Doug Flutie fan should have known that the USFL started in 1983 not 1975. -
Yeah again, I don't consider a 21-25 yard pass a deep throw for Josh Allen.........as I said he's the best in the league in that range because he can throw a 25 yard pass on a rope. In subsequent yardage subsets he ranks: 26-30 20th 31-35 11th 36-40 5th( the smallest sample size) 41 and over 20th. So on throws of 26 yards and over he had a 32% completion %. By contrast Aaron Rodgers had a 47% completion % on those throws. Russell Wilson was at 41%. Allen is no longer horrible at the deep ball.....that was never in question....... but he has a lot of room to improve..........those numbers pass the eye test. The question is are the Bills helping Allen by trying to keep the WR corps so limited to guys who do their best work in the short to intermediate range where Allen has had great command of the ball.............or should they complement the group with a talent that can help him be better at the deeper throws?
-
I think it's the offseason and we are getting carried away with the singularly decisive declarations. Could an improved Cody Ford help? Sure. But he's not going to be "the key".........just like 12 personnel is not the key to "unlocking" the running game and so forth.......the running game wasn't totally locked up there is just room for improvement. They have the capacity to improve in a number of areas and some of it could be new players, returning vets improving(like Ford or Dawson Knox).......or scheme adaptations etc.. It's not likely to be one player anymore than that was the case in their ascension last season. Last year the OL improved.......the scheme changed.......Diggs and Davis were added........all in addition to Josh Allen making one of the greatest QB improvements ever. A lot can be improved.

The last time the Bills picked at #30 in the draft...
BADOLBILZ replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The draft was pretty casual then. Sometimes George Allen would trade the same pick to multiple teams and let them sort it out. -
The funny thing is that the Patriots defense has been about as good against the Chiefs as any since Mahomes got there............and it's not the talent.........it's because they can alter their approach for their opponent. One of the problems the Bills ran into defensively last season is that they are in year 4 of running a defense that is not "multiple" like the Pats.........and after 4 years of running the same looks teams now know how the Bills are going to react to them defensively and have a good feel for how to attack them. The biggest improvement they could make defensively might be just adding different looks..........so that they don't just get dissected by the Chiefs the way the Patriots used to tear up the Steelers zone defense in the playoffs year after year. Offensively, spot on, they need real speed. That could be a guy who can provide RAC with his speed. They don't have that kinda' guy. Or.........my preferred route........is add a deep threat WR. If they really wanna' shake things up they should keep an eye on the Russell Wilson situation...........if the Seahawks trade Wilson(as Chris Mortenson insists that they still very well might) then I'd be on the horn with them about DK Metcalf. Seattle just gave Tyler Lockett a huge deal..........maybe in a great WR class they may be inclined re-start the clock on WR2........and be willing to move DKM for the Bills #1, #2 and a #5. You could substitute Davis for one of those picks as well. People might be surprised......but he's only 2 seasons from UFA. He is the counter to a Tyreek Hill. Rondale Moore and Kadarius Toney are relative half-measures in this arm race. Diggs + DKM matches Kelce + Hill.

The last time the Bills picked at #30 in the draft...
BADOLBILZ replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Some people just gotta' argue about everything. It's both inaccurate and misleading. He was on the roster for two other NFL teams after the Cardinals......though he never took a regular season snap. And was then out of pro football entirely for 6 years. He never played in the USFL. He was an assistant coach who they held in reserve to play. It was just weirdly stated like he was an active player that jumped to the QB needy USFL.......again, he never played in an actual pro football game after 1975. -
The last time the Bills picked at #30 in the draft...
BADOLBILZ replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The way that reads it sounds like he had a 12+ year playing career.........in reality he never played pro football again after the 1975 season. -
1) Singletary is actually a solid starting RB.......prior to last season he was generally considered a top 20 starter(in some opinions considerably better) and his numbers are better than you think. Cutting him is a ridiculous suggestion and shows the overzealousness of some fans regarding his play. 2) How will adding another running back "open up the entire field"? And what makes you so sure that guys like Etienne or Harris fit that bill as "dynamic"? Clyde Edwards Helaire was just as good of a prospect and he was basically Devin Singletary 2.0 last year. The reality is that there isn't a lot of "real speed" at the RB position and with 230-260# defenders regularly proving to be faster than guys like Etienne and Harris I wonder why fans keep thinking they are going to scorch the earth in the NFL. The only 1st round RB's that have made a huge impact in the last 20 years were the "generational" talents that went top 10........and only about half of those had multiple elite seasons. Once you get into the range where Harris/Etienne would fall, mid-late in round 1, it's been one disappointment after the next.

Bills prospect OT Liam Eichenberg
BADOLBILZ replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree, so long as that OL projects as a future LT. And Eichenberg fits that bill. He would probably end up as the teams LT before his rookie deal ran out. Everyone assumes that Dawkins will just man the spot for 10 years without drop-off but every good LT isn't Jason Peters. If they get 6-7 good LT years out of Dawkins that would be great and then in steps a guy like Eichenberg who probably has the frame to hold the position down until about the same age at least. In the meantime Josh Allen has a lot of talent in front of him. Jenkins is a bit too Cody Ford-esque for me.......he's a better RT prospect but like Ford I don't think he has LT flexibility and he plays out of control at times and likes to tackle defenders and take unnecessary shots at them which exposes the team to killer penalties(like the critical personal foul that Ford drew in the Houston playoff game). -
No, he was not. @Doc already tried to make up a stat like that. Per NFL's own Next Gen stats Josh Allen was 14th in deep ball accuracy with a 40.6 completion %. I provided a link a few posts ago about a segment NFL Network produced prior to the Colts game that showed the Colts defense allowed 50% of deep balls to be completed on them during the season but that Allen was not good on the deep ball. He is middling at it.........and that is despite the fact that he can throw a deep ball on a line so *some* of those throws are still in his wheelhouse. But the further you get downfield the easier that flat throws become to defend. When it comes to putting air under the ball and dropping it into a bucket like Brady and Wilson and Rodgers are so good at........there has been no telling where the ball will land when Allen lofts it over the defense. It's the next logical step in his progression but he was still scattershot on such throws last year and he declined to attempt some golden opportunities as well because of his inefficiency in that regard.
