Spiller haters take a look at some Bills history
starrymessenger replied to Lenigmusx's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like CJ too. He looks like a really great kid and frankly I'm glad he got paid - if he turns out not to be great investment, thats on the FO because CJs got great attitude and I'm sure is willing to learn and improve. The problem I have, in addition to the oft cited "lack of vision" and "failure to adjust to the pro game" is the lack of burst, for a guy who was supposed to be all about burst. You see it especially on kick off returns, where he should excel. He seems somewhat tentative and I just don't see the explosion you have in good return guys (who are often not high draft choices). That is probably what worries me most. He is not the most dangerous return man on this team. Leodis is. Trouble is Leodis is as dangerous to the Bills as to the opposition. McGee was also better (so far at least) in his day. -
Belichick loves him some Fred Jackson
starrymessenger replied to thewildrabbit's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually the reason he is so good is because he is pretty big (6'1", 215 is not a small back), pretty strong (consistently breaks tackles and gets the extra yards) and fast enough (witness his long run vs the Bengals if memory serves). -
I thought I did say something about a better supporting cast. And by the way the Giants (and Hoststler) beat us was by keeping our offense, and their "world class" defense off the field. Remember? ok ok its Rod Woodson. And BTW its starrymessenger.

Maybe you should have a look at Freakpops post. I didn't see it before posting myself. He probably makes the point better than I did.

The fact that Plunkett was drafted #1 overall is really beside the point. His career had many low points, and this had to do with his play. Rob Woodson disagrees with you. He says, as good as they were defensively, the Ravens owed a lot to Dilfer for their Super Bowl season. Bill Belichik and Bill Parcells both speak glowingly of Hostetler, and for a reason. The point is that a QB with a certain skill set and mind set, though with less than HOF credentials, can do enough to help his team win a Superbowl. Fitz is that kind of QB.
-
QBs with very apparent deficiencies to their game have led teams to Super Bowl victories: Jim Plunkett, Jeff Hoststler (remember him Bills fans), Trent Dilfer. You can win without a HOF QB. With a better supporting cast on both sides of the ball, and a few breaks that every Super Bowl team must benefit from, RF could lead the Bills to a Super Bowl. Not saying that this will happen of course, but it is clearly within the realm of the possible. Not saying either that a HOF QB wouldn't be nice. Just pointing out that it is not necessary.

How I would treat Tom Brady
starrymessenger replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Football is not baseball. If you stop playing hard you expose yourself to injury or you detract from the execution you need in tougher games. Even then, I doubt Pete Rose, and ballplayers like him would agree with your baseball comment generally. Again football is not baseball - when Brady lines up under centre he is facing 11 guys who literally want to kill him, and some of them are quite capable of doing it. His revenge, and his vindication is to beat them like a rented mule. Bear in mind too that when he does that he is setting himself up for more hate and more aggression. Let him stir the pot, it sells tickets and makes the game of football more interesting. He is the bad guy wrestler we all love to hate. Cudos to the great Tom Brady until we are good enough to shut him up. Arther Moats, where are you? -
The Big White elephant in the Room

Wow its Cortland Finnegan. BTW is he black (or just black and blue after Johnson got done with him)? "Finnegan" sure sounds Irish. -

Jets player/trainer cheapshot on punt
starrymessenger replied to ofiba's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hes not only a scumbag, but hes a hypocrite, a coward and a liar (a coward because he is trying to mitigate the punishment, a liar because that really is exactly what the Jets are about). Finns should take his apology and shove it up his @ss (after B word slapping him around the clubhouse for awhile). -

It constitutes a battery at law, with potential civil and criminal law implications. This is not a risk that players knowingly and reasonably assume.I would refer the matter to the local DA just like with the sausages. -
Not saying I want him but

Make sure the tub is empty. I don't know whether he would work out but I've heard the Bills like him and he is from Chan's neck of the woods (ACC). Word is Chan and Buddy like ACC/SEC players. -
White Rhino couldn't get along with Josh. Shame on him. Ha ha.

I hear you, but thats one of the reasons why he might be there in the second. I figure Chan likes his leadership and skill set and feels he can coach him up as he learns how to read from the Harvard professor. -
Agreed. Love what Buddy is doing. PS guys are guys with potential. Look at the good use the Bengals made of the PS two years ago when they were good. Bill Parcells had exactly the same attitude and approach. When he was turning a franchise around he would say that he would just keep bringing guys in until he found some that could play. Ans another teams PS is a good place to find them. Buddy is a pro.

Bills will draft Christian Ponder in the second (if he is there) filling a bigger need with their first pick. -
Peter King Writes Regarding Fitzpatrick
starrymessenger replied to Ghost of Rob Johnson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whenever this teanm has looked good this year, and it has looked very good at times in spite of its losing record, it has largely been due to R. Fitzpatrick (no doubt with an assist from the HC and QB coach). He is 28 years old and may be coming into his own. He knows how to read a defense. Yes, he has a strong arm. Stevie's drop was perfectly placed and in the air about 60 yards. His throws on slant patterns are so hot they got Hardy cut and earned Troy an intercept in the Steelers game. His accuracy is improving. He shows the kind of leadership you see in elite QBs, Rivers, Roethlisberger...(not saying he is in that class of QB of course) I for one would like to see if he is developing and what he could do with a better supporting cast. -

I would be wary of Luck. He appears to have the right intangibles, no question. However, I don't like his long ball (not as bad as Clausen's ducks at ND but of the same ilk) and his throws do not seem to me to have the tight spiral you want to see in a weather beaten place like Buffalo. His short to medium range passes are accurate but I remember Mike Mayock raving about Trent Edwards' ability to drop it in a breadbasket when he was drafted. Sure he plays in a pro set offence and is making NFL reads, but he has been intensively coached up by a former pro bowl QB, so although he may have a head start in terms of being NFL ready there is no guarantee that when at the next level his performance will be NFL excellent. Being "ready" is fine but what you want is a player who will be able to improve his game at the next level - K. Williams being a good example. I would take Sam Bradford over Luck 100% of the time (although I agree the comparison is flawed because we have seen what Bradford can do). -
Bills should pick up vince young
starrymessenger replied to superbills315's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Its true of any position in pro football that physical ability is not enough, but it is especially true of the quarterback position. I think Vince Young has all the God given ability needed to be a very good NFL quarterback and unlike Jamarcus I don't think that he is a weak willed fat slob rip of artist. I think he has a competitive mindset and the will to win. Unfortunately IMO he also has the maturation age of a high strung spoiled teenager. As long as that is the case he will never be able to lead an NFL team. Ryan Fitzpatrick is a leader who has the respect of his teammates. -
Cant agree more with your comment re Dez Bryant. What a playmaker. To think that people questioned his fitness at the combine. What a joke.

Big Wideouts in the 2008 draft
starrymessenger replied to VirginiaMike's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And don't forget Donnie Avery and Eddie Royal, two other smurfs in the same draft that have outperformed the busts. -
He can rush the passer from time to time (if he lines up with his hands in the dirt). Problem is he can't tackle the passer. The comedy begins when he actually gets there. Always good for a laugh.

Ha Ha. Love it. Sort of reminds me of the time the Russian hockey team was playing an exhibition game in Minny. They were guests at a Vikings game against the Cowboys. Victor Tikonov, their coach, was asked at half time what he thought of American football. He said he loved "the fast little ones, for whom the big one's pave the way". During the second half the Russians, who were all wearing these gigantic bearskin hats from Mars, were milling around behind the Cowboys bench. Tikonov walked up to Tony Hill and said "you must nbe one of the fast little ones", to which Hill replied "who the f#ck are you."
