This is why our line sucks. We don't have CRAP. The only guys that may be something are Levitre and Wood. They are decent but people are playing them up like they are future hall of famers. Hopefully they get better and even come close to the hype surrounding them. Hangarter is a mediocre journeyman at center. In combination with him and Trent they couldn't get the protections called right on the line and defenses have been blowing up our run game AND our QBs. The tackles are low budget flyers. One who may never be anything and one who never was. Ya, lets stand pat with what we have unless they are head and shoulders above what we have. Right now I would say that 80% of the backups in this league qualify as that much of an upgrade. Made up number but of course you get the idea. Anyhow same problem we will always have. Until Ralph stops refusing to pay his star players and letting them walk for greener pastures we will continue to be in a perpetual state of rebuilding. Continuing to restock the DB and RB positions draft after draft while occasionally once every 10 years taking a first round shot at another position like, QB, WR, LB , OT or DL. If we didn't have an absolutely miserable failure rate drafting at those positions we might be something. Look at our last 1st round picks at those positions: QB: JP Losman - BUST WR: Lee Evans - Would be STAR on a team with a QB LB: ???? Not this millennium that I recall OT: Mike Williams - MEGA BUST OF THE CENTURY DL: Aaron Maybin - BUST (Still early but not looking good) DL: John McCargo - BUST

With The 1st Pick of The 2011 Draft Buffalo Takes ????
PDaDdy replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ya man. It's crazy when you think about it all in those terms. No wonder our lines, LB core and QB situation are hurting. Just imagine if we used anywhere near 44% of our first round picks on a QB in just the last 8 - 10 years? We would have hit on at least one of them. What a colossal waste. -
With The 1st Pick of The 2011 Draft Buffalo Takes ????
PDaDdy replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is an interesting question. I have gotten our first round pick correct for a few years. Yes, this includes Maybin because I knew we would be bone headed enough to pass on Orakpo. If the front office is anything like the old front office they will look at the fan and NFL analyst consensus top position of need and immediately scratch that position off our list of high pick needs. We will then look at a position of decent depth and look at the available candidates. After doing that we will determine the fan and NFL analyst top ranked player at that position and immediately scratch that player off of our list. We will then draft a project prospect that isn't expected to start his rookie year. I most also add....WHEN IN DOUBT DRAFT A DEFENSIVE BACK!!! Since 1990 the Bills have had 18 first round draft picks. Of those picks EIGHT players ...yes I said EIGHT players...were in the defensive secondary. "WHY?" you say. Because Ralph refuses to pay players that develop into great talent. That's right we have used 44% of our 1st round draft picks in the last 18 years restocking a position that represents 18% of our starters on both sides of the ball not including special teams. That is absurd! What is even more damning is that we have pretty much hit on every one of those DBs and they have become at the least above average to pro bowl caliber players. MAYBE, just MAYBE, if we paid the guys we already had we wouldn't need to keep wasting 44% of our first round resources restocking the same damn position. -
How did promising pre-season go so horribly wrong?
PDaDdy replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Quite simple. Our vanilla offense against their vanilla defense was up to the task. Throw in increased game speed and game planned schemes on defense and Trent was again exposed for not being a gamer. Part of being an NFL QB is getting your o-line into the right protection, changing the play when the defense has the coaches play covered, reading defenses and knowing who your best receiving option is even if it isn't your first read. Trent can't/didn't do any of those things. You really can discern everything you need to know about Trent from how Lee Evans talks around the subject. When asked what does Fitz do differently you look at the praise he AND TO have given for certain qualities and one can easily infer that Trent does not. All those things that a QB needs to be successful and needs even more so in difficult circumstances Trent doesn't have. -
What is there to panic about? He is changing things up to see if he can get something out of the crap talent they have. He is a first year coach. He is not a 3 or 4 year failure who is on the hot seat. There is no panic. The only thing I have questioned about Mix, Modrak and Ralph is that they thought that Edwards was a starter in this league. EPIC FAIL! Now it's just about seeing what they have as the are entering week 3 of year 1 of the rebuilding effort. If you expected more than that you might see this move as panic but you would be way off.

To All Jason Campbell Lovers
PDaDdy replied to daveydanceswithwolves's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Both of those guys are better than Trent so what is your point? I don't think anyone saw Campbell as a savior just an upgrade from Nancy Boy. -
Dog you are right on the money. The planets must be aligned or something because we actually agree. I am reminded of an obscure song by Marylin Manson and the Sneaker Pimps called "Long hard road out of hell". There are sadly no quick fixes but we need to see signs of change and progress. My only complaint possibly is that Chan may have moved too slowly. There was no way this team beats Green Bay but we could have lost looking effective and shown some promise for the future as opposed to an even greater level of failure and ineptitude. I understand the philosophy of throwing out the past and making your own judgment but there was just too much bad game tape and poor stats on Edwards to ignore in my opinion. We are usually duke-ing it out but great post! You make your team better by acquiring talent not getting rid of it. We'll never know but we would have had a MUCH better shot at it.
-
Meta-whining if you will. Whining about whiners. Get over it. He screwed up. He was a piece of dog crap for his actions. He sincerely apologized. He lost the millions of dollars that he had. Served his jail time and wants to go back to work. Get over it!!!!! It is your crowd that won't let it go. We are here talking football and how a really effective and gifted athlete could help this team and you losers keep whining about how he screwed up a few years ago. Let it go!!!!! You clowns don't seem to understand that moving on and accepting his apology do not condone his actions in the past. He has been punished, quite severely in fact. How long would you continue to punish him? Until he is too old to play football? *sheesh* Quit yer bitching.
-
The answer is that obvious. Despite the haters judgmental cries Vick is that good. He was a probowler before he lost it all and he didn't even dedicate himself and study to do it. NOW you have an incredibly gifted game changing athlete who has apparently started turning his life around and dedicating himself to his work. That is a dangerous combination. You know why those catch phrases are neat?....Because they hit the nail on the head Unlike you.....many people don't feel the need to lash out. I don't lash out at drunk drivers, I don't lash out at reformed dog killers, I don't lash out at many people at all. You are not making any sense when it comes to how people should act in support of their beliefs. Whether they chose to take action vocally of physically isn't a true measure of their resolve. Some people can have incredibly strong opinions but have learned to keep them to themselves and stop whining about what they think everyone else has done wrong. Are you complaining that not enough people are calling Edwards an idiot if they value human life, which he did not take, to a dogs? I don't get it. This thread was about the Eagles decided to make the starter going forward.
-
Yes the haters are self righteous. Remember what the "good book" says? "No one is above forgiveness." Remember that part? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't give me the tired line about how you don't believe his apology or he wasn't sincere. That is a BS cop out and YOU KNOW IT! All it is is a loop hole in your moral self righteousness that allows you to sit on your thrown of judgment and scream about what everyone is doing wrong but not actually having to forgive anyone. Anyhow lumping people together is never a good way to go. But the people that feel human life is more important like myself are not out picketing drunk drivers either. Braylon Edwards is an idiot. Donte Stallworth is a murderer. You don't have to scream it from a mountain top and take days off from work to go picket when you see something you don't like. There needs to be a measure of public outcry but most don't take it to the wacko extreme of some that can't get past mistakes, BAD mistakes, that people make and can't shut up about it, move on and forgive after a guy has lost everything and is just trying to go back to work and live his life.
-
Your right. Not exactly how I would have put it and I fear your accurate message will be lost in the delivery. Not going after talent like Vick is exactly why we have stunk for so long. No he isn't squeaky clean but the guy is a difference maker. I used to bang it like a drum in another forum that you don't make your team better by not paying players and letting your best people go!!! We give away probowlers and stars to other teams for draft picks. Our front office couldn't pick a booger. We constantly miss in the draft and get people like Trent Edwards, Donte Whitner, Aaron Maybin, Poz. Guys that are no better than backups, average starters or can't even stay healthy enough to stay on the field. Those are just the guys that play(ed) for us. Don't get me started on the Mike Williams and John McCargos!!!! That's right I called out Poz. Sorry the fan favorite "hope" is so over hyped it is ridiculous. London Fletcher the guy he replaced is still better than Poz and Fletcher CAN STAY HEALTHY! If people have forgotten we actually traded UP in the draft to get Poz. What a waste of resources. Marv Levy was NOT a good GM but he did say something smart. "Sometimes the best free agents you can sign are your own." Our OL is like babys being mauled by tigers and our DL has no more ferocity than new born kittens. LBs? Can't stay healthy and are ill suited to play the 3 - 4 in pass coverage. If that sickens you you should be in the hospital from looking at Edwards stats!!! You seem to have left these guys off of the list Drew Brees Brad Johnson Kurt Warner Brett Favre Notice something about this list? They were all free agents or traded. What else do you notice about this list? They all won superbowls. The list is considerably longer if we remove the superbowl winner restriction.
-
Well that is just ridiculous. By that standard no QB in the history of the NFL has ever had an uncontested starting job. If you suck badly enough any QB will be benched. The more reasonable statement that I made was that Trent had no meaningful competitors and other than a sham of a QB contest in 2010 he was handed the job, uncontested, for 2008, 2009 and in my opinion 2010. You could also make a case that they were just waiting to hand him the job in 2007 because the new coaching staff didn't like JP and his gunslinger ways one bit.

No More Anger Towards The Players & Coaches
PDaDdy replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This has been hit from many angles and your's puts a stronger emphasis on not blaming the players. There are faults there like ignoring the last 3 years of Trent's game footage and expecting something different this year. The blame however really should fall on the front office. Nix is now included in that front office. There are two scenarios that could be at play there. One is that the front office really is that stupid and thought that they could hit the lottery again by developing a practice squad guy into a probowl LT and getting by on overpaid mediocre talent. WE NEED STAR LEVEL TALENT TO COMPETE. This means that Ralph needs to open up the purse. Let the moths fly out and spend some of those gold pieces he has been hanging onto to since the dark ages when he was a little boy. That scenario is about being cheap and putting the bare minimum product on the field to keep the fans interested. The other scenario is that Ralph is preparing for an uncapped 2011. The Bills haven't done crap since free agency as we know it was instituted. Maybe Ralph is stock piling money and preparing for the inevitable dooms day when the Jerry Jones and Daniel Schneiders of the NFL world spend themselves into oblivion. The owners and players are morons. Unless they can get all of their issues worked out EVERYONE will lose money. They are arguing over percentages. What they don't realize is that the whole pie will get smaller as fans lose interest. Fans will lose interest as they tire of the continued squabbles over money and the inevitable lack of parity when wealthier big market owners can buy championships. -
Injuries and eventually stinking so bad he was permanently benched. If I am not mistaken he was the starting QB opening day without a camp "competition" correct? Any idea how I can change a thread title???? Apparently the moderators don't think it is descriptive enough. I was more going for the ya...I'm the guy that said it out loud kind of impact.
-
I know it's not what you were saying exactly. I was being facetious as that statement was embedded in your facts/statement. Edwards was the uncontested starter in 2008 and 2009 that is not even debatable. 2010 he won a sham of a contest in camp and was named the starter to be benched/injured again. I also say he was uncontested as his challengers were left overs Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brian Brohm. JP had the organization go out and spend a highish 3rd round draft pick on a QB blessed by Bill Walsh. As expected that QB was eventually given the job in 2007. There are many similarities in their careers but more differences. Level of support as the uncontested starting QB is one of them. All I'm saying is that to get a true comparison and assessment of how bad JP really did or didn't suck we would have needed to give JP the same support and time to develop. It is 110% possible that JP would have still stunk. We were wasting our time the last few years with Edwards waiting for him to arrive why watching some of the most painful and boring football ever. I guess I would have just rather wasted those years watching JP instead with some excitement and perhaps seeing what he could have become if nurtured during the "formative" years of his career.
-
Do you mean pictures of JP or the actual "posters" that supported him in this forum? roflol
-
Really? Did you find the games you watched any more entertaining with Edwards? Personally I found them less entertaining. Kind of like having each bone in your body broken one at a time slowly. JP was still like getting every bone in your body broken but at least it was merciful and exciting. LOL. I guess you thought we were always "in it" as long as Trent could complete 70% of his passes. Who cares that half of them were behind the line of scrimmage and didn't convert 3rd downs but hey? lol
-
LOL. If Buddy can get anything for him he is THE MAN!!!!
-
SO true. He was anointed by Bill Walsh and had everything handed to him from that day forward. Problem is they handed it to him when he got on the field and the real bullets started flying. Too bad it took Modrak and Ralph 4 years to realize assuming they don't try this again next year.
-
It would be better than what you usually yearn for Eh TREBEK??? LOL. Perhaps if you actually had anything of value to say other than refuting what others say you might be relevant. Give it up dude. In a way I am flattered that you live to belch bile in the threads that I start but it doesn't really give anyone ideas to consider or provide insight or enlightenment on anything other than your own bitterness.
-
Correct. He threw heaters to guys that were 20 feet away from him. He threw fast balls every time. He didn't have enough touch on the really short stuff.
-
Agreed. At least it would have been an exciting punch in the gut. LOL
-
So basically you're saying Losman had 1 year, 2006, to start and finish the season as the starter while Edwards has had 3? *I'm putting an asterisk on the 2007 season as we all know Edwards was drafted in the 2007 season to replace Losman because Jauron didn't like Losman's gunslinger style. We all seem to forget or never knew that Edwards was statistically inferior to JP in 2007 but still got and kept the job. JP had his replacement looking over his shoulder while Trent had free agent fodder that wouldn't make any other NFL roster much less challenge him for the starters job. It's only by Trent's own incredible ineptitude and frequent injuries that he lost his job to guys that couldn't play anywhere else.
-
That ship sailed. I don't think I want to go back down that road. Go back under you rock Leo. All you do is spit venom and offer nothing.
-
I came to the realization that this is the Bills problem when we let Peters go. Normally our SOP is to get players with high draft picks. Develop those players into stars or even probowlers. Refuse to pay them and then continually use high draft picks to restock the SAME positions over, and over and over. We can't get more talent because we are continually restocking at the DB, OL and now RB positions. Occasionally we throw a LB or DE in there and if they don't pan out we are POOCHED for years to come. Wonder why Evans is our only good WR??? He is basically the only one we spent a truly good draft pick on with mention of Peerless who was good but over "priced" and Hardy who was an injury bust!!! Wonder why our D-line is small and weak? Discounting Troupe this year what high picks have we used since Pat Williams on a D-line guy? JON MCCARGO. He was a bust and we have been screwed for years. We seem to keep cranking out DBs though that go on to get great pay checks elsewhere and sometimes even win super bowls though. I hear ya. I would like to see Levi come back. Trade or dump Edwards to make a spot.
