So, let me get this straight....Troy Vincent, the ex-NFLPA president and the 2002 Walter Payton Man of the Year award recipient is a scumbag because he put a hit on JP during training camp.

I agree that a new coaching staff would bring in a veteran to compete, however our FO will remain the same, and I believe we all know how our FO has handled the QB position over the past couple of years. We will probably see a situation similar to when Kelly Holcomb was brought in to compete with Losman. Trent may lose his job around midseason next year, but I see him as the starter for the season opener. Hopefully by the end of the year this conversation will be pointless and we will have other positions to worry about improving.

While Florence looked pretty good on Sunday this is still a big loss on D. This season better not be a repeat of 2007 or it's going to be a long year.

Ahh the Tony Gonzalez fiasco, I completely blocked that out of my memory. I really hope Schouman can come back from that injury though, because like it or not TE will probably be the starter next year even if DJ gets the boot.

With Trent at quarterback a tight end this offseason would have made more sense...but this is the Bills were talking about. I would say that some help on o-line would have been nice, but I think everyone is being a little too hard on our o-line. We have zero depth on the line, but in regards to our starters, the pass protection is a little weak compared to last year, but our run blocking has definitely been an improvement. I'm sure the list will dwindle, but next years tight end class for free agents is looking pretty strong. Just throwing out a few names....Anthony Fasano, Bo Scaife, Tony Scheffler, and Benjamin Watson. The loss of Derek Schouman hurts a lot more then people want to believe. Trent loved throwing to him and he seemed to catch everything thrown at him.

I've competed in both powerlifting and bodybuilding competitions since high school, and with the weight this kid was probably using, there isn't much a spotter can do when someone loses their grip while benching. Think about it, nearly all football programs focus on explosive, low reps, over many sets. With probably at least 225 lbs on the bar, and with the spotter keeping his hands a couple of inches under the bar, when that bar is dropped all the spotter can do is attempt to slow it down and then rerack the bar as soon as possible. The only thing the can prevent something like this from happening is benching in a power rack, and/or buying a pair of spotter extensions. Hopefully he is okay...

Dick Jauron....if the Bills signing a big name coach were an option my answer would be different, but that isn't an option. I would rather have the Bills keep their current staff, and hope that Jauron will learn from all of his mistakes at some point. However, if the Bills finish the season 4-12 or worse, and show no signs of improvement...an assistant needs to be canned and some vets need to be cut.

That was definitely the biggest win last year...and even though KC was terrible it was nice to see the Bills blow a team out for once.

Didnt see matters2003 post....pretty much the same thing. I couldnt think of many off the top of my head so I clicked through pro-football reference and that is it since 2004.

Well under Jauron the Bills have 2 wins against teams who finished the season above .500....in 2007 against the Redskins (9-7)...and in 2006 against the Jets (10-6). In 2005, under Mularkey, the Bills beat the Dolphins (9-7), Chiefs (10-6), and Bengals (11-5). In 2004 the Bills beat the Jets (9-7) and Seahawks (9-7). I would have to say the '04 season was the last season that was truly exciting till the finish...unlike the '08 Bills, this team didnt have to come from behind against teams like the Raiders and Rams. Weeks 11 through 17 the offense was on fire, averaging 36ppg and scoring 30+ in 6 straight games....whereas the Bills under Jauron have scored 30+ only 7 times in 3 seasons.

Your post pretty much sums up the thoughts and feelings of my demographic (18-24) in regards to the Bills. I have been a dedicated Bills fan since around 13 (haven't missed a game), and while I watched the games as a kid, I had relativley no emotional investment in the games. As a 21 year old, my main memories of the Bills have been formed over the past 8 years...there is no optimism...no fond memories of the Super Bowl days. That's why many people my age may seem pessimistic about the Bills...but to us its being a realist.

Over the past 5 years the Bills have had many stretches where they lead fans to believe that they are on the right path, however, they never really improve. Every year they do just enough to keep fans hanging on, all the while remaining mediocre at best. Just look at '04 season where they finished the year 9-7, just missing the playoffs after the season ending loss to Pittsburgh. Everyone thought that next year was the year, and that after ripping off 9 wins in 12 games, the Bills had too much momentum to miss the playoffs in '05. After all, if the Bills could have caught a break against the Jags in the season opener they would have made the playoffs. However, the Bills then go 5-11 in '05 and all hope is lost. That is until the Bills bring in Dick Jauron in 06', and the Bills finish 7-9. There's hope!! The Bills go 5-4 down the stretch...losing to Indy by 1, to the Chargers by 3, and to the Titans by 1. All Buffalo Bills fans are optimistic heading into '07....after all, if they only got a couple of breaks they could have made the playoffs. Hell they competed with the best in Indy and almost handed them their first loss...too bad we didnt catch any breaks in that game. Then in '07 Losman starts the season off shaky and the fans start losing hope....until golden boy Trent Edwards comes in and finishes the season 5-4 as the starter. The optimism lost due to the dismal start of the season is regained.... "if only Trent was the starter the whole season the Bills could have made a playoff run". And dont forget...the Bills competed with the "best" at the time, losing a heartbreaker to the Cowboys...too bad they couldnt catch a break in that game either. In '08 the Bills finally start the season off hot...winning their first 4 games. But just like always, the Bills lose a heartbreaker to the Browns...if only they caught a couple of breaks. Not only do they lose to the Browns in a heartbreaker, but Trent Edwards gets hurt and J.P Losman leads the Bills to a couple of losses. Bills fans everywhere believe that if only Trent was playing during those games (i.e; Jets game), the Bills could have made a playoff run. Sorry for the rant...and I do agree that the Bills seem as if they are on the right track...with our o-line, backs, and young d. But the past says a lot and it seems as if there are 3 constants with the Bills....1.) They always add/lose an equal amount of talent each year...they never improve their overall roster over the offseason. 2.) They have at least one heartbreaking loss a year. 3.) They never improve over the course of the year...they are the most sporadic team in the NFL. They are never consistently terrible or amazing...just average. Finally the Over/Under for people who will read this entire post is set at 2.
