  1. The thing about watching footage is that it is often just highlights of the exceptional plays and doesn't give you a true picture of the player. I watch a ton of college football and watched numerous Arkansas games last year and this year. As I said, he was better last year, yes, but most of his great performances were against lackluster defenses. Also, he clearly regressed this year. Wouldn't you rather have the prospect that has shown marked improvement in his most recent season (Jones comes to mind) over a guy that played one season (with pretty good results) and then regressed a ton the following season? Couldn't the same arguement that we read all the time concerning Fitz and Gailey be used for Wilson where defenses figured out how to stop him and he couldn't adjust? That's what comes to my mind. There is no agruement on his arm strength, he's surely go that, he just doesn't have "it" to me.

And besides, wasn't Jevon Snead considered a first round (top 10ish) prospect going into his senior season as well after one pretty good SEC season? He struggled mightly his Senior year, wasn't drafted and never made an NFL team.

I just "call em like I see em" man. Like you, I watch a lot of college football and saw a lot of Tyler Wilson last season. Based on what I saw from him, I think he has all the tools to be a solid NFL quarterback....IMO a definite upgrade over Fitz. Arm strength, accuracy, touch on his passes, good decision maker, good size for a QB, tough player, good leader, etc...

I think he's gonna be a good one.

  2. There are at least 4 QBs I'd want over Wilson. Smith, Barkley, Murray (if he comes out), and Jones. Bet on Smith being gone before we get a chance to take him, but the other 3 should be in play. I'd much rather have Te'o in the first and Jones in the second. If Te'o is gone, I'd be very happy with Barkley or Murray with our first pick.

Wilson has not done anything in his entire career that would place him as a first round pick. 21/13 TD/INT ratio this season and very unimpressive stats against any team with any Defense whatsoever (I mean, 5 of those TDs were against Kentucky). Last year was a bit better, but most of his really good games were against non-conference "gimme" games and the weaker SEC teams. I would hate this pick as a long term solution at QB.

Watch some footage of his junior year before Arkansas imploded. He was considered by many to be a top QB prospect after the 2011 season, and likely would have been a top 5 pick if not for Luck and RG-III. He was very impressive last season.

  3. A lot depends on how he performs during post season workouts, the combine, senior bowl etc... Given his skill set, and the perceived lack of QB talent in this class, I could see Tyler being picked as early as top 5-10 in the 1st round. If he does not shine during post season events, however, I could see him falling as low as mid-late 2nd round.

Personally, I think Tyler is a great QB prospect whose play declined this season because he was on a horrible team with limited talent surrounding him (and terrible coaching).

  4. If we were to lose the remainder of our games, I could definitely see us sneaking into the top 5. I think Kansas City is very likely to stay at #1, and will probably draft Geno smith with the 1st pick. IMO, there is such a significant drop-off from Geno to the other QB's. I think it would be a good idea to look at the best LB'er available, and then look at QB in the 2nd round.

  5. In terms of upside, I think I'd take Bray over Landry Jones (by a long shot). Landry has a good arm and has good size for an NFL QB, but his football IQ sucks. His passes are quite inconsistent, and he is known for making horrible decisions. He might have the physical tools to play the game, but he doesn't have the "football smarts" to be elite IMO.

With regard to Bray, I think similar criticism might apply to him at this point in his career (poor decision making at times). I do think he is a much more polished passer than Jones already though, and he still has time to develop. Bray would be better served to stay at Tennessee for another year and I think he will.

  6. I'd be thrilled with this draft (although I prefer Wilson to Jones).

Yes, I would also much prefer Tyler Wilson over Landry Jones. I doubt Wilson lasts until the second round, however, after the senior bowl, pro-day workouts, combine, etc... In my opinion, Tyler Wilson is a more complete prospect than Jones....or Barkley for that matter. Tyler has all the tools...just plays on a REALLY crappy Arkansas team.

I'd rather see a CB or another LB in RD 3. I think the D-line is set especially at D-End.

Agreed....I'd prefer the best LB available, or even a safety over a 4-3 DE. I think we're pretty set at that position.

  7. I dont think theres really a point in drafting 2 QBs this year.. maybe one this year and one in 2014. If you draft 2 this year then you aren't instilling very much confidence in the guy whose drafted first.

I think it's more of a reflection of not having confidence in our current back-up QB's.

  8. Glennon.

Has all the arm strength you would ever want, and is of ideal size for a NFL QB, his decision making skills and accuracy on his throws are highly erratic. I wouldn't touch him in the first half of the 1st round. Although, if the Bills drafted a stud LB in the 1st, I would be thrilled with a trade-up to grab Glennon.

  9. Not to sound insensitive but I've had coaches do just as bad if not worse. And sometimes it's needed to get the players attention.

I've had some pretty rough coaches too, but this jerk went waaaaaay over the line. He basically told 5 of his golfers that they were worthless, with no chance of improving. Good motivational tactics.

  10. Do they even have room to sign another for 2013? Is Jimmy counting on multiple guys leaving for the NBA

They do have room for one more, and it's my understanding that they have someone specific in mind. I think they are counting on a couple of players (MCW, DC, RAK, Fair) leaving early for the draft.
