  1. remember the days before legal tampering? that was riveting. at 4pm it would just be mass headlines of all these players signing out of the blue.
  2. When were we major players in fa before? Miller? Wasn't he signed later in the fa period?
  3. A. it's not a black/white issue. There are multiple levels to the onions 2) Gun violence is a specific problem in some communities not a national problem iii. Any statistic is only 97.36% accurate on topical face. Also, final post here. 12+ hours after the issue. The perps haven't been named, the national story will be dropped in a few days, this will be forgotten quickly because of the narrative being false.
  4. We can't put him in the same sentence as Brady. Not unless he does another decade and multiple rings.
  5. Brock Purdy is so interesting to me. In 5 years what we will be seeing from him. I think it is worth it to get a 3rd or 4th round simply to develop them and recover a comp pick while having a backup QB.
  6. there is no political opinions that were there. it was a response based upon statistics. facts are not opinions. a majority of gun deaths are suicides. Less than 2% are accidental. Somewhere around 40% are homicides. Of those I would have to check again but a small number are considered mass casualty events (4+ deaths) on the standard metric. Stanford had lowered that to 3+, IIRC. Further, of the roughly 40% of homicides, at least half are obtained illegally. The ATF put out a very flawed and critiqued report when they offered the most recent data which put in untraceable firearms in the same category as stolen guns and "other deadly weapons of destruction." Further, less than 15% of the shooters in homicides showed no propensity towards violence or a criminal background. Bringing it back up to simply gun crimes/violence; roughly 3/4 of those committing those infractions already possess arrest/criminal records. Regardless, these are important factors. They're not political statements. Recidivism, treatment of crime and mental illness, as well as an examination of the causation of crime/violence are pertinent to the discussion. There are some alarming numbers of gun violence % if you remove the 6 biggest cities in the country, those cities all posses some of the strictest gun laws in the country mind you. people flock to believe anything that confirms their bias. someone mentioned it upthread i believe. you're more likely to be bit by a person in central park than by a shark in the ocean.
  7. there is no use replying to this post. we disagree.
  8. i'll dive into this. i know the whole thing about more gun deaths than car wrecks is not accurate but often pushed misleadingly. remove suicides by gun which are over 50% of gun deaths and the numbers change drastically. the mass shootings information may have some flaws. the fbi database is pretty skewed, as well.
  9. mcdermott took a young roster and had it grow. a bunch of lesser known talents, unknowns, and a raw prospects develop - Poyer, Hyde, several OL, Milano, Wallace/Jackson/others. Allen panned out, Knox had a few solid years. Campbell took many blue chip players and really struck gold after decades of missing with that franchise. I think that is something to include in the conversation but just not sure where it fits.
  10. i don't think anyone expected the Bills to beat the Bengals that day. I also think the Chiefs were so beaten by us that they had no chance to be the hyped up and dialed in Bengals. I am at the point where the more I think about what do to I get caught up and trip do not want to think anymore on it.
  11. i'm sorry i can't even begin to fathom someone using Star Wars as an argument in their statements. The Constitution could be amended but our representation is too busy trying to divide us than work together to find solutions. Our leadership is too busy ruling by executive fiat vs taking the reigns to direct our country. Our only salvation is the judicial system which keeps things working slowly because they understand that solutions of sweeping change are best made with deliberate, sane, and processed thought instead of grandiose pen and paper memos, social media photo ops, and soapbox sermons.
  12. I have to give it to Taylor as better because he has succeeded against McDermott when it matters most and beaten the Cheifs with Reid, Spagnola, and Bienemy. I think Campbell has done as much as McDermott with lesser talent but only by slightly. The Lions 2023 roster on offense was pretty stacked but the Bills 2020 and 2021 roster was just as stacked. Campbell reminds me of McDermott by failing when it matters but I give respect to him for having the guts to go for it
  13. Brees has a very pass friendly offense on a team that put almost all of their efforts into offense. Great WRs, good TEs, and useful RBs. That helped a lot. Where is testeverde on your list?
  14. Still on the dope meds, eh? Glad it went well.
  15. I'm all for drafting one in the 3rd or 4th. In a draft like this where there isn't a major market for QBs or hot commodity potentials we can take a flier and find a 4 year backup for Josh.
  16. This is where I struggle. Tarkenton is my go to. I never saw him play beyond highlights and lore. He was a very good QB that made the HOF but I could not consider him better than Favre, Brees, Rodgers, etc because on paper how can I compare someone i never saw in a game 50 years ago to a game I barely remember in the late 80s and Steve Young. It just opens a can of beans for the whole thing. Brees 100% is among the best 20 QBs in the modern 25 year era. Beyond that it's too much debate and effort to say who is where beyond the Montana, Manning, Brady debate.
  17. I watched with hater vision... But he didn't make the biggest throws and often chose safer routes. He didn't have a lot of challenging throws or hard decisions. What he has was accuracy and management of the ball/situation/game. That's not simply saying he is a game manager.
  18. Take those numbers. Dig deeper. When you take death by firearms then remove suicide the number drops dramatically. Someone above claimed more die by guns than car accidents. Which, including suicide looks possible by all metrics. Remove suicide by gun you're cutting out over half of those killed by gun. Then break it down to who owns guns legally and committed a homicide vs illegal firearms possession commiting homicides. You can go even further. But, when you get to some of the basics of these metrics you'll find about 2% of all reported deaths by gun are from legally owned and not criminally involved, to put it mildly.
  19. Listen, I am going to question this but I'm open to it haha... So Brees played in the era of Roethlisberger, Eli, Matt Ryan, Farve, Rodgers, Warner, McNabb, McNair... And he was better than all of them? On merit of statistics I think he beats all of them. I am looking at the bigger picture, I guess. That's a lot of super bowls on the list I gave and very good teams. In a vacuum where we just look at how a QB adds to his team - did he do more than those QB's above?
  20. So why ban guns if, as you just posted... Guns are not the problem?!?!?! 🤣 Any gun used to assault is by definition an assault weapon. If you're referring to how big, black, and shiny the gun then that's not the definition of an assault rifle.
  21. They had machine guns when it was passed. They also had large calibre weapons. They were also visionaries to expect that there would be advancements in firearms. The average revolutionary saw 2 major wars and a lot of advancement in warcraft.
  22. Am I that wrong to think brees is not inside the top 20? @NoSaint has tried to talk me otherwise for a long time. I just don't see him surviving in the NFL 30 years ago or more when it was much more physical. He would be a step down from Marino or Theisman.
  23. On topical face I can see where one would be misled to believe this. Before that's even a concept to discuss the 2nd amendment ensures some rights. Besides, who in government would you actually trust to oversee us? I can't think of anyone. Someone already brought up god and religion and was mocked. 🤷🏼‍♂️
  24. Take the number of death by gun. Remove suicide. The rate drops significantly. Take the amount of crime commited with legally obtained guns. You can break it down even further but it's an ugly wormhole to show all of the problems with the simple "gun culture" argument. And... Folks wonder why no one takes arguments about this seriously. A legitimate question was asked and is often asked without a reasonable response.
