in honor of @TBNSully's top-100 album countdown, have elected to come up with a top/bottom list of over- and under-rated rock and roll acts. here's number 10 on each list. Let the stepping on toes begin. -10 over-rated: jethro tull.. one word: flute. honoroble unmentions: u2 (beyond "zooropa"); rem (beyond "green"). both bands shoulda broke up before producing such tin-eared, over-reachingly precious gunk. +10 under-rated: Joan Jett. though known mostly for her "put a dime in the jukebox, baby" Ms. Jett managed to help form The Runaways, which led to L7 and my guilty pleasure, The Donnas. and she proceeded to partner up several times with sir Paul Westerberg to produce actual rock and roll. honorable mentions: Liz Phair, Sloan and Blue Rodeo. more to follow. jw Over-rated No. 9: coldplay Under-rated No. 9: The Cramps. ... http://forums.twobil...80#entry2817889 Over-rated No. 8: Green Day. Warren sapp slams J Byrd on NFLN

"average at best." ... really? is he a ballhawk? yes. did he lead the team in interceptions, forced fumbles and tie for the team lead in fumble recoveries? yes. that is not average. it's better. how silly. jw -
Mario Williams: no love for

reading through much of this thread, i can't imagine how women sometimes think men are ignorant pigs, given the name-calling and rush to judgements some here have. jw -

What if it's not Whaley?

it would be a huge and major shocker if it wasn't Doug Whaley. jw -
John Wawrow turns 50 today?!?
Delete This Account replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in Off the Wall Archives
bring'em on. that's funny. i've approached it with the very same level of immaturity i did 13, but with a bar tab hanging over my head. you may not know it, but that is my anthem. it's my favorite song and the one that made the 'mats truly relevant to me. thanks for that. 2) here comes a regular 3) can't hardly wait (the b-side "Tim" version found on the "All For Nothing" release post-breakup.) yep, and i'm stocked up on liquor. jw off to dinner. -

Thanks to all, And I'll even use caps, here, to mark this one moment of maturity. All bets are off after this, though. The drinking ensued a couple of weeks back during a Hootenany at the Swannie. It was a blurry night, to say the least. Scheduled it before the draft, because didn't know what might be going on this weekend -- Sabres playoffs (oops) or a Bills rookie camp. Today, taking it a little easier, and spending day with my far superior and better half. Should be an interesting season. My initial skepticism has lessened somewhat regarding this team. At the very least, it looks as if Marrone has a plan. I'd call this the Bills biggest overhaul since Gregg Williams' first season. So there's hope. Then again, this team's been very good at selling that. So we'll see. Thanks for the kind words -- and Beerball had it right. A friend of mine texted me during my party that he wasn't going to be able to make it. I was well into the sauce by then and texted him back: "Snow problem." Turns out, I can slur while texting. see ya. jw oh, nearly forgot. the replacements rule. -
you don't know me, or at least i don't know you. as for Spiller delivering juice, that would be under-utilizing his potential as a running back. at the very least, i would think he'd be capable of delivering juice AND eggs. as for this Super Bowl potential claim, my answer is: maybe and possibly not. these are my thoughts. jw

NFL and taxes - I never knew this
Delete This Account replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bills players are unique in one other sense. they're the NFL's only team whose players/employees annually pay taxes in Canada/Ontario. jw -
but the story says Friday, and that the private workout occurred on campus. whomever speculated where the workout was going to take place was wrong. and my story reads that this is the second time they've seen Geno work out after attending his pro day last week. am i still missing something here? jw

paul ryan says what he really means
Delete This Account replied to birdog1960's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
well, that's not right. if you agree with his ideas, then yes, you would regard him to be courageous. if you disagree with him, you wouldn't. paul ryan is a divisive figure, which means there are going to be some people who agree with him, and then there will be some who don't. as for whether he's serious, well, i hope he is. otherwise, there are those who would accuse his budget plan as being political farce. jw -
New gun control thread!

i fired a gun once, a sniper's rifle, in fact. it was quite powerful. missed the target some 100 yards away. probably a result of the recoil, which i wasn't accustomed to. the police sniper, meanwhile, blew a hole through the quarter on the next shot and gave it to me as a souvenir. i still have it hanging on a pin on my bulletin board here at home. electric and memorable as the moment of pulling the trigger was, and feeling the butt end of the rifle jam into my shoulder, it wasn't enough to convince me to purchase a gun. i was trying to quit smoking that weekend, and after two days of sucking lollipops and chewing gum, i got a speeding ticket on the way home because i found it difficult keeping focused. the cop was nice, and gave me the minimum fine because i pulled over right away on the I-5 just north of Seattle, on my way home to New Westminster. i bought a carton at the duty free, and picked up smoking again, a terrible habit, and left the guns behind. i guess you can say i've left myself to my own vices. jw -
i'd like a pension. jw

Brandon Lloyd anyone

I recall bob going on about a lot of things a few weeks back. Not sure what they were, but they included words and stuff. something about something or other. paid little attention then. doing same now. Jw -
at this point in this never-ending rebuild, i wouldn't use fans as focus groups, or approach running a team from a marketing standpoint by attempting to make change with an eye on selling tickets. ... that plan hasn't worked in Buffalo, which is why the team is in the state it's in. i would've stuck with Nix/Gailey for one more year, believing they had one more shot at fixing the offense, and with a belief that the defense was going to have an opportunity to begin jelling after only one year in Wannstedt's system. of course, they needed linebacking help. i don't know how not re-signing David Nelson helps the team. i question what happened to this talk about offensive line stability, when it's clear there isn't any. and who is going to protect this new quarterback that comes in. it's an unpopular stance, for sure, but the changes that occurred in January lead me to fear that this team is spinning its wheels and in jeopardy of doing so for another 3-4-5 years. i question who is -- and how many people -- are making the football decisions, and whether there is any focus or plan to build a winner. it starts there, and so far i've heard a lot of talk about how things are going to be better, but seen no substance of that happening. jw

and there is it, my point encapsulated in one post. it's the cart before the horse, the egg or the chicken. bills fans have lost patience by pushing for changes every 3 seasons, and yet the franchise needs to be patient to stop this never-ending cycle of change. and in the meantime, the fans get impatient by demanding more change, which leads to change, and the need for patience, which the impatient fans are running out of. rinse and repeat. good luck with all that. jw
-
Given lack of lbs anything can help. Can't break bank, though. Tried that last year and the dockery/Langston year, and the tko year, and the Bledsoe year ... This team needs patience and stability, something that always seems to be forgotten in the mad rush for change. jw
-
I get a kick out of this. Fans demand change. Change happens. Fans demand faster change. For those who missed Bills' rebuilding circa 2001, 2006 and 2009 and 2010, these things take time. You asked for it, and here it is. Change. Jw
