At this point? There is no point I suppose. But there were several Brohm threads when this one first started, and it just seemed a little pointless to start another, but whatever. Talk about what he did in college all you want. But there are lots of quarterbacks who are great and college and don't amount to anything. That alone, of course, isn't telling, but he didn't seem to turn any Packers fans' heads. I remember when they drafted him and the jury was still out on Rodgers. That didn't last long. 3rd overall QB and #1 overall pick are two completely different things. I watch the drafts pretty closely and I don't remember him even being in the top ten. Maybe some smaller organizations did, but I don't remember him being that high. I could be wrong, though. I still like the signing, for the record, I would just settle down a little about it.

haha, well at least we're high on ourselves, aren't we? Mind if I 'repsond'? Your opinion boils down to "well, we've got nothing to lose and our current QB situation sucks....so why not?" I actually agree with that, if you bothered to look at the actual Brian Brohm threads (hence there not being a need for another one). And here's another novel idea: why don't you look at what he's done in the NFL before going overboard with his college performance (since, as we know, so many college players fail in the NFL): he's sucked in the preseason against 2nd and 3rd stringers, he's been unable to not only see the field, but make the 53-man roster, he got beat out by a 7th round nobody from the football juggernaut Louisiana State, and his own scouted downfalls are the same as our current 'franchise' quarterback. So before you start accusing others of having a 'lack of intellect' for simply calling it like it is, maybe, just maybe, you should realize that the opinion might be one that is thought out. By the way, if you don't like when people call out others for creating unnecessary threads, there are at least a dozen people on this board you are going to have an issue with. Probably more. Deal with it.

Sorry, maybe Jauron's firing got me on the accountability bandwagon. Where is Ralph when you need him? Maybe we need some accountability at twobillsdrive...

He was just joking. I thought the 'Trecel'/'Toyoat' comments were pretty funny actually...

I love how Brohm is climbing the would-be draft boards. He was going to be a first rounder. Then he was going to be a top ten. Then he was going to be a top five. Now he was "nearly a #1 overall" pick. What's next, that teams are spending draft picks from the year before on him a la Larry Bird? Give me a break. And no, this didn't need it's own topic. It easily would have fit in any of the other three Brian Brohm threads. If the moderators around here did their jobs (ahem) they would merge the threads already and clean this place up. Although this thread may have already diverged too far by this point to fit in with any of the others.

You must be new here. You should have been around for the Tony Scheffler/Derrick Johnson/Levi Jones/Jon Runyan discussions.

What, Art Shell isn't available for his token annual interview?? -
This a) didn't need it's own thread, and b) is several years old therefore irrelevant.

Why don't you just put it out there here: http://forums.twobillsdrive.com/index.php?showtopic=101687

HASN'T WORKED BEFORE AND IT WON'T WORK NOW
Leonidas replied to Dr. Trooth's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Mike Holmgren made the Super Bowl as HC/GM. So did Shanahan. Belichick is doing pretty well this year without Pioli. As a rule I'd agree with you, but that assumes there's a qualified general manager out there which is a big assumption. I'd rather have a Shanahan or Cowher doing both than have someone like Phil Savage in just because we needed another warm body to be our GM. -
What do you think of the outcome of the Peters trade?
Leonidas replied to Steely Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly. Peters is having an average year at best. I heard a report somewhere that he's given up four sacks and has missed what, two games already? I try not to pay attention to it...but it's hard. Look, Langston Walker wasn't up to the task. Fine. Demetrius Bell doesn't appear to be either. In hindsight Oher would have been a good pick at #11 (especially over Maybin who I really think is gonna bust), but paying Peters would not have solved the problem. Ask the Philadelphia faithful. -
Buffalo WILL Hire Shanahan or Cowher

Wait, what? Hasselbeck was on the Packers back in '99, Brunell back in '94, Favre was never a backup in GB, and Aaron Brooks was drafted as Favre's successor, only a backup waiting till he retired. Sorry, but none of that has any relevance as to why Brohm might be a good quarterback. Green Bay hasn't been producing quarterbacks like Denver used to produce running backs. Before Aaron Rodgers was there, if I'm not mistaken, the only other QB on the roster was Doug Peterson, and he isn't being inducted into Canton any time soon. You mean the way J.P. Losman was kept around as a lame duck backup? Or Gregg Williams was kept around as a lame duck coach? Edwards isn't going anywhere. Not yet. I like the pickup just as you said, it's low risk/high [potential] reward. But people get a little too hyped up about this stuff. Being beaten out by 'street' quarterbacks as someone said says a lot. Being a potential top 10 pick well before he was actually drafted is completely irrelevant. What #3? The Packers only carry two QB's. Is that a serious comment? You don't really think Trent Edwards has trade value at this point, do you? Yeah, 'cause Peters is having an $11M/season in Philly right now...

Who do you cut Edwards or Hamdan?

How Sam Bradford Goes To Buffalo
Leonidas replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, because mortgaging the future always plays out so well in the end... -
Another issue of "well, I've heard of him, he must be good" syndrome. Just like Tony Sheffler, Derrick Johnson, Levi Jones, Jon Runyan, etc. etc. Has anyone seen him play since college? You guys need some perspective. Do I hate the signing? Not at all. But don't forget, he was cut in place of a 7th rounder from Louisiana State named Matt Flynn. Don't expect him to lead us to the promised land just yet.

Leonidas replied to Wilson from Gamehendge's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn't want LeBeau either. He was terrible as a HC in Cincinnati. He seems to be the perfect crotchet,y riverboat gambler old defensive coordinator in the Jim Johnson/Monte Kiffin mold. -
Per http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2009/09/05/packers...-anthony-smith/: "As a quarterback, he showed no ability to make good, quick decisions. He also had no confidence throwing anything more than checkdowns." Super.

I would have taken Jimmy Johnson in a heartbeat at the beginning of the decade. But he's 66. He'll be 67 before the game is over. He's been out of coaching for ten years! He is not the answer. Don't forget how Joe Gibbs fared after such a long time away from the game.

Cowher excluded, what a horrible list. Who is 'Biran' Billick, anyway?? This sounds like the worst plan ever (hiring this guy, not your analysis - I'm agreeing with you here). Not only do I want to just say 'no' to a CFL coach, but he did have about a hundred stops along the way. Being an assistant head coach is irrelevant (see: April, Bobby; LeBeau, Richard), as is being a quarterbacks coach (see: Zorn, Jim) and a running backs coach (I can't even think of one). We need a coach with either head coaching experience (NFL head coaching experience) or an up and coming coordinator (offensive or defensive). Nothing less. Pass on college coaches too (a la Craig Erickson, Steve Spurrier, Bobby Petrino (Jimmy Johnson was the exception, not the rule)). And no one over the age of 65 certainly, preferably not older than 60. -
Father-son coaching duo in BUF?
Leonidas replied to TheBlackMamba's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn't. He's going to be 67 by next season and has a 5-13 playoff record, with a knack for going ultra-conservative a la Herm Edwards in high pressure situations. Pass. -
Top Coaching Candidates...

He invented that ****ty formation? I've seen more blocked punts with that formation than I've ever seen in my life. -
We need "The Bob's" for Modrak, Guy and Brandon...
Leonidas replied to timstep's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Peters has been sub-par in Philly this year. Signing him to 11M+/year was not the answer. In hindsight maybe drafting Oher was our best solution. Or maybe there was no right answer. And losing Winfield didn't kill us by any means. Minny gave him a great contract, and he's played pretty well there, but don't clump losing him in with Pat Williams please. That's been disastrous. -
I assume you mean during the regular season? His 5-13 postseason record speaks volumes...
