The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
Magox replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Why? 50-60k people die each year of the flu and no one bats an eye. So now we have a virus that may kill 200k and you know what? It sucks. But we have a virus that came from China in which they covered it up which really screwed everyone and now we are where we are. We just have to deal with it the best we can while returning to normalcy. We know that the virus is on par as the regular flu for people under age 60 and slightly more dangerous for those between 60-80 and considerably more for those over 80. We aren’t going to do another shut down or stringent measures any longer, that ship has sailed for a myriad of reasons. That is over. And if so it will be on a county by county basis. Unless it’s by some paternalistic governor from a blue state. Even then compliance will suck. Now we move forward while taking precautions for those that are most vulnerable while everyone else practicing common sense measures. There is no looking back. -
That was very well thought out and written. I agree with just about everything you’ve said even though a couple of the points you made were never internalized until now. Thanks for that.

@Rob's House Another article that just came out today as well from Andrew Sullivan who has been out in front on this issue battling the Orwellian moral objectionists. Here is a link to the article he referenced at the end...This was written two years ago warning of what we are seeing. "We all live on campus now"

Rob, for me this is the biggest threat that this country has faced in my lifetime. I've already said my piece on this but the growing influence these little moral objectionists is a frightening thought. It's bad enough they are littered through Big tech, the news rooms, corporate board rooms, sports, Hollywood and Academia. But what worries me most is if there are enough of these ***** that get voted in to enact God knows what. In any case, here is another Really good piece from Ross Douthat who is a Conservative with a small C. He put together a really eloquent well thought out piece that is hot off the presses. We are living in the beginning of some Orwellian times. It's only going to get worse, Academia is a factory for these moral authoritarians and they have a stranglehold of the institution.

Can't say that I feel sorry for them.

For the ones who engage in Panic Porn It doesn't matter anyway, the people would never comply if there ever was a suggestion of returning back to what was. That ship has sailed. -

This is a somewhat lengthy article, but I highly recommend it. Jonathan Chait is a leftist and at times can be partisan. But he has been speaking out about the "illberal left" for quite some time. He had a really eye opening article that I remember reading back in 2015. Excerpt from the tweeted article from below.

It's beyond distressing.

Could you just imagine if right wing militia took over 7 blocks of a major US city, the outrage and coverage from the national news media. Not only would it be the biggest story in the US, it would be major international news. Just another example of how broken of an institution that the media have become.

This is quite the characterization from a New York Times Op-Ed writer.

Closed group Thats a good idea.

I try not to post much on my FB page about politics because I don’t want to be “ that guy”. I have to try to be as non political as I can about this so what I’ve been doing is been posting some of the extreme absurdities of the woke mob. I can’t just do nothing about it. I have to try to shine a light on what’s happening.

Sure, why not?

100% While Conservatives have done a good job with the grooming judges and focusing on the court systems, they have ceded complete control to academia. This what we are seeing was inspired and fostered through the Universities. The PC/safe space kids who we used to mock have grown up and are littering society in positions of influence. The dynamic has to change.
-
The speed at which this is happening is jaw dropping. Something snapped and the playing field is changing right before our eyes. The mob is in control and the ones that are supposed to be speaking out against this depravity have been either too timid or have gone silent. Too much ground has been lost this past two weeks. This is snowballing. I’m seeing it in a number of different metrics.
