  1. Last ten regular season games - 30 catches and 2 TDs. Those are numbers for a 4th round pick, not a guy that cost two no. 1's. Outside of an 84 yard bomb ten games ago his average per catch is below average. Only one game with more than 4 catches.

He is starting to look like the second coming of Lee Evans, not Andre Reed.

The excuses are getting old too:

    4. He had Orton throwing to him.

    5. He has Taylor throwing to him.

    7. Rex likes to run.

Watkins can't exactly call his own number and throw the ball to himself, can he?

If he's open (and all 22 says he is often open) it's on the coaches and QB what play they call and who they throw to.

What part of "we won" is upsetting to you? Sounds to me like someone drafted Watkins in Fantasy and his ox is gored 'cuz Watkins isn't putting up numbers.

Sometimes I think it's harmless, and sometimes I hate FF. Football is a team game.

  2. Running QB and wildcat QB are two different things. Same player profile with different skin color and that guy doesn't say he is a wildcat QB. Calling Brad Smith a wildcat QB makes sense. Calling TT one does not. Hopeful thinks it is because the reporter is an idiot. I grant that this is definitely one of the possibilities.

The David Lee thing makes sense only if you think that guy would be calling Matt Cassell a wildcat QB.

Or ignorant, don't forget ignorant. Or playing the buffoon for ratings.

Since David Lee is strongly associated with the wildcat in the NFL, I don't think we need to call the relatively statuesque Mr Cassell a "wildcat QB" to think that the small fast QB associated with Lee might have something to do with wildcat.

Whatever may be the reason for misusing the term, I do hope Mr Taylor is able to provide an educational experience for the benefit of the Boston Media this Sunday, commencing at 1 pm Eastern. Purely for philanthropic and pedagologic purposes, of course, but if he helps beat the cr@! out of the Pats*** while providing same, I'm all for it.

  3. Someone will probably sign him if they get an injury at RB. Because rosters are set at this point and he doesn't have PS eligibility, a team would need to cut someone to sign him. I'd expect him to get picked up if an RB goes on IR somewhere.

This, or even he'll be picked up if a team loses a back to an injury they'll return from in a few weeks

  4. Except... In our stadium, the home and away teams both exit the same way.

Well d*mn, shoots that sign down

I would like to skewer Goodell.

    Brady is Goodell's Boss

which is the G rated version of...

    Goodell is Brady's B___h

    or the ever popular:

    Brady says, "Jump"

    Goodell asks, " How High?"

of course, ticking off Goodell could come back to haunt the Bills.

    No ticking off Goodell

  5. tune in to WGR

    - no better place to be than Buffalo, NY on Sunday

    - on the fans being loud: "you can feel it" and it can disrupt the offense

    - we expected to play that way vs Colts, not a surpise

    - make Luck make quick decisions and make him make mistakes

    - Tom Brady has a hand up on the rest of the league having played Rex a lot in his career

    - just another game or is it bigger because its the Pats? : "probably somewhere in the middle"

    - mood in the locker room has been the same all season, guys are ready to go and working hard

    - Pats have bullseye on them because they win so much

    - Kyle doesn't worry too much about the cheating stuff

    - big to get Marcel back

    - Tyrod has been playing great all camp and he's glad he doesn't have to chase him

    On demand linky?

  6. Or an overly religious outcast who simply can't throw

No, no, that would be if he were a 6'3" white guy who wants to play QB

I tend to not leap to conclusions either. Until I hear something stupid like that over and over again and this time from a town full of Al Campanis'.

That's the only time I've heard Tyrod called a "Wildcat QB". An obviously skunk-drunk Boston call-in to Schop and the Bulldog said "Tyrod Taylah? That sounds like something that fell off the bottom of my Cah."

I'm sure Tyrod has never, never, never in his life heard such an original and witty take on his first name.

  7.

"But it's great, it's a great feeling when you shut everyone up by the end, by the fourth quarter half the stadium is empty. That's part of the motivation. You make good plays. You quiet them down. You take control of the game. Winning on the road is a very satisfying feeling."

Buffalo fans, I do believe we have been challenged. Nobody leaves. Nobody stops yelling.

  8. Just a big piece of poster board with a giant asterisk on it.

This! 70,000 of these!!!!! Just this!

I'm not a big fan of signs. But, this is a really good idea.

    asterisk-clipart-xochi_asterisk-1969px.p

YES! Make one for you and 70,000 of your closest friends.

    patriots-cheater.jpg

Well, one of these flanking each side of the visitors tunnel would not come amiss.....

    I'd go the visa route.

Hand held camera for stealing signals: $145

Needle and pressure gauge for lowering ball pressure: $14

Cheating my way to a championship: tarnished*

very nice, very very nice. And goes with the asterisk nicely.

  9. O' Brien better be brushing up his resume for some college football interviews this spring.

If not, maybe he can be an assistant on Belichick's staff again.

    The guy is a mess.

This is kind of a change of topic, but was Rex Ryan taking a bit of a shot at Bill O'Brien maybe in his presser?

On if he's ever looked at Belichick's quieter approach and thought 'He has four Super Bowl rings' No, I get it. But do you think if we muzzled it, I'd have four Super Bowl rings? If we would, I wouldn't say I word. That ain't going to help. I admire Belichick for the way he is and the way he controls that organization. It's clearly driven through him. That's his blueprint for success. That's who he is. For him to be somebody else, for him to come out and be like somebody else would be a mistake. Same thing for me. This is who I am. It's different or whatever, and I get it. I don't have the four Super Bowl rings but neither does anybody else. They can try. Hell, there's a bunch of his guys who have gone on and left and they try to (be like) him but they ain't him. So it doesn't work for them. So if you are yourself, you have a chance. If you're acting like somebody you're not, you have no chance in this business.

  10.

    Everyone should just go

    TSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSsssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss....................

I actually like this way better than "cheater" chants. Pass it along, folks. This, every time the Pats offense takes the field. It would be SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO awesome.

And the announcers would be so puzzled - like they used to be when fans were screaming BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCEEEEE! and they had to explain, they aren't booing, they're cheering for Bruce Smith. Please make this happen, Oh Football Stadium Gods!

Besides it would save our voices for interfering with the offense by getting LOUD LOUD LOUDER

  11. @AaronWilson_NFL: Ryan Mallett has been told he's the starter sources confirm first reported by @RapSheet

    Rogue?

@ProFootballTalk: On Hard Knocks, Bill O'Brien told Hoyer and Mallett that Hoyer wasn't on a short leash http://t.co/K5EQdmZbUs

B b b b b b b b but....Rex Ryan and the Bills were the only of 31 teams to not have a starter this preseason, and we have the worst QB in the NFL! I know I read that somewhere(s)

    Good. Hoyer looked god awful.

Skins need to do the same with Kirk Cousins.

Someone's gonna wish they offered a better contract to Cassel. Or they're gonna be asking the Bills what EJ would cost them

  12. Sorry if this is already up, I searched and I didn't see it.

Rex Ryan Weds Presser, highlights by Ty Dunne

Rex Ryan must be a pretty smart guy under the brag and bluster. He's too "fast on his feet" (verbally) to be a dodo.

    My personal faves:

On Belichick saying he'll take his record vs. Rex... I'd take his record, too. I'd take the wins.

On if he's ever looked at Belichick's quieter approach and thought 'He has four Super Bowl rings' ... No, I get it. But do you think if we muzzled it, I'd have four Super Bowl rings? If we would, I wouldn't say I word.

On Rob Gronkowski...is he as big a challenge as you'll face in the league at tight end? Absolutely he is. His size, his speed, his strength, this just in, he's pretty good. ... We're not going to ask one guy, 'Hey, this is your guy.' Shoot, he'd have to look like King Kong or something. 'You got him! You've got the Gronk!' Put Kong on him. I'm not going to get into how we're going to cover him. On if he's his kind of guy/doesn't care what people think... Of course he is but he's on the other team so you can't stand him. (my personal fave)

On if he has learned the Patriots' RB's name... Yeah, Blount. That's who it's going to be. That's who it would've been in Week 1.

On players saying they want that challenge of Gronkowski... Oh yeah, everybody does. But here's a common theme thing you'll see. Most secondary coaches that I've ever been around, early in the week, they'll say 'Hey, let's get up on him! Let's press these guys. We'll do this and that.' As the week goes on, it's 'Well, let's back him off a little bit.' And then all you hear gameday is 'Get your ass back!' That's true. (my second fave)

  13. How about they throw a big blanket over him and then pound him with some sledge hammers.

I'd settle for having Mario Williams body-slam him a few times followed by a few full-speed pass breakups into his midsection by Gilmore.

Kind of the same thing, when you think of it.

  14. pretty good article by the Globe, thanks for linking it Yolo; I had to take notice, however, of the following opinion:

" Cordy Glenn is an underrated left tackle, and Eric Wood is still one of the best centers in the game."

wow - it seems to me that the majority of TBD posters would disagree.

My takeaway is that this version of our Buffalo Bills very much appears to have taken on the identity & persona of its head coach. My most vivid example would be the way the Bills secondary tackled any Colts receiver - immediately & violently.

Yeah, I saw that too: "And the offensive line was outstanding, although the Colts looked horrific up front. Richie Incognito was fantastic in his first game as the Bills’ left guard, paving huge holes for the running backs and giving Taylor plenty of time to throw. Cordy Glenn is an underrated left tackle, and Eric Wood is still one of the best centers in the game."

I agree that Cog played well and Glenn was OK. Wood seemed confused sometimes and Henderson gut his ass whupped by an average DL. I hope he comes out mad and determined to do better.

  15. WEEI guys laughing themselves silly over Gilmore wanting Gronk. They said he will get "thrown outta the club" like that DB from Indy last year (Sergio Brown)

I feel certain that Stephon Gilmore enjoys the comparison to a part-time Notre Dame player who was picked up by the Pats as an UDFA and scrubbed by them twice before catching on to two noted defensive powerhouse, Indy and the Jags.

All these 6'1" 190 lb black CB with braids are exactly alike in abilities. Kinda like 6'1" black QB, you know, "wildcat" guys.

  16. Being facetious, as a cover for Gronkowski, I kind of like this one

    121114gronk.jpg?itok=MaYaPUtD&c=0d059078

Being serious (really- I am serious here), I have wondered about putting a fast, agile lineman like Mario Williams on Gronk. I know this deserves to be laughed at, but even a busted clock tells correct time twice a day, and here's the thing: whoever said that Rob Gronkowski was a 6th grader playing with 2nd graders really captured a valid point. And unlike many teams, the Bills actually have the talent and depth on the line and the scheme flexibility to pull something like this without gutting their DL. And most DL don't have the speed or agility to stay with Gronk for an instant, but Mario actually does.

    Rob Gronkowski is 6'6", 265 lbs, with 34" arms and a 4.62s 40 time.

Our tallest DB is Stephon Gilmore, at 6'1", 190 lbs, with 31" arms and 4.38s 40 time. I know, leverage, angles, timing and all that, but it's just a tough order. Even our best LBs give Gronkowski 20 lbs and a few inches.

On the other hand, consider Mario Williams: 6'6", 292 lbs, 4.73s 40 time and while I couldn't find his wingspan, I bet it matches. Set Mario Williams to jam Gronk off the line, and he'd know he'd been jammed. Then hand him off to a DB.

    OK, let the laughter begin.

  17. BB was dead man walking in the pre-season. when he fumbled again in practice and in a pre-season game even though he recovered was it. I don't know about you guys, but if your in a hiring position, you do your best but sometimes you miss. whaley missed.

He also hit with Buddy in Hughes and so on. Preston Brown, Kiko Alonso, Nigel Bradham, possibly Karlos Williams. If you hit more than you miss, your doing well.

It's too bad we couldn't have traded for a 6th round pick to a team like Dallas or Cleveland.

I expect he stuck on the roster as long as he did because they tried to shop him and lacked takers. Hard to shop a guy who isn't dressing and it looks like you might Turk.

It also wouldn't shock me if we're waiting for McRib to heal up so we can shop him, too

Marcus Thigpen Scouting Report Position: RB Conference: Big10 School: Indiana Hoosiers Year/Status: Declared Jersey Number: #2 Height & Weight: 5'9 - 193 lbs.

2009 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

    Marcus Thigpen, RB, Indiana

Marcus Thigpen, who is also a sprinter for the Hoosier track team, isn't one of the elite backs in the country. He is however, always a threat to score every time he touches the ball. Thigpen averaged 6.7 yards per carry this season, even though he only averaged just under 8 carries a game. He also averaged 18.1 yards per reception and 22.4 yards per kick return, further illustrating his game breaking speed. Thigpen played running back in high school and was moved to wide receiver for his freshman season, after redshirting in 2004. He was moved back to running back during the spring of 2006, and has been Indiana's starter ever since. His experience at receiver has made him a valuable asset in the Hoosier passing attack. He serves as the safety valve for quarterback Kellen Lewis, and has taken several of those check down passes for huge gains. Thigpen has recorded 1621 yards rushing for his career, and scored 9 touchdowns on the ground. He has also caught 84 passes for 1028 yards and scored 9 touchdowns through the air. At 5'9" and only 193 pounds, Thigpen isn't big enough to be an every down back at the next level. However, his big play ability gives him a good chance of making a team as a return man and a third or fourth option in the backfield. Thigpen has averaged over 20 yards per return each of his four seasons, including a national best 30.1 average during the 2006 season. His 3 kick return touchdowns also led the nation in 2006. Thigpen is a late round prospect who should expect to hear his name between the late fifth and late sixth rounds. Marcus Thigpen's Pro Day workout may have shot him into the mid fifth round range for a team looking for a return man. He ran a 4.47 second 40 yard dash, had a 35 inch vertical leap, and broad jumped 10 feet 6 inches.

    http://fftoolbox.scout.com/nfl_draft/profile_display.cfm?prospect_id=1696

I hadn't realized his full story, but there's something a little bit Freddy-esque about Thigpen's story with a dash of Graham lite. Saskatchewan Rough Riders and Hamilton Tiger Cats.

I did predict in a thread halfway through camp that if they really wanted Thigpen on this roster it would be at the expense of the 4th running back rather than a receiver. You have McCoy and Williams who look capable of carrying a heavy load, Dixon as spot duty and short distance back and then Thigpen and / or Harvin who could go back there if you ended up down guys during a gameday situation. Who was bringing more benefit - a 4th RB or Thigpen?

    Thigpen dresses on game day.

  18. It's not like we were bragging in the mid 90s at how pitiful the patriots were then when we were winning the division every year.

Speak for yourself and the mouse in your pocket :D I can remember hearing about "the Patsies" as in "our OL needs to get its act together or we'll be down in the cellar with the Patsies" or "the Patsies in Week 6, pencil that in a W".

I don't remember the same degree of arrogance or disrespect, but that's largely a function of the HC and his personality IMO. And since I lived out of town and it preceded the Age of Social Media, maybe the arrogance and disrespect were there OK and I just wasn't exposed to them.

  19. I don't think Whaley is being castrated too bad here, but it's not okay how any criticism leveled at a bad move is screamed down. Sorta ridiculous. It was a risk that didn't work out. That counts as valid.

I'm trying to figure out if this is directed at my post and if so, how it matches up to anything I posted?

  20. I don't love wasting assets. I think that's an ok opinion to have. The trade for Brown was a gamble that didn't work - fine. Blown trade but you have to take chances. The trade for Watkins was a gamble that may or may not have worked. If they're going to be using him as a decoy like they did last week, it's a blown trade but you have to take chances. If we make the playoffs this year, all will be forgiven. If we fall short, it will likely be because of depth issues that having extra draft picks may have solved... so, Whaley is taking a risk with his job. If he's ok with it, I'm ok with it.

Ya gotta have a place on the roster for those depth players. I personally think the TE and WR numbers are a bit crazy, but presumably they're there because Roman wants 'em.

Hard to fault Whaley for that.

I don't know what they're doing with Fluellen on the roster but presumably they have their reasons. Is he a Special Teams Monster or something?

Give Watkins time with Taylor. Got to build chemistry.
