  1. He's a millionaire now. What do you expect him to do, stand on the sidelines in the cold and wind and cheer on the team? The suite probably has lots of cold beer and hot wings. Duh

Well, that's clearly what Thurman expected him to do:

cheer on the team and provide support/encouragement to his backup

Part of being a team (and building a winner) instead of becoming a millionaire loser (and whiner)

PS Isn't Thurman a millionaire too? Maybe Lynch could talk to him millionaire boi 2 boi

  2. One thing that hasn't changed in 30 years is how poor the Cincinnati and Detroit franchises have been. To pin their entire success or failure on one DB is probably the most ridiculous thing I've read on TSW. And I've read some real doozies.

    <..>

Not sure why I'm running to the defense of a bad HC, but it's only fair to show how hollow your opinion is.

Thought the point/opinion was not to pin failure on one DB?

    Thought the point/opinion was:

-"success gets to be a habit, just like anything else a fellow keeps on doing"

    -so does acceptance of mediocrity

If the man never played on a winning team, or coached consistent winners, does he know how to succeed the NFL?

If he does, where and how did he learn it?

Seem like solid fair questions from here

    But remember I drive a '98 Honda

  3. Yikes, but Marv is in the hall of fame as people on this site have reminded me time and again when I criticize the old goat.

In the hall of fame as a coach - rightly so

In the hall of shame as a GM

"Doing a favor" for Ralph did Bills no favor

  4. Exactly my point! And the players have no choice but to walk into that fight completely unsure of how its going to work.

At least from the press clippings, Jauron seems to have the players persuaded they could win with squirtguns, if they just used them correctly -- you know, like they do on Friday

  5. Okay, let's put it another way. Had the Dols played the season with Beck or Henne as their starting QB, does anyone really think that they'd have finished even close to 11-5 and won the division? Anyone?

    Interesting question.

Possible: Cassel, a QB with minimal college & NFL playing experience. took NE to 11-5

He was surrounded by vets, and had several years to learn the system (on paper)

Does make it seem possible that a rookie QB in a good system could "get it done"

Especially w/ coaches who adapt the system to suit his strengths

Facts: 2004-2007 Pennington had an overall record of 28W, 36L w/ Jets (average of 7W, 9L per season. Huh.)

    2006 & 2007 only +1 TD vs. INT

Based on recent performance, if you took a poll before this season, how many fans would honestly have said they thought Pennington was the Man who would turn it around and take 1-15 'Fins to 11-5 and the playoffs?

Based on his recent record with the Jets, I think honestly, not many.

    Maybe coaching matters.

  6. Why is it that Matt Cassel (from Northridge, CA) can play in the same weather that Trentie can't tolerate? Any excuses explanations, Trent-lickers?

Did Belichick* maybe peel that section off the field house roof and spy on our Bills installing their 'game plan'?

    Let's do an experiment.

Send the Pats staff and coaches to Buffalo

Send the Bills staff and coaches to NE

    Take notes

  7. I've never been a 'fire the coach' kind of guy. As you can see, I'm a new poster, and I've lurked around here for years. It just seems as though Dick Jauron lacks the human qualities necessary to properly motivate and coordinate a pro football team. The Patriots love their coach because they win. Players hated Parcells, but loved him in the end because they won championships. Our players love Jauron because he is like a doting parent. It serves their personal interests well, and they want to keep the status quo.

I'm another long-time Bills fan and lurker here. I agree, Tucker, good post

One definition of "insanity" is "doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome"

Like, Jackson saying he'd love Jauron back because they'll just keep the same system and fix their mistakes

The system seems busted, and part of the job is to COACH players to avoid mistakes and stay focused.

When Levy took over from Bullough, it was striking how the team's penalties and the mistakes dropped off even when they didn't win right away. Used to drive me nutz under Hank, breakthrough gain nullified by DumbAss hold or the like (sound familiar?).

Levy's motto "Don't be Dumb, Don't be Dirty". Not much dirty, but a big pile of Dumb going on under DJ

Bills don't seem well-coached in the fundamentals. Like Preston shaking his a** back to the line of scrimmage and not letting himself get into a scrap with the clock ticking. Like good fundamental ball-protection by QB and receivers. Notice how Edwards holds the ball when he decides to scramble? Like receivers putting their shoulders down and fighting to get an extra yard after a catch vs. "walked" out of bounds standing up. Or fighting to get out of bounds on short time. That's what good position coaching does -- keep players focused on the fundamental skills. And what about conditioning fundamentals? Some injuries avoidable by good S&C -- groin pulls for one. Take-aways, too. Bills receivers plain lose the fight with the DBs too often, notice that? Where's the arm strength?

It's the poor fundamentals 3 years into Jauron's watch, more than the W-L record that damn Jauron to me. Toss in the bone-head play and clock management, and it's insanity 4 sure to keep on. I agree that the team seems so poorly coached it's hard to evaluate the talent level. Its clear we're not making effective use of the players we have.

If Bills were showing good fundamentals and focus and effort, I'd say, sure, don't give up on DJ too early.

Maybe we are 2-3 key acquisitions away.

But that's not what I see.

PS Since it's the "Fashion" to judge us by cars, I drive a '98 Honda. Rate me "Accord"ingly, Hee!
