  1. Honestly? Ego is my guess. Hardly--Jimbo just didn't call enough run plays. They played the whole game with 2 down linemen and still should've lost.
  2. This is like the time that you asked me if Malik Hooker could drop to the No. 10 slot...I told you, emphatically, that it was completely and utterly impossible. Worked, didn't it?
  3. What's the only proven way to beat Tom Brady?
  4. Also, perhaps the greatest reason for the machine-like precision of the K-Gun was Jimbo's ability to make pre-snap reads and adjustments. People used to marvel at the way Peyton Manning did it, and those of use that saw Jimbo play would just laugh and reminisce about the similarities in their respective command of the game.
  5. If he's suspended, then he'll technically still make the team and start the season on the RES/SUS list.
  6. Didn't Minnesota sign both Remmers and Reiff to start? Pretty sure they still have Clemmings too--and I think they drafted the kid from TCU
  7. They must not have been happy with his off-field issue or his commitment to recovery. Looks like Mills will definitely be on the roster. With 7 spots on the team already locked up by Glenn, Richie, Wood, Miller, Mills, Dawkins, and Groy, I'll be very interested in how they handle the remainder of the roster with regard to OL. There's one or two spots up for grabs among Henderson, Ola, Ducasse, and Lewis...all of whom have starting experience in the NFL.
  8. So maybe Wauffle and Frazier will be the right combination for him?
  9. It points at everyone involved--there's no way that Whaley/Littman/Overdorfdidn't approve that contract. I also put that on Russ, since the Pegulas hadn't taken over at that point, so he would've signed off on it as well. I would've told him that we'll tag him next offseason. That language is standard boiler plate in NFL contracts--Dareus' contract is the exception, not the norm. I realize fully well that you aren't making that argument, so please excuse the stern tone of my response.
  10. The big issue with the contract wasn't the money, it was that the FO conceded to a provision that protected Dareus from the team recouping guaranteed money in the event of a drug-related suspension. That, IMO, is inexcusable.
  11. You know that I respect your take as always; I just can't get with that thought process. We simply don't have the benefit of hindsight when drafting guys. Now, I suppose there's an argument to be made that the team should've had a better feel for the kid's mentality before drafting him, but again, without being inside the process, we don't know what information was or wasn't available to them at the time. That would be funny, but the art of team-building is knowing how to handle different personalities. Maybe Dareus will respond to the hardline approach, and maybe he won't. My impression of him is that you need to strike a balance between letting him know you support him 100%, while also making the expectations of him clear.
  12. He was hardly a bad pick at the time; he was widely considered one of the best players in that class. I'll admit that there were a vocal minority of us that wanted JJ Watt, but most folks thought Cam/Von Miller/Dareus/AJ Green were the elites in that class. Also, Dareus was a wrecking ball in '13 and '14. I don't excuse his off-field behavior, but the fact that Rex's defense adversely affected every player along the defensive front can hardly be ignored here.
  13. If folks watched the Jacksonville/Pittsburgh/Cleveland games and think Marcell quit on his team, well, I cannot understand what they were seeing. As to whether or not they can cut him, their first opportunity to do so would be as a post-June 1st 2018 designation, which would save them $2.2M against the cap. They could also trade him after June 1st 2018, which would save over $10M against the cap.
  14. And he overcame the pressure against Seattle and the Giants. You seem to be missing the point here.
  15. Roman's pin/pull is more of a man concept, yes, but I think you'll still see a fair amount of movement along the offensive front, which was the key behind why the OL was able to generate so many holes in the run game.
  16. One downside to think about with the stretch plays and moving pockets is that it does allow for DBs to grab/tackle the WRs freely. It's going to be important that our WRs other than Watkins (since he's proven himself powerful enough) be able to work off a jam quickly and take the fight to the DB.
  17. He got pressure, yes. The high water mark for a QB is to defeat the pressure. The defense can always send more players than the offense can block, so in the end, it's the QB's job to beat the pressure. Yes, he'll be surrounded by NFL-level talent at the next level, and that'll mitigate some of the limitations of the situation he's in right now. He also needs to be able to take advantage of the opportunities to hit plays that loosen up defenses--he had those against Washington and didn't always capitalize. The point of focusing on that game is to identify traits that I can track as this season moves forward. The progress that a kid shows in those areas tells me a lot about his potential in the pros.
  18. Got through a few Luke Falk games this weekend; here were my summary notes from the work-up: "Can STR fast (same w/ delivery), nice touch on seam routes, feet stay active, enough mobility to scramble, gets loose with feet under pressure (ball sails), average arm, will throw WR open" I really focused on the Washington game, since that's about as close to facing an NFL defense as he's going to get in college football. It wasn't precisely a massacre, but he struggled with hitting targets in tight coverage or taking the top off the defense when Washington limited the YAC opportunities.
  19. You might be surprised: Dallas had 25 passing TDs and 24 rushing TDs Cincinnati had 18 passing TDs and 17 rushing TDs Just saying we aren't the only team that scores by rushing.
  20. I would imagine it's the one in which they had a top-10 defense and an offense that added Brandon Marshall and Evan Engram to go along with Eli, OBJ, and Sterling Shepard
  21. You have to admit: in light of where they were, the recent FO hires (Gaines, Hickey, Schoen) certainly give the impression that Beane is looking to establish organizational credibility in a hurry. Now, obviously appearances can be deceiving, but IMO it's a good start for him.
  22. if he was concerned about that, wouldn't he have been just as likely to sign with NE or Miami?
  23. Whatever last night's leftovers may be; nearly always some combination of grass fed beef, sulfurous veggies, and potatoes or rice.
  24. The only caveat here is the health of his knee--it's difficult to keep weight under control if you can't work out your lower body.
  25. Buffalo's run game spent a fair amount of time in zone schemes last year; it won't be a huge adjustment from a schematic perspective: http://www.buffalorumblings.com/2017/3/15/14933170/buffalo-bills-lesean-mccoy-mike-gillislee-rick-dennison-run-game-zone-blocking
