The True reason to fire McDermott
thebandit27 replied to cgg716's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Isn't it possible that he talks about running and defense because, right now, that's this team's only path to victory? I agree that his vision for the offense is unclear at best, and a total miss at worst, but--to me--that's symptomatic of an offensive unit with zero talent. Now, that's ultimately of his own making, but we're all fooling ourselves if we think he isn't very likely to get a 3rd year to surround Allen with talent that will prove him to be a success or failure. -
Someone needs to be fired over Mahomes right now.

I literally just explained it to you Do you honestly expect to spam the board nonstop and be treated with kid gloves? -

I'll explain it again: You didn't get mocked for liking Mahomes; half the board loved Mahomes. You got mocked for incessantly professing love for him nonstop in many threads day in and day out, and taking on a phony me-against-the-world diatribe that nobody could talk you down from. -
If Collinsworth weren't firmly entrenched in that SNF gig, that would go to Romo in a heartbeat. I don't know one person that doesn't love listening to Romo call a game.

No worries--memories have a way of betraying us -

Actually, in light of how well the Pegulas have managed their franchises, does this really surprise you? Terry might give his input on player matters, but--for better or worse--he lets his people make the call. -

My understanding (and take this however you like) is that Whaley ran that draft. FWIW, Leroi was adamant that that was the case as well. -

Your memory appears to be 180-degrees opposite of what was reported: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2707036-doug-whaley-passing-on-patrick-mahomes-rumored-to-be-final-straw-before-firing According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the final straw for former Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley came during the first round of the NFL draft on Thursday, when he traded the No. 10 selection to the Kansas City Chiefs rather than draft quarterback Patrick Mahomes. According to that report, owner Terry Pegula "loved" Mahomes and "stumped hard" for him. -

I like Romo, but I have no idea why he'd leave the booth to coach. He can write his own paycheck and work stress-free for as long as he wants.

I fail to see how there's a last-word component here. What you've said simply isn't true. You don't get further away by giving up assets, since the team isn't going anywhere without a QB. A team without a franchise QB isn't in the conversation regardless. A team with a franchise QB will always be in the conversation. It's not a letter-grade situation; it's pass/fail. -

Um, thanks? The point here is really simple: you don't get further away by being wrong. -

We don't agree You claimed that if Allen isn't the guy then the is regime set the team back due to how much they gave up; it's not true There's no such thing as a guarantee when picking QBs, so you need to be prepared to accept that you may not get it right. If you want to call that "setting the team back", go for it. I call it taking your shot, because getting the QB decision right is literally the only way to put together a perennial contender. You can only get closer by getting it right at QB; you don't get further away by getting it wrong -

I can't agree that the team is set back in any way if Allen doesn't work out You aren't going anywhere without a QB anyway, so the only impact is that you'd be drafting later by winning 7-9 games instead of 4-6. If Allen isn't the guy, then the next regime gets to take their shot at a QB in 2020. -

You must've missed the part where I said "no *****. I pounded the table for Mahomes". But they didn't pick Mahomes, and they needed to take a shot at a QB, so they did what was necessary. Because in the NFL, you aren't winning anything without a franchise QB, and they weren't getting one of the top 4 without moving into the top 10. -

In order: yes, how so? yes, two 2nd round picks. So what? no *****. I pounded the table for Mahomes yep, big deal. You get it wrong at QB and you try again in 2 years. Keep going until you get it right right, and THATS the mistake. Not having a contingency plan is what sets the team back, not getting the QB pick wrong -

How so? The simple fact is that it will do no such thing. The only thing that could set the team back is if they have no contingency plan at the position.
