  1. I was hoping that when Pegula took over we would see a full cleanse of the front office for the most part. I thought bringing in a well experienced football exec ("czar" as many made reference to) was much needed. Apparently Polian was slated to take the job and someone was "bad mouthing" him. However you feel on Polian taking over, that should not sit right. So all the bluster happened. I loved the Ryan hire, loved the FA acquisitions and the hype.... but it seems to have staled out and it looks like we have taken a few steps back. The Bills were in a spot where they would give teams like the Bengals and Pats trouble at home... and win games like the one vs the Giants. They werent competitive in any of those games despite a few late rushes. Defense is awful now if you take into account money invested and quality of player in the defense. Its wrecked. This situation really reminds me of the 2011-12 Sabres. The Sabres needed change, Pegula took over, the team went on a run at the end of the year and qualified for the playoffs. A lot of money poured in, hype, etc without any of the real needed changes and the team fell flat on their face with no solution until the gradual cleansing of the front office. Now Brandon... I dont believe he is going anywhere. He has been installed as president of both the Sabres and the Bills.... recently. This organization still does not have a rudder. All the leaks last season undermining Marrone, Whaley, etc... then this year you have someone leaking out that Manuel is playing to compete for the permanent starting spot, Whaley is "rogue", etc. The whole Cassel thing and Freddie thing kind of blowing up in their faces. Things like forgetting batteries for the in-game communications system. I want someone at the top who can build a winning football program.
  2. That's where my mind keeps going. I bought in and believed things were destined for greatness but we are still stuck in the same rut with the same management... only with more resources. Very similar to the sabres' purchase.
  3. So bills-ey. No surprise they were specifically named in that espn article as an easy target of the pats because they are unsophisticated.
  4. It'll be yet another riveting season of watching in November and December to see how long we are listed "in the hunt". So so tired of this
  5. At least last place is very familiar What are we staring at like 6 of 7 years thete? In a 4 team division? This is like a dynasty. I really can't expect anything different to come out of there
  6. The bills tipping their hand like this makes me think that it is not good. Either that or the organization is a giant bozo. If they were on the same page the bills would say he is hurt, stayed home to try to rehab. We will see after the bye week where he stands.
  7. What do we want to hear? Them rant about declaring the season over and running rex ryan out of town?
  8. This is actually really good news
  9. Yup. They look good. The right players look good. Sam reinhart turning the corner is the beast thing that could have possibly come from the Florida trip...
  10. there are certainly problems with our medical system and pharmaceuticals. I have witnessed too many people depend on medication for pain instead of dealing with problems the harder way (getting in shape). Tolerance leads to more pills, which leads to other prescriptions to counteract those and something else to counteract that.... In too many cases, IMO doctors are too quick to prescribe and too many people have addictive personalities and go down the vortex. When I had my ACL reconstructed, I remember having to consciously stop taking my prescription because I realized I didn't much have pain anymore and I just wanted the pill. Not everyone does that and with chronic pain... But the stance that we need to get rid of our doctors and protect our children from evil vaccines is foolish and not based on reality.
  11. if science is evil and everyone is "big pharma sheep" then why is life expectancy going upward?
  12. actually, Pittsburgh really didnt tank for Crosby. They were just really bad and in financial turmoil (in danger of relocation). The lockout year happened leading into the Crosby draft and they had a whole system of odds based on a 3 season average on a few factors. Buffalo had an equal shot at Crosby as Pittsburgh. Bad for a number of years, numerous high picks. Chicago just had awful ownership and stockpiled a lot of picks and hit on some.... also got very fortunate in the lottery to leapfrog Philly and get Kane while Philly got JVR. Now, the Penguins' tank for Lemieux is legendary and sets the standard. As far as Buffalo goes, look at it this way. We had to suffer through a lot of seasons of middling, trying to make the playoffs for the extra revenue, just trying to reach break-even. For years, assets were lost for nothing or limited returns. Draft position was always mid-draft... following the Hasek years of drafting pretty low. We havent had a superstar skater since LaFontaine, which was pretty fairly brief and injury-riddled. Mogilny's one crazy season too. Other superstar was Perreault. That is 45 years. The organization was completely stagnated by Regier, Ruff, and that group of players. They couldnt just remove one or the other. They tried to covet top free agents but they werent interested (Doan, Richards, Parise, Suter, etc). The entire thing needed to be blown out. That is what they did. Superstar 17-18 year olds were there, who could grow with the city and be captive until at least UFA status. Once the team gets good and word spreads that Buffalo is a good place, UFAs will sign and NTCs will be waived.
  13. I dont know whats up with Cassel, but there was probably more going on behind the scenes than meets the eye. I wonder if they had kind of an agreement when he re-signed here that if there was an appealing spot for him and a trade was to be had then Whaley would do right by him?
  14. While I agree that the patriots' "success" in no way passes the smell test, the nfl isn't going anywhere but up anytime soon.
  15. Can't fathom that eichel is going to get even better. He is going to be an all time great.
  16. I would be completely fine with no replays in any sport. I love the variance of human error. I'd feel the same way if my teams get screwed and or my fantasy and gambling interests get screwed
  17. I think the general thought is if the umpire didnt make the incorrect call, Utley could have in theory decided to go back and occupy second if he knew he was safe. He was called out so he went to the dugout.
  18. same here. Maybe I'm poisoned due to the Tannehill vs Buffalo sample space... but Tannehill to me isn't going to take off and get to the next level. Without that defense performing at a top-5 level... that team is a sitting duck on everyone's schedule. Not all that different than the Bills... but IMO T Mobile is still a bit of an unknown which gives him a higher ceiling, and we also have a lot of offensive weapons over Miami.
  19. they are privately owned. They do not franchise. Im not sure how it is now... but about 25 years ago some people I know wanted to open one on grand Island and the owners said no way. Mighty Taco's time to strike is in the past IMO. A lot of better options out there in big markets and MT has declined in quality in the past 20 years. Got the nostalgia/culture factor here in WNY... and we also had almost no tex-mex options forever.
  20. Murder House had a great first 6 episodes or so, then petered out, and got outright stupid at the end. Asylum was my favorite. Beginning to end I thought it was outstanding. Coven was OK. I ended up losing interest about 2/3 of the way through though and never finished, and never watched the Freak Show one.
  21. No such thing as a bad win on the road on the nfl
  22. I think the fact it occurred in and decided a playoff game between the biggest 2 markets will trump the superstar factor
  23. I agree. Don't really have a dog in the fight but this was an unfortunate and unfair thing to happen to the mets. I'm sure the rules will change this winter around breaking up a double play. I also agree that video review has no place in baseball
  24. The rule apparently is on a blown call there that is overturned, the runner is awarded the base even if he didn't touch it. Imo that slide was way over the top and dirty.
