  1. I think that two QB's go before pick number 6. Darnold to Cleveland and Rosen to the Jets. Giants go RB, Browns at 4 are open for trade. Does Arizona come up from 15 and get the 3rd QB?. If so Broncos and Colts take Nelson/Chubb to fulfill big holes in their rosters. Now let's play the guessing game: 1. If Arizona trades up, who do they prefer, Allen, Mayfield or Jackson. If it's Jackson the Bills should trade from 12 to 7 and give pick 56 to go get the best LB in the draft in Tremaine Edmunds. If Arizona goes Allen or Mayfield, then stay at 12 because here is how I think picks 7-11 will go. 7 Tampa Bay - Needs in secondary and part rush, Denzel Ward best CB, Marcus Davenport best edge player. Because they are developing Noah Spence on the edge I'm guessing they go with the CB in Denzel Ward 8 Chicago - Used free agency to add targets for young QB. Have needs on OL and defensive front 7. Best player available is Tremaine Edmunds who gives the Bears a potentially great inside LB to match up OLB/Edge Rush Leonard Floyd. 9 San Francisco - Needs are at WR, as Goodwin and Garcin are ok but not elite, and S. LB is in play with the legal issues with Reuben Foster. Lost Eric Reid in free agency or will soon so I'm seeing S Derwin James as a great fit based on best player available at a position of need. 10 Oakland - Front 7 on D issues, need sideline to sideline LB and help in the secondary. Made some moves in free agency to shore up both positions but Roquan Smith is available and a perfect fit for the Raider defense. 11 Miami - Needs all over, brought in two slot receivers to replace Jarvis Landry, brought in pieces to help O line after losing Mike Pouncey. My thought is big hole at DT with the cutting of Suh. I believe Vita Vea is the pick here. Lots of talk about Mayfield here but they just adjusted Tannehills contract and back loaded it so I feel they have him for two more years and my guess is Mayfield gets selected by Arizona when they trade up. 12 Buffalo - Stay put and run the card to the podium to select Lamar Jackson to be our answer at QB. Of all the highly rated quarterbacks I believe his skill set plays well in today's NFL. Had great college coaching, lots of snaps under center, had complex offense at Louisville with an emphasis on using the RPO style of offense that I believe Brian Daboll wants to run here. Here are my picks without comment on picks 13-21 13 Washington- Marcus Davenport 14 Green Bay - Cortland Sutton 15 Cleveland - Mike McGlinthy (replacement for Joe Thomas) 16 Baltimore - Calvin Ridley (with Crabtree and John Brown signings could go RB) 17 LA Chargers - DeRon Payne 18 Seattle - Isaiah Oliver 19 Dallas - DJ Chark 20 Detroit - Darrius Guice 21 Cincinnati - James Daniels 22 Buffalo - LB Leighton Vander Edge, love this pick as the new QB of the McDermotts defense, big at 6'4", 256, speed at 4.58, athletic and explosive with 39.5 inch vertical jump and under 6.9 second 3 cone drill. game tape matches combine measurable. Smart and cerebral and will be awesome addition to our roster. Thoughts and comments always welcome
  2. Hey thank you for the thumbs up. Been a Bills fan since 1963, I'm 60 now and have the feeling that we are at the beginning of a era that will lead to becoming a playoff force for the next 5 to 7 years. Looking at the evolution of the NFL, the current model is a great QB and a well-coached team like New England, or a team with a deep roster and an above average QB. The breakdown is teams like NE, Pitt, LAC, Dry, GB, ATL, SEA are built around a top tier QB, the rest are building a roster to support their QB, with the Saints even moving in that direction. I see the Bills building a strong team bottom to top with the QB being a very important but complimentary piece in the overall team. Thats why this draft is critical.
  3. AJ McCaran will be the starting QB in 2018, our rookie QB will learn, get coached up and get some reps during the year. There will be a quality QB available at the 12th pick and if the Bills go for needs a LB at 22, a speed WR at 53, a 3 technique DT at 56 and picks at slot corner and interior offensive line follow at 65 and 96. Far better outcome then trading up and giving up your draft choices for a QB who is rated comparably to The Who you get at 12.
  4. Lamar Jackson in my opinion has the greatest upside of all this years draft class. His skill set, experience under center and working in a pro-style offense in college makes him ready to challenge for a starting role this fall. Plus there is a very high probability he will be available with the 12th pick. This leaves the Bills with 5 more picks in the first two days of the draft. This is in my opinion the best way to build the team into a championship contender.
  5. I don't want to trade up because I believe the best QB in the draft will fall to us at 12 and he is Lamar Jackson.
  6. This would be a ridiculous trade. Giving up 4 picks to get your "Franchise QB", how do you propose getting the players you need to fill the holes on the roster? Have you given this any consideration or is your savior QB gonna fix the gaping hole at LB, OL or WR. Give me your solution to those issues.
  7. This is exactly the pathway the Bills should take. Stay at 12, take Lamar Jackson. Let him develop more physically and learn the offense. Play him in certain packages to get him time in game situations. Use 22 for a top linebacker such as Leighton Vander Esch or Rasean Evans. Use 53 and 56 on OL and WR Use 65 and 96 on CB and DT Six potential contributors at position of need and how do the Bills look in relation to the Jets and Dolphins.
  8. Sadly, when the Jets "Franchise QB", looks to hand off who does he give the ball too, oh yeah all those quality RB's available in the 2nd round they could have drafted aren't available so he hands to Isaac Crowell or Bilal Powell.  When he drops back to pass, he sees immediate pressure from the sieve they call their starting offensive line.  If he manages to avoid the sack he looks downfield and sees none of his receivers open as they don't have the ability to separate.

By the end of the year he may be shell shocked like David Carr or Jeff George and then he becomes another 1st round QB bust.

Prefer the roster building approach and let a young QB learn with quality players around him.

  9. The majority of posters seem to want to employ a strategy of trading most of our picks for the right to draft "a franchise QB". The Jets just made a move that almost ensures additional years of losing football with a young QB playing short handed with a weak roster and all the expectations in the world. No offensive weapons to use, poor offensive line, holes all over the front 7 on defense. The Bills are now in a position to do the opposite, draft to fill the roster with young cost-controlled players to add to the talent base they have. Six picks in the first 96. Chance to get QB, LB, CB, DT, OL and WR. Why would you choose the pathway the Jets are taking which pretty much ensures competition with the Dolphins for last place in the AFC East. Love to read your thoughts on this.
  10. Wow, deep feedback. How long did it take you to figure that out.
  11. If Browns take Barkley at 1, does this shift the Giants to QB? The first 5 picks in whatever order will be: Darnold Barkley Rosen Chubb Nelson
  12. Browns probably take Chubb at 4, Broncos go Nelson at 5. Who would Colts go with now, or would they be open to a trade?
  13. Based on need, Broncos stay at 5 and take Quinten Nelson. Improves interior line, improves running game and is a "win now" kind of pick
  14. The Colts in my opinion had their eyes on the extra picks the Jests were willing to give more so then a specific player. If Chubb or Nelson were available at 6, they would pick whomever is left. If Barkley, Chubb and Nelson are gone who would the Colts want at 6, no one of value more then trading down again and adding picks. They already got 2 additional 2nd round picks in 2018 and one in 2019. A fair trade to move from 12 to 6 is the 53rd pick. For the gentlemen who scoffed at selecting a linebacker, if you could get a Luke Keachly, Brian Urlachet, Ray Lewis, Patrick Willis linebacker and still select a top QB why would you not do that. Tremain Edmunds has off the charts measureables, great game tape, is only 19 and has amazing potential with great coaching. Thoughts?
  15. If the Bills trade pick 12 and 53 to the Colts and get the 6th pick and select: 6 - LB - Tremaine Edmunds 22 - Best available QB based on which falls, Darnold & Rosen are taken by Browns and Jets respectively. Broncos take Quinten Nelson, Dolphins don't take QB as they are financially committed to Tannehill for 2 more years due to salary cap ramifications. Cardinals have choice between Allen, Mayfield, Jackson and Rudolph. Nobody else has QB as it highest priority from picks 7-14 and 16-21. Three are left on the board at 22, who are you taking?
  16. All players of course have bust potential. Some due to lack of either physical skills, emotional maturity or bad situations/coaching. Look at all the Browns number 1 picks over the past few years. None remain with the team. So, great player assessment as to scheme fit, great coaching and proper environment provide the best chance for success. History shows that most (not all) QB's need some time as a back-up to grow into their rolls. WR's usually take a year or two to learn NFL route trees, RB, CB are quickest to be ready as their physical skills allow them to excel.
  17. I look at the top 6 QB's and honestly by their 2nd season the difference between Darnold, Rosen, Allen, Mayfield and Jackson is not worth the loss of draft capitol and fill other needs by making a significant move above the Jets. Rudolph, White, Lauretta and Falk are tier two QB's a step below the top 5 and have a longer projected development cycle. As an older fan (60) and watching Bills games since 1963 I want to continue to grow and get better and not take a step back in 2018. To me, none of the 9 QB's I listed have the ability to lift the 2018 team to improve on 9-7 and a 1st round playoff loss. Next years team, enhanced by a great free agency class and rock solid draft has the chance to compete for the AFC East title and go further in the playoffs. If AJ plays well, he can be dealt for 2019 draft choices and the huge amount of cap space will allow for major additions with a young and developed QB and turn the team into a real Super Bowl Contender.
  18. This team has needs that can be addressed in the 2018 draft. Our QB performance looks as though it will improve from last years erratic performance from Tyrod. We have plugged some hole on D during free agency and have 8 picks in the first 5 rounds. i think if we stay at 12, we can get Lamar Jackson who I believe has Michael Vick type skills and just needs to learn and get physically stronger in his role as 2nd string and "Change the tempo" series of downs when inserted into games. At 22, I'm hoping either Leighton Vander Esch or Rashean Evans is available to be our sideline to sideline MLB and QB of the defense. Picks 53, 56, 65 and 96 can fill important spots at OL, WR, CB and DT. This is the way to truly build a strong top to bottom roster with depth to make a run at ending the Patriots hold on the AFC East.
  19. To ChuckWagon and BuffaloRush, thank you for your juvenile responses. Why not take some time and read the scouting reports, review the performance at the combine and watch some game tape before you jump in with opinions that have no supporting fact to back them up. it appears you are both in the "trade up at whatever the cost", forgetting the additional needs at LB, Deep Threat WR, zone slot corner, OT and OG/C and a 3 technique DT to split snaps with KW in his last season. Please give me your plan if you can formulate one and actually articulate it into a written response. Stupid fans and their idiot opinions seldom make the team better.
  20. Let's assess the current situation. Browns and Jets take QB at 1 and 3. Darnold at one - Small hands, long wind-up release which leads to QB pressures, Abd turnovers. May not be correctable. Let's all remember Brian Leftwich of Jacksonville who had an incorrect able long windup before he threw. However has great leadership and intangibles, above average pocket presence and good feet. I don't like him in cold weather games with the 9 & 1/8 inch hands. Rosen at three - Concussion history, less then desirable NFL Arm strength. Lacks pocket awareness, not an inspirational leader type and not well liked by teammates. Has great accuracy, throws a nice ball to all levels. Comes from serious family money and may bail if injury prone. Giants feel they can turn things around and by getting healthy and getting Barkley they believe makes them playoff contenders Browns at four - Could be looking to trade down to find CB or LT. If they stay at 4 feel that Bradley Chubb may be the guy to add to the edge rush crew they have. See Arizona as prime candidate as trade partner so they can get a QB. Would cost Cardinals their 1st and 2nd this year and next years one. Broncos at five - Quinten Nelson is in play here if they pick, generational guard and guard is becoming far more important to prevent inside pressure and open holes for inside running game. Don't think they are looking for a QB as they feel they can compete now. Colts at six - If Bills come up it would be here to get their choice of top LB of their choice. Cost would be pick 12 and 53. Leaves picks 22,56,65 and 95 in 1st 3 rounds. As in all of my posts, looking for your thoughts on my takes.
  21. Sam Darnold - Andrew Luck Josh Rosen - Trent Green Josh Allen - Jake Locker Baker Mayfield - Doug Flutie Lamar Jackson - Michael Vick Hmmmmm, who do you want?
  22. We are not screwed, stay at 12, 22, 53, 56, 65, 96 12 - Lamar Jackson, let him develop as a back-up and "change of pace" QB for various situations 22 - Leighton Vander Esch - QB of our defense, big, fast, smart, great measureables at the combine that matches what's on the game tape 53 - DJ Chark - Deep threat WR needed, size, great speed fantastic compliment to Kelvin Benjamin, Charles Clay and Jay Jones in the slot 56 - Best CB available that's a zone corner type, they stay not drafted in relation to press cover corners 65 - RJ McIntosh - 3 technique DT that can penetrate and replace KW next year 96 - Frank Ragnow - big powerful center to help the depth and develop to move Groy to C/G back-up thoughts
  23. Thank you Magox, I appreciate your response. Colts and Bills swap now would allow Beene to trade up in front of Chicago and get the best LB on the board and give up only only the pick at 12 and 53. I believe there will be a developmental QB available at 22 (Rudolph) or even Jackson as the only real QB possibility is Arizona at 15 and if they trade up with Denver you could even have Allen or Mayfield drop that far.
  24. I did respond on other posts and created this topic to give actual football fans some things to consider with teams needs and potential ramifications for the Bills.
