  1. I wouldn't put to much into preseason stats, especially when the Bills were down by so many points and the opposing team expecting them to pass to try and catch up, then considering the Redskins were also implementing a new 3-4 defensive scheme... After Lynch and Jackson went out, aside from Spiller will any of those players who made the rushing yards against the Redskins even make the team? On another note looking at both teams and their respective players I would have thought that the Bills secondary would have played better then they did Anyway, I just can't share your optimism about Gailey and his offensive scheme as I haven't seen anything yet to make me think this years offense will be any better then last years.
  2. I hear ya dog, while I would love to see the Buffalo Bills build a dominate rushing attack like the Jets, Titans and Ravens have, they will still need a really good O line to do that...like the Titans, Ravens and Jets have. Even with a great O line and power running game a team will still need an offense that can convert a 3rd down passing when needed, if they don't have tackles that will allow them to convert the 3rd and longs... they simply won't win. Opposing teams will simply stack the box and crowd the line to stop the run and force the team to throw. While one preseason loss doesn't prove anything, I was expecting more from Gaily in the passing offense.
  3. a world of difference between them and the players who took the field... All 3 "starters" could play against Indy Thursday night, lets see what changes
  4. Tyler Pigpen or something like that..
  5. I was thinking the same thing as the Bills lost both Jackson and Lynch to injuries, and when they went down it screwed the running game and protections. But then again isn't that what an offensive minded HC was supposed to do, make the offensive passing game better so they can convert those 3rd downs?
  6. The Bills already had a decent running game under Jauron as several posters here have pointed to me the last 6 mo, while proclaiming all the team needed was a QB change. The Bills were 16th overall in rushing last season and 30th in passing offense, and 27th in scoring. The Colts were the worst team in the NFL last season in rushing offense at 32, next was San Diego at 31, The Colts went 14-2 and the Chargers went 13-3...The NFL is now a passing league as the Colts were #2 in passing and the Chargers #5 in passing offense. While I'm all for a dominate running attack like the Ravens and Jets had last year, the team won't win unless they can convert 3rd and long.
  7. Not for nothing, how many concussions has Aaron Rodgers endured playing for the Packers? It is also like comparing night to day in comparing Buffalo's offense to Green Bay's... The Packers have a very bright innovative offensive mind in Mike McCarthy and his OC, plus they run a great scheme. The Packers play an enhanced version of the "West Coast"offense in that they pass first and run deeper passing routes. The Packers have one of the very best receiving corps in the NFL along with a decent O line and running game. Look at the difference in the Packers early in the year and late in the year when they didn't have their experienced Left Tackle, the team lost a bunch of games without him. Then once he returned from an injury the team started winning games again. Yeah, the left tackle is that important. Besides, Rodgers was able to sit on the bench for 4 years learning his craft while watching the legend Brett Favre play. Edwards like many other Bills QB's were thrown into the fray and expected to carry the team from day one, the running game can't make a first down so they expect the young inexperienced QB to make first downs and win for them.
  8. From what I saw of the Bills offense on Friday night....it looked basically the same offense we have seen since forever. What I expected from a new offensive minded HC was to crap-can the offensive playbook like Mike Shanhan would have, and have the players learn an entire new offensive system. From what I saw that didn't happen, the Bills ran the same old system, same plays only with a different language. It now makes sense to me as to why Chan Gailey is keeping the incumbent QB's and didn't draft a Clausen-McCoy et al. Clearly he thinks he can coach up the current players to a higher level and is taking the very same road that Jauron took in thinking continuity. What he doesn't understand is that although AVP and Turk Schonert were both very inexperienced at play calls and game planning, they both were very experienced at understanding the QB position and coaching that position. From hearing Gailey talk he is under the impression that Dick Jauron's teams lacked discipline and didn't play hard. On the contrary the Bills players played very tough and hard for Jauron, if anything the problem with his teams is they lacked great schemes, both offensive and defensive. From the one game we all saw Chan Gailey didn't bring anything new and innovative into the stale old podunk offense us fans have had to endure since the Kim Kelly-Ted Marchibroda era. Before Friday's Game I was slightly uncertain as to whether or not Spiller would have the impact Gailey boasted he would have in making that O line better simply by adding a blazing RB. Now I'm almost 100% certain his offenses won't succeed until they upgrade both tackle positions, and forget about adding any new QB until they do. If you think I'm wrong...take a long hard look at the Rams this season with a 50 million dollar guaranteed QB in Sam Bradford, money that team can flush if he gets severely injured. Lastly, go back and look at what success Gailey had at Kansas City running that offense...then you will know what to expect this year from the Bills.
  9. My take is nobody was willing to pay him what he felt he was worth, so he retired. I'll bet if some injuries start to plague the Texans along the D line and they offer him a contract close to what he made as a Bill... he will play again.
  10. Here here I've been saying the very same thing since they drafted Maybin... then they didn't draft a tackle till round 5 this past draft. They will continue to stink until they draft some top tackles.
  11. Its not just a problem with the QB when the team only has one decent experienced WR, and a poor O line. The entire first string team needs to work to get better, and get healthy.
  12. It took John Elway a few years to learn that Shanahan "West Coast" offense and even then the Bronco's needed Terrell Davis and a dominate running game to win the SB. I suspect it will take McNabb some time to adjust to that very complicated offensive scheme and their TE Chris Cooley will be the main target until the WR's learn the offense. Anyway, I do believe that the Redskins will be division contenders this year because of their coaching,JMO. Conversely, I see the Bills easily duplicating their Friday night performance again and again because of their coaching. I just wonder where all the Bills fans are that stated they were OK with a 3 year rebuilding plan from Nix / Gailey...
  13. http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2010081351/2...le=HP_headlines Most of the posts I've read here the last few months have either been very optimistic about the coaching changes with the thoughts that the Bills will improve because Jauron was a moron and any change would be an improvement. The other thoughts were that this season and next season were going to be rebuilding seasons to restock the team with better players while the coaches learn their respective jobs and train the players in Gaileys new offense and the new 3-4 defense. We all know the Redskins were in the exact same situation as the Buffalo Bills with a... new head coach, new schemes... new offense... new 3-4 defense... and yet the Redskins with a new QB were able to rout the Bills. The answer... The difference between the Redskins and Bills is that one team has a much more experienced coaching staff. Jim Haslett is the DC of the skins... you know the ex HC of the Saints/ Rams, and the Bills have the Dolphins LB coach who is their DC. Shanny won some super bowls as HC and was fired because his team didn't make the playoffs... the Bills HC was fired as OC after his offense went 2-14. The very least we can do as fans is to give this new staff of coaches time to learn their jobs and coach up the players because obviously this is going to take some time... or not! What bothers me the most is that Jimmy Clausen the rookie... looked way better then TE, but then again TE has to unlearn his 4 years with the dickhead.
  14. It doesn't matter, we already know what Freddy can do This will actually give Spiller more reps to get ready for the up coming season
  15. Funny how the Redskins are in the same situation as the Bills... new HC and staff... changing scheme form a 4-3 to a 3-4...new offensive scheme. Yet one team looked so much better then the other...
  16. It gets me that not many here seem to be aware of that
  17. Delete please
  18. You guys seem to have forgotten... This is the same guy who was fired as OC after his offense went 2-14 with the Chiefs, only the Buffalo Bills would promote a guy to head coach who was just fired from his last job while in a lesser position. I realize it was only a preseason game, but it showed the more experienced coaching on both sides of the ball.
  19. The guy has previous NFL & college head coaching experience, so he knows the right things to say to keep everyone optimistic about the team. He knows QB's and offense so he knows and understands what it takes to move the chains. My problem is he didn't draft to rebuild the most important aspect of the offense and that is the offensive line. We all have seen in camp that Trent Edwards can be an effective QB when he is not getting hammered every passing play. He made a statement about his new RB Spiller, that a dynamic RB can make an O line better, I still don't see how Spiller can give Edwards the time he needs to throw. So I suppose we will soon see Friday night against the Redskins if Gailey can get this offense rolling. If not Friday, hopefully before pre season ends.
  20. I agree Head coach Chan Gailey certinly has his work cut out for him this season as he needs to wear many hats in help almost in every area of the team. Most NFL coaches work an 80+ hour week just doing their own job, this HC needs to train his coaches as well as his players. Due to the inexperience of the offensive coaches might be the reason why so many here remain skeptical about how well the O line will play this year, that and the fact so many of the O linemen lack playing experience also. I know I would have been feeling better about the season had the Bills invested a lower draft pick for the LT position then a #5, and perhaps even drafted a RT early this year as well.
  21. This must be the thread where everyone wears rose colored glasses ahhh hope springs eternal before every season starts. Honestly guys I wish I could share your optimism... but I just can't. Let me just say that should the 2010 Buffalo Bills win more games then last seasons Rams or Lions did, then they will have exceeded my expectations
  22. Where exactly did I state that talent alone wins games, I didn't and don't know where you got that from. What I did say is you need good to great players to win, there is no question that fact is true. Like I said, show me one NFL team that wins with bad players!! What I think you inferred from what I stated about the new Bills rookie O line coach is coaching doesn't matter, I did not say that! On the contrary coaching matters a great deal, it can make a difference to a team no question. What I think you fail to comprehend is the Bills currently have no great coaches on their staff. The new DC is the LB coach from the Dolphins, you know the team that had trouble keeping teams out of the end zone last season. The new OC has no NFL experience as do several other coaches as they only have college coaching experience. The Bills currently don't have a strong coaching staff as many of them have NO NFL experience, Chan Gailey will call plays and set up offensive game plans until the new OC learns how to do his job. This entire Bills coaching staff will be learning on the job this season, just like most of the players.
  23. No to the first part and yes to the second. To the first part...what coach do you think is going to turn these players into another Jason Peters, you mean the assistant line coach from KC who is now the line coach of the Bills... a guy learning to do his job? To the second part...yea, you do need good to great talent to win in the NFL. Show me one team that wins with bad players. The Bills are lacking talent on the O line, at both tackle positions and center. There is a world of difference between a 5th - 7th round player and a 1st-2nd round player. The formers are usually projects that are going to take much longer to develop properly, if they develop at all.
  24. These guys play in the NFL, you can't hide bad players...other teams will find and exploit their weakness. The same can be said about offensive schemes, this isn't college where you can adjust the plays to make up for talent. The Bills can try and run more and try and throw more quick outs and slants, those will only carry them so far before they are shut down. Teams need balance in run game and passing game, right now the Bills don't have a deep passing game simply because the QB's won't have more then 3 seconds to throw on 3rd and long. The Bills are going into this year with basically the same line they had last season, so to the homies who think the line can't play worse then last season...feel free to pop some cold ones and not worry at all
  25. Why do the QB's in camp wear red jersey's... they basically play "touch football" because the team doesn't want their own players whacking them and getting injured. So far Edwards or any Bills QB is going to look good in camp because he/ they are only getting touched...and not hit, hammered, pounded on or concussed. So in reality we will need to see how the QB's will perform in those pre season games, and also see how that O line performs before we can make a fair assessment of how the offense will do this season. Will the protections be good... will the rookie RB learn all his blocking assignments? Will the QB have time to throw... will the receivers get open, and will the QB be able to find them? Will the new scheme allow the team to run and pass the ball more effectively and score? Friday the 13th, 7:30 PM at Washington
