  1. Jacobs is big and tall and doesn't fit the mold of the prototype NFL RB, plus he runs high and takes a hella pounding, the guy is 6'4" 264 My take is he will still get lots of carries.... don't forget he is pissed and hungry now that he is 2nd string. Both he and Ward rushed for over 1000 yards in 08
  2. why would the Bills sign a guy who is more then likely out for the season with injuries....the reason he was cut
  3. Good ole Vic... was watching around the league yesterday and Vic stated he thinks the Bills will upset the Dolphins So do I, if the offense plays like it did the last 3 preseason games the Bills have a great chance to "Squish the fish" Gailey on RB's from NFL network http://www.nfl.com/videos/buffalo-bills/09000d5d81a5b21b/Gailey-has-interesting-comparison-for-RB-pick
  4. I was all upset at the fact the Bills didn't pursue top tackles early in this years draft and have felt very negative about the Bills this season because of that... These last few preseason games Gailey has shown me that his QB's can run an effective offense without utilizing the 5-7 step drop backs that were used in Jarons/Schonerts/AVPs (Mike Martz style) offense in last few years Bills passing attack. We already know Spiller-Jackson-Lynch will be a 3 headed monster running attack that can get the job done running and receiving outta the backfield. To watch Trent Edwards hit Lee Evans on a 40 yard go route up the sideline in 2.5-3 seconds tells me this offense just might be OK with the current tackles, plus you add in CJ Spiller who will keep the defense honest and stop them from playing constant nickle and dime coverages to stop the big passing play. This is not the same podunk offense we are used to watching under Jauron, its not the same scheme or the same play caller. Gailey has shown these last three games that someone has finally found a way to get Roscoe Parrish the ball in space, something Bills fans have wanted to see since he was drafted. Both Lee Evans and Parrish have very good speed and can run go routes to open up the underneath for Spiller and the WR's. The last three preseason games could be a glimpse of gameday this Sunday...which is what I'm hoping for. Now they just need to show everyone they can run that offense for 60 minutes.
  5. He has won me over so far, it really all comes down to wins and losses though. I know Id feel better about this season if the Bills had invested in two tackles early in the draft and that was my main dislike of his approach to this season. If the guy can get his QB's to release the ball successfully to the receivers in 3 seconds and under like they have in the preseason, then the tackle position for pass blocking won't be as important as it was under Jauron.
  6. Any opinion based on last seasons Dick Jauron offense is just lame, lets see what the Bills offense looks like this year with a real offensive minded head coach
  7. While I certainly agree that Edwards needs to show he can be the leader this team needs over a complete season. I also think he is positioned to do just that this year, provided of course the offensive line can adequately protect him. You remain skeptical about the QB, while I remain skeptical about the O line. While many are putting Edwards in the 25-32 category, if well protected this season he could easily be in the 15-25 category, JMO. Going back to my point about concussions and my thinking is even slight concussions can cause problems and have lingering effects that the NFL and world class scientists studying the effects of concussions still don't understand. Post-traumatic stress can also have an effect on a player after getting knocked around like a whack- a-mole game after game. I'm not giving excuses for some of his bad play, just stating reasons as to why he might be somewhat shell shocked after playing in Jaurons offense. I don't think we will see many 5-7 step drops this season or Edwards holding the ball and waiting for a receiver to break open this year.
  8. Chan Gailey stated that Edwards is "one tough guy" after watching him get sacked and knocked around in one preseason game. He had his helmet knocked off and chipped a tooth, Gailey came over and asked him if he was OK, Edwards stated "yeah coach ready to go in there again". Ya gotta understand that Edwards is much more developed then Brian Brohm and has much more playing experience, plus he is much more accurate then Fitz. Edwards has basically been under heavy duress every year he has played in college and the NFL. The one area of my greatest concern about Edwards and the reason I'm constantly complaining about the O line... is that the guy has 2 maybe 3 more concussions in him before his career is over in the NFL. Had he played last year while still suffering symptoms of that 2nd concussion he could be finished right now! I'm glad he sat out last season to fully recover. Look back at some of the great QB's and think about what ended their NFL careers... Jim Kelly-Troy Aikman- Steve Young- all suffered many concussions during their careers, and those QB's all had their careers ended because of the fear of prolonged mental problems due to head trauma. Judging by what I've seen over the past 20 years it looks to be around 5-6 concussions depending on the severity and how long they were kept out after suffering one before they are done. Kelly, who had a career-low 14 touchdown passes and a career-high 19 interceptions last season, cannot remember the final play of his career. He sustained a concussion after fumbling twice on the same play before being sacked in a playoff loss to Jacksonville. http://www.nytimes.c...r-11-years.html At an emotional press conference held at Texas Stadium, Troy choked back tears as he said, "I know it's the right thing. I know it's the right thing for me because of my health, concussions, the back problems I've had. It took its toll." http://football.abou...ly/aa041001.htm The highest-rated passer in league history, Young led San Francisco to its fifth Super Bowl title following the 1994 season. He has not played since he sustained his eighth concussion last September, and fourth in three years. http://www.nytimes.c...ref=steve_young There are other QB's and other NFL players that have retired early because of concussions, linebackers, linemen, safeties, running backs and if you have ever seen some of the older NFL players who's lives have been ruined because of the severe head trauma received due to concussions, its tragically sad because most could have been avoided simply by sitting out a few weeks after suffering one. The problem is ...once a player has suffered a concussion they are more susceptible to suffering another, and the more they endure there more chance of significant long term mental impairment. Lastly, I don't question Trent Edwards mental and physical ability to get the job done, I question the crap players on the offensive line to protect the one guy good enough to lead the team to a winning season.
  9. Normally you and I agree on many things, the current QB situation is not one of them. You clearly are basing your opinion past years performances without taking into account how much influence Chan Gailey will have on his new offense vs Idiots like Dick Jauron and Turk Schonert. I liked AVP but he wasn't ready to bear the full load of QB coach- OC game planning and play calling. At first I wasn't sold on Gailey as being 'the guy" needed to turn this team around, now after the "you dog one of us, you dog all of us" incident and the offensive performance of the last 3 preseason games I'm starting to buy into his approach, I like the guy and want him to succeed. I'm not the huge TE fan like dog is, although I do acknowledge that TE is very capable of running Gaileys offense as his college background was a "WCO" system and Gaileys is very similar in terms of getting the ball out very quickly. Edwards is smart, has a very quick release and is very accurate, very very important qualities to have in this new offense. If he has a fault its that he is susceptible to injury, and in Jauron's offense he was constantly getting hammered in that moronic Mike Martz passing scheme. You need to take into consideration how much has changed on the offense, "play calling"- "Scheme"- "Coaching", and although I'm still not very happy about the Bills O line- WR-TE situation... after watching Edwards play in the last 3 preseason games I'm open to the idea that Gailey can get by with what he has to work with. The NFL football analysts are all basing their opinions of the Bills QB's based on last seasons performance... no reason for us Bills fans do that when we have already seen improvement, Edwards with a 102.7 - Fitz 110.4 QB rating shows me they have improved. Now lets see that same performance in the regular season and I'm certain that many opinions here and around the NFL will change.
  10. The OP is entitled to his opinion now matter how lame it is... QB's Edwards can get the job done and has show that in many games in the past under Jauron, when he wasn't running for his life or getting concussed. The problem with the Bills QB's hasn't been their own doing, it was playing for a moron who didn't know a lick about the offense in DJ, and the inexperienced OC's he hired, both Schonert and AVP were rookies at their jobs. The entire offense has already shown vast improvements in play calling, game planning and scheme. Chan Gailey has already show in this last game that the QB can get the ball to the receiver on a deep pass in 3 seconds, something that NEVER happened under Jauron and his staff of clowns who used to call 5-7 step drops that would get the QB killed. RB's The Bills don't have AP or Chris Johnson, very true... but then the Titans and Vikings don't have THREE really good backs either. The days of only one good back have faded and most teams now have two or more, the Bills have two pro bowlers plus a rookie RB who many are saying is the best player in this years draft. The Bills could have the premier RB corps in the NFL. WR's Granted the Bills receiver corps is somewhat lacking for a dominate blocking & a pass catching tight end and 2nd receiver opposite Lee Evans. Roscoe Parrish has shown marked improvement in Gaileys offense for the slot. I wouldn't give them a D just yet, not with a play maker like Evans on the field O line The OP gave the Bills O line a C, which IMO is greatly over rating this starting unit. If not for the two decent guards this would undoubtedly be the worst O line in the NFL, and perhaps still might be. Chan Gailey has already shown that he can set up an offense that has the QB releasing the ball in 3 seconds or under, thus hiding the fact that both tackles are lacking. This team will still have trouble stopping Kris Jenkins- Vince Wolfolk up the middle with the current center, not going to be able to hide that position. Imagine if this team had two really good experienced tackles and a center... the offense would be unstoppable. Grading the team before they have even played a full seasonal game is kind of foolish and I acknowledge that fact, I'm just going by what I noticed from the players in the preseason games. The Bills could bolster some areas from the waiver wire, like TE-OT-WR . I wouldn't be upset if the Bills brought in TJ whosyourmomma, even tho he is a slot WR. Let Roscoe and Evans run deep go routes and get TJ the ball underneath. That may help hide the fact the Bills don't have a great tight end
  11. That's putting it mildly, honestly don't get why someone would even think about cutting Lynch. Dunno what game the OP was watching but from what I saw the guy did break lots of tackles and make some yards on his own, the thing is he can't run through holes that aren't there. He brings something different that Jackson and Spiller don't have, he is big, tough and physical runner.
  12. dog, you should be doing figgin backflips over that deep passing play... you do realize it only took about 2 1/2 - 3 seconds for that play to develop, Evans to run 40 a yard go route down the sideline, 2nd and 10 from the Bills 6 yd line to catch the ball at the Bills 45 and end up at the 44 yd line of the Lions, great play, ballsy call, amazing catch. That is exactly the kind of play that will open up the passing and running game, they can't stack the box if there is a chance they will give up a big play like that. Now imagine CJ in the backfield and the defense worrying who is getting the ball, Spiller or Evans If the Bills can throw deep off 3 second passing plays... it just might not matter how great the tackles play.
  13. Brohm is either going to be the 3rd string QB or get cut, kinda like I expected. I'm not certain as to what Gailey is thinking about him ATM so only Chan knows what he will do. I suppose it will also depend on how much money the Bills are paying him vs Edwards and Fitz If I'm Brohm I'm hatin that tight end who flubbed a few passes and juggled the ball into the hands of the defender for the INT. That INT that Brown threw looked like he was throwing to a spot in the end zone where the receiver was supposed to be...only problem is it didn't look like any Bill player was even anywhere near that area.
  14. Well on different occasions Jaime Dukes has stated the Bills got the best player in this years draft, and likened CJ Spiller to Tony Dorsett. While Marshall Faulk has stated that Spiller is a very special back. It seems as though all the comentators on NFL network have been praising Spiller. Although one player isn't going to elevate the entire team... it takes a TEAM effort to win along with good coaching, play calling and schemes. So far the Bills have started down a new road with better coaching and schemes, now if the players buy into what Gailey is preaching and play every play like its the last play of the game... I know I was very skeptical about Gailey being ":the guy" , but now after what he did and said in support of Trent Edwards against the hecklers at the Bills camp, stating that if you dog one of us you dog all of us... I'm really pulling for him to succeed and take this team to a winning record this year. So I've bought into his approach, his talk and his walk, I still feel bad for the guy because I know that O line is going to end up screwing the entire offense and team again this year, silk purse-sows ear type of thing. The center and tackles still stink and will hold, trip and tackle every play, I just hope they are good enough to get away with it.
  15. The Bills starters have yet to play a full game so most of us really have no idea of exactly how good or bad this years team will be... This coaching staff is filled with college coaches who have no NFL experience, plus the OC and DC were elevated to those jobs from RB coach in Arizona and LB coach in Miami. The team is implementing a new 3-4 defense and will have trouble stopping opposing teams until they learn their jobs, both coaches and players. The offense will be better and score more points and have better stats, but I still have no faith in the current O line to protect Edwards for 60 min a game for 16 weeks
  16. The reason for all the ESPN speculation is the current Bills OC was the RB's coach in Arizona and thinks Leinart is an upgrade... http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5518740 OK, Chan needs to give his OC a swift kick and tell him to shut his mouth. The old adage ""it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool then to open ones mouth and remove all doubt"" applies here. Curtis Modkins is a moron if he thinks Leinart is worth the money the Bills would need to pay him, jeez I hope Chan never relinquishes the play calling to that guy.
  17. The past two games the Bills have been throwing outs, slants and screens along with good running from CJ Spiller and the offense has been playing well. The offense has been utilizing 3 step drops and quick passes and has done well against Cincy and Indy for the most part. I've seen some plays that could have easily been called for holding by the Bills O line, I saw one Bill basically openly tackle / trip and not have it called. Dunno why they weren't called and don't really care, I just wonder if they will be called during the real games and if so it could really hamper things. I didn't state that the center sucked.... I stated the team needs an upgrade at center, and they still do! Hangartner played with a bad back most of last season and now will be facing a healthy Kris Jenkins, Vince Wolfolk. Everyone seems sold on Green and Bell as the starters at tackle... you guys will see if they are worth anything when it comes down to a 3rd and long in the 4th QTR when the game is on the line. Bell may eventually pan out as a decent left tackle, I just don't see it. Green should have never been signed and is a 1 yr stop gap So yea, In my view the team still needs a dominate blocking tight end, 2 tackles and a center unless they move Wood to center.
  18. If you look at most of the completed passes they are out of the QB's hand within 3 seconds, which is dramatically different from last years AVP offense and Turks the year before. All the QB's seem to be snapping the ball out faster. Gailey has found a way to get Roscoe the ball, something Bills fans have been dreaming about since he was drafted, he has also found a way to get the other receivers open. So far the quick passes have worked very well along with the running game, Spiller has proven to be a big play threat, and if the offense can keep this up they should win some games. Gotta love the "wildcat" play ... However it remains to be seen if this offense can make a 3rd and long against a team with a decent pass rush when the game is on the line in the 4th QTR.
  19. I looked up your given birth date for your profile as June 13th 1946, hey I was curious! Then went to PRO-FOOTBALL-reference.com, here : http://www.pro-footb...1967_roster.htm I didn't find anyone that played for the Bills that year with the same birth date...
  20. It is great to see ex NFL players come to this board and post their thoughts, I'm glad that you remained anonymous because like with what happened with Tim Graham, someone would find a way to get you mad at everyone and simply quit forever. I know this forum is visited by NFL fans other then Buffalo Bill fans, and they manage to stir things up pretty bad from time to time. You should take great pride in the fact that you played in the NFL as so few get to do so, the average life span of an NFL player is 3 short years... so you managed to become an above average player. Somehow I think we will see you again on this board... as it is so difficult to not want to express your opinion about a team you obviously care a great deal about.
  21. So far Trent Edwards has shown me this preseason what I already knew...that given a decent game plan and scheme along with adequate protection and playcalling he can get the job done. I've gotten flamed and roasted for stating that in eariler posts, this time I might be spared the barbs from the Trent haters because he has played well, much to their chagrin. Should the Bills go 1-15 and then draft a QB that will take 4 years to develop... then find out they drafted another Matt Leinart. The Bills will be bad this year record wise... but it will be because they still have 2 crap O tackles, need an upgrade at tight end and center and have a bad defense that is still learning to run the 3-4. The Bills offense will be better stat wise because of a loaded backfield and better scheme, play calling and overall offense
  22. Playing well in a preseason game after the opposing team pulls some of their starters doesn't mean much... plus the fact that the Bills could have been flagged on almost every good offensive play for holding. We can really get an understanding of what this team can really do once we see them play a full game, its my thought that this team will fail badly in the fourth QTR. Its not so much Edwards as it is the offensive line and protections that have failed the last 3 years
  23. can we trade you instead... In today's NFL most every team is running a two back offense to ease the burden of so many carries in a season, as it burns them out quickly Marshawn is the Mack truck, Jackson is the Jaguar, Spiller is the Ferrari If the Bills want to be a dominate running team this season they will keep all those three, and might even keep Bell as well
  24. from the Bleacher report:, players they think are on the bubble 1.Keith Ellison 2.Chad Simpson 3.Derek Schouman 4. James Hardy 5.John McCargo 6.Reggie Corner 7.Naaman Roosevelt 8.Cary Harris 9.Ryan Fitzpatrick 10.Brian Brohm http://bleacherrepor...-bubble#page/11
  25. Spiller looks great now, but I doubt he will help this O line much in the 4th QTR when Green, Bell are gassed and the game is on the line. I still say the lack of talent and experience on this O line is gonna kill them in the 4th QTR.
