  1. Fred Smerlas, Shane Nelson and Jim Haslett..the Bermuda Triangle!!! Yes to all
  2. Heck yeah! Tell your brownie fan friend that Steve Tasker was no kick returner, this little guy made the pro bowl as a GUNNER!!!! As a Bills fan and season ticket holder from 1988 to 1995 I attended every home game, playoff game and super bowl .Of course I want to see all the Bills mentioned make it into the hall someday. The one player that stands out the most to me will probably never make it into canton, bcause the news writers who do all the voting have no clue as to what a hall of famer should be! Seven time pro bowl and pro bowl MVP Steve Tasker. Never before in the history of the game has one player stood out and defined a position as a special teamer. No other special team player has been selected as the pro bowl MVP! No other special team player has ever been to the pro bowl 7 times. Just like Bruce Smith gave opposing OC's nightmares. Steve Tasker gave opposing special team coaches nightmares like no other player ever has, or ever will. He didn't make it by returning kicks for TD's either. He made it to 7 pro bowls as the fiercest hitter / gunner in the NFL, He did this all at 5’ 8” & 183 lbs. In the movie "Invincible" Vince Papale (who played only 3 seasons as a special teamer) his claim to fame came on the fact that he was a "walk-on' after the Eagles held open tryouts, although a great story that someone made a pro football team as a walk-on at age 30.He lasted the NFL average, 3 years. Anyone who has ever watched the movie "Rudy" can get a moderate understanding of what this undersized hero did for so many seasons. With the avg lifespan of three years in the NFL... this player spent 12 years as a special team’s ace and wide receiver. He not only made the team,he redefined an NFL position! What is really amazing is that he never really was able to show his ability as a wide out because he was so valuable on S.T. When he finally was used as a wide-out he played very similar to the way Wes Welker plays now. He is not one in a million, He is the one and only
  3. Simply because someone in this forum keeps saying Marshawn is only avg, that doesn't make it a fact. In Sundays game against the Dolphins, the first series the bills had the ball to the five yard line first and goal. First run-Fred Jackson up the middle to the four yard line. second run-Fred Jackson up the middle to the one yard line. Third run-Fred Jackson left side, no gain Bills settle for a field goal. No opening to run through, plain and simple... Marshawn was on the bench and the trainers were looking at him for this series otherwise he would have been in there. Would Marshawn have been able to push his way into the end zone? Doubtful the way the Bills line collapsed.Games are won and lost at the line of scrimmage. If Fred Jackson was the better back he would be starting,PERIOD! I don't see Dick Juron playing any player simply because they were a higher draft choice. If that were the case Jason Peters would have never made the team because he would never get a chance to play in front of the high priced FA's and draft picks. This is exactly why JP is sitting and Trent Edwards is playing. The bills seem to find themselves in 3rd and long a ton in every game mostly because they can't get decent yardage on first and second down running. Trent has to make the first down by passing. Most teams think that if they can stop the run and force you into passing situations the percentages are then in their favor, and they are right. That is the plan that most teams go into a game with. Anyway my take is the Bills have two excellent backs in Lynch and Jackson, they just need some holes to run through.
  4. I would partially agree with zak,Its the O-line not holding the blocks long enough. From what i see Marshawn is a friggin beast and freddy is a mini beast, both are doing an excellent job. The fans sit back and think that because the Bills paid X amount of $ for a FA O lineman that the player should be great, not always the case. The fans hear that the Bills line is one of the biggest in the NFL,bigger is not always better! When the Bills field a fully healthy line they do a fairly decent job, better pass blocking then run blocking this year it would appear. Then again Trent Edwards has been getting the ball out pretty quickly. The things i notice are that the Bills don't seem to run many "miss direction" plays, they pretty much run their basic packages over and over and stick with that. i suppose that they need to because of the changes due to injuries. I'm not a real big fan of the "zone" blocking scheme. I used to love watching the 90's Bills run the old redskins "counter trey". The Redskins are currently using a new form of that, where the entire line starts moving one way and then shifts the other way. Clinton Portis can then cut back or take the hole, its working very very well for them.He is also the leading rusher in the NFL. Think i remember the Bills sending Lee Evens on an end around that got some decent yardage in one game, they didn't run it again and then haven't seen it since, dunno why.
  5. Take a long hard look at Eli manning and the amount of time it took for him to develop properly. JP was drafted the same year as Eli but hasn't played nearly as much. The Giants gave Eli a ton of time to develop.Even when he threw 3 interceptions in a game they never thought of pulling him. The Giants have one of the best if not the best O-lines in pro football and they have a great running game.Eli still stunk it up a lot last year. He didn't start clicking until the playoffs. So basically 3 +years to develop on a playoff caliber team. (The NY Giants made the playoffs his first year starting )The one knock on Eli during his first full season was his efficiency. Even though the Giants finished at the top of the NFC East, Manning himself struggled during his first full year as starting quarterback. Eli completed just 52.8% of his passes with a modest 6.8 yards per attempt, producing an unimpressive quarterback efficiency rating of 75.9 (23rd in the league), leading many sports commentators to question his abilities. Manning visibly wore down late in the season. His play fell off, culminating in a poor performance in the playoffs against Carolina. Now consider the changes that JP has gone through. Different head coaches, different OC's,different schemes, way less playing time. The thing with this Bills coaching staff is they are relying on a very young QB to win games for them, plain and simple it shouldn't be on the QB's shoulders,Not with the amount of money spent on the O-line and two excellent running backs the Bills have in Lynch and Jackson. To quote Marv,it usually takes 3-5 years for a new QB to learn to read defenses properly.JP has an above avg arm and mobility,he has all the physical tools and more to be an elite QB. His problems are all mental, reading defenses and finding the open receiver. But then that's the problem with 90% of the QB's that don't make it in the NFL.(like Joey Harrington:et al)The thing is JP still has time to develop properly.putting him in the proper system like Chicago or Baltimore,NY Giants, even Tennessee that will run to set up the pass he could be a very good QB,just like Eli Manning. Arron Rodgers sat behind Bett Farve for four years, they brought him along slowly. Which is what should happen with most new QB's. Problem is most teams can't wait that long and throw their new QB into the fire and expect him to win. Look at the Arizona game,go ahead blame JP for the loss. But If the Bills were able to run block properly they would have won that game. That said,Trent Edwards is a supremely talented and gifted QB. I only hope and prey he will last the season on a team that makes him win games for them .
  6. Hey now,be nice to the "special" phins fan. The Dolphins have indeed improved dramatically this season,in fact they already doubled their total wins from last season.
  7. All this talk of great QB's reminds me, gotta go vote for Trent and some Bills for the Pro Bowl
  8. When Troy Aikman and John Elway were drafted # one overall in their prospective draft's they were both touted as not only being the best player in that years draft but the best QB talent to enter the NFL in years. Also, both had rockets for arms. Elway would throw so hard that his receivers would have little X's all over their chest's after practice. Like Montana who was also a 3rd round pick Trent Edwards fell under the radar of most scouts and teams. Another comparison is their arms.neither was said to have a cannon but they could get the ball deep when needed.
  9. And you missed my point,Although the Pats with Brady have beaten the Bills pretty badly this decade you cannot compare it to 10 full years of domination at the hands of Don Shula! Most of those 100+ wins came at the Bills expense! Moving the Bills away from the Dolphins,Jets, patriots would be a huge mistake. Mr.Ralph Wilson fought hard to keep the bills in the East and I for one am darn happy he did! I savor every win against our division foes. Even if we have a losing season it makes my year if we beat the Dolphins 2x!!
  10. I'd have to agree with the Montana choice. Very decisive, quick release, very accurate! What will make Tent even better is if the bills O-line can open some bigger holes for #'s 23 & 22. A stronger running game would also allow Trent to not need to win games in the 4th qtr. Playing keep away with the ground game has always been my favorite part of an offense. The Bills did an awesome job against the chargers when they needed to in the 4th qtr. It made me smile ear to ear to watch Philip Rivers and the highest scoring offense stand on the sidelines looking helpless as the bills ran out the clock.
  11. I still hate the phins...even if they have been stinky for a few years now! All you youngsters gotta look back at time when the Don ruled the division! The Bills never won a game during the 1970's against Shula. Finally in 1980 the bills beat the phins after 10 years of losing !!! Chuck Knox coached that team, also the fans tore the goal posts down to celebrate that victory! Moving the Bills away from the Dolphins,Jets, patriots would be a huge mistake. Mr.Ralph Wilson fought hard to keep the bills in the East and I for one am darn happy he did! I savor every win against our division foes. Even if we have a losing season it makes my year if we beat the Dolphins 2xhttp://www.stadiumwall.com/style_emoticons/default/worthy.gif
  12. Vd is available in my fantasy league but I won't pick him up and here is why. Tue, Oct 7 The Associated Press reports San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Nolan defended the use of TE Vernon Davis as a blocker, even though Davis has just five receptions in five games this season. "He has a responsibility to himself to run the correct routes," Nolan said. "You get the ball that way better, but by no stretch would I say he's a bust. Like I said, he is good at two out of the three (aspects of his job). He will continue to get better at the third part, but that's a matter of working at it." (KFFL) Tue, Oct 7 TE Vernon Davis has caught just two passes the past four games. He is seen as a better blocker than a pass catcher, despite being the No. 6 overall pick in the 2006 draft. Davis has experienced difficulty fitting into Mike Martz's offense. He has just five catches for 87 yards through five games. Davis has been spending time after practices working with quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan on down-the-field pass routes. Davis is not known as an accomplished route-runner. (Yahoo! Sports) He is a beast physically and can run like a jet...in a straight line. But if he can't learn to run his routes properly.... he was a "project" draft pick.kinda like Ted Ginn Jr.
