I would have been happier with Robinson, Spence or Ragland at end of 1st and have an extra 2nd

Another option would have been to roll dice on Jack at end of 1st, high risk/high reward with an eye on longer term if he needs micro-fracture

Somebody has to offer a late first and another 2nd for that to be true...

Every singe year people throw out these critiques like they were available options we passed up. Someone has to pay on the other side, Bills don't just get to say we are gonna take this and this from you and give you this and then make it so. Another team has to dance with us and be willing to pay the price. Its already been stated that the offers available were not good enough for them to pass on a guy they had ranked very high on their draft board. And the team linked to offering a trade up didn't have the assets you are asking for (Dallas already used their 1st round pick at #4 so we wouldn't have a late round 1st in the only rumored trade down offer we had).

So you can say you would have been happier in some "what if" scenario that didn't exist, but it has no relevancy of what actually was an available choice to the Bills.

Now to the original question he asked you: Who else would you have taken instead of Shaq at 19? Because your trade scenario isn't a valid answer because it was not a legit option as it involved a trade partner that didn't exist offering your proposed scenario...a late round first and an additional second.

  2. I was with Johnny Manziel last night at the Roxy on the Sunset Strip. My friends album release party was there, "Strangers You Know" and he showed up. Reminded me why I hate going out in Hollywood anymore...he had an entrourage of duechey nobodies with him which made it hard to do anything. The club treated him like he was Jay Z, so slowed everything down where ever he went...from getting drinks, heading upstairs to VIP...everything was longer because of this fool. Even was a pain to get out of parking as he had vehicles in the way. Paparazzi was there and TMZ ran a story on it.

On a side note, check out Strangers You Know...about to play all the big festivals this year...Coachella, SXSW, etc.

Here is my buddy Tommy's sports blog covering it too as he was there last night as well.

  3. The way that it looks Ryan Fitzpatrick could be heading to Denver in 2016. Denver won the title with Peyton Manning who played way worse than Fitzpatrick in 2015.

As long as he doesnt have to play the Bills, if Denver signs him, he does have a great chance to win a ring.

For me it would be bitter sweet becuase I like fitzpatrick alot but to think a superbowl winning quarterback was on out roster and we didnt have the defense at that time to get the job done would suck.

Now you could say the same if Tyrod played for Denver in 2016 he could win a ring and he is on our roster at this time I should just chill, but it all would be interesting to say the least.

What is everyones obsession with Ryan FitzCraptrick still? I mean seriously...who cares at this point. If he wins the Super Bowl this year in Denver (assuming he signed there) it literally means nothing in terms of Buffalo. Denver just won the Super Bowl with a QB who was the lowest rated QB in regular season history to be on a winning SB team, the single worst performance by any SB winning QB in history. Trent Dilfer has a ring even. So if Fitz went there and won, then good for him...but lets not ask this question as if that would somehow make him a SB quality QB that could have been something different for us.

Fitz had a great D last year, talented Offensive weapons, and guess what...he couldn't beat the Bills and the 2nd loss kept them out of the playoffs despite him having his best career year on the most talented team he's ever led. And HE was the biggest reason they folded as he choked away another game where there was high stakes.

Fitz is not a good QB, he's a great backup, marginal starter. He will do just enough to keep it interesting and blow it just enough to keep the team from success. But if Peytons atrocious season and SB game can still result in a SB win, all it proves is that ANY QB can win a SB on the right team. Trent Dilfer was always Trent Dilfer before and after he wont the SB...doesnt mean he was someone who could have led another team to the promise land. He was in the right place at the right time...just like Fitz would be if he went to Denver and they won.

All that said, I liked Fitz as a person and team member, and would be happy for him if went there and won, even though I was not a fan of him being our starting QB so long.

  4. I have posted this before on here and some people mocked it, but I will post this again. I have friends who work in the NFL in broadcast...from NFL Network, to ESPN, to local coverage media, etc. And I have heard from many of them that its a wide spread known fact behind the scenes that Manning has a sex addiction life that rivals what Tiger Woods was. Its also widely believed that his wife is aware and has her own fun on the side in their open marriage. He has an apartment in Indianapolis he keeps for his regular call girls to stay. Its known amongst the inner circle of journalism, but its never reported on. Just like Woods had a lifestyle that was known internally, but it wasnt until the incident with his wife that brought it out officially in the media.

I noticed many in this thread are playing the race card and stuff and debating race. I can tell you that the media kept quiet about Tiger Woods too until something brought the story out. People knew, but his Icon status and lack of direct, hard evidence kept them from really going after the story. No one wanted to be responsible for going after Tigers reputation and not being able to unquestionably substantiate it, he was way too important and beloved. So it was ignored for the most part.

The same thing is true for Peyton. Its something thats been known on the inner circles, but the respect for him, his iconic status and lack of anything to truly substantiate what was known kept people at bay. So while I get why people have been talking race because how Peyton and Cam are both being treated differently, this side of Mannings life had less to do with the fact that he is white, and more to do with the fact that he's an Icon with a squeaky clean image that everyone in the industry loves, especially in media. They did the same thing for Tiger Woods who is Black, so its not a race thing. They protected Michael Jordan quite a bit too when he had a terrible gambling issue (some say that led to the death of his father) would punch teammates, belittle teammates...but his Iconic status rose to such prominence that no one wanted to focus on any of that. Most were small stories at best.

And the final thing is that the sexual assault case in college was BEFORE social media existed for the most part. If that case happened in the modern day era, there would be no escaping it.

And finally...even though I stated that I don't see the Manning thing as it being racial...there is a HUGE racial biased in media. And Cam is a good example, but the best example from the SB had nothing to do with the players. Beyonce caught fire for the Black Panther tribute outfits...yet NONE of the Country Music people, Kid Rock, Rock bands, etc that fly the confederate flag in their concerts, albums, media, etc get ANY flack for it. Black Panthers didn't stand for racism either, they were fighting for the rights of their oppressed people. The confederate flag is NOT even the confederate flag...it was a battle flag. It became known as the confederate flag when they formed the political group the Dixiecrat Party in 1948 and it was there symbol and flag. The Dixiecrat party was formed to fight to have segregation and to keep lynching legal...and its a flag often flown by the KKK. But somehow, white bands in rock and country flying this flag, wearing it as clothes, etc doesn't get reported on as a racial issue, but Beyonce having the Black Panthers who fought for their rights somehow does?

  5. What positions do you see us drafting with our 1st 3 picks?

No offense, but this is a pretty bad list given that you don't have any option where we go OL in the first, and only have a single choice that even has OL being drafted. I think there is almost zero chance the Bills don't take at least one person on the OL in the first 3 rounds.

I would say OL, S, LB as my guess. All 3 are needs, and so is a difference making WR opposite Sammy with size. I wouldn't be surprised to see us take a WR as early as round 1 if there is one they love there, but OL and S I think are the two biggest needs on this team right now BEFORE free agency begins. None of this matters until we see what we gain and lose in FA going into the draft.

  6. I thought this thread was on different fans?? I worked in MA. for 44 years after moving from Buffalo. The NE fans are very hard to swollow. They beat me up and laughed at you all the time. NYY vs Sox. Bill's vs NE. They really believe they walk on water. They are truly nasty people. I really don't like them and I am a really nice person. And that is how it will always be. And should be. I am a real fan.

I live in Los Angeles, and I can't stand Raider fans. They are awful and know nothing about their team...they live for the image of being an a-hole.

  7.

I don't put the record solely on TT. I do, however, put the inability to score points (6 of them) when the Bills needed them squarely on TT.

I know the defense didn't do the offense many favors this year.

But I don't want to hear the "our receivers were injured," excuse. That happens to a lot of teams ... winning teams ... and always has.

I don't think it's absurd to think that we have seen TT's ceiling. I sincerely believe that. His effectiveness decreased as the season moved on. He became easier to defend. He will be easier to defend next season unless he somehow figures out how to read defenses and utilize more than the sidelines. He's not built to just scramble for positive yardage and take hits.

I will say what I always say when this topic comes up. I would love to be wrong. I'm not some troll who wants TT to suck just so I can say I'm right. That's not my style. I would gladly eat crow if he is able to turn it around and be the QB worthy of leading an NFL offense.

Everyone is entitled to their thoughts and opinions about anyone and everything. But lets bring this back to the point I initially made and make it more about that than the analysis of TT specifically.

In this case, you have decided to see the negative in TT and ignore any of the positives he showed. You have decided that all injury situations are equal and remove that FACT about his season as if it didn't matter to further your belief in his lack of potential. GB lost Jordy this year, and with an ELITE top 3 QB, and many would argue the best current QB in the NFL in Rodgers and what was believed to be a great stable of WR's behind Jordy, they still struggled a lot on offense. They went from being a real threat for the SB to a team that was gonna make the playoffs still but not be a real threat to make and win the SB. One player changed the effectiveness of the one of the best QB's and offenses in the NFL (who again had an ELITE veteran QB in the same system for years).

Now look at TT...new system, lost ALL of his starting WRs for portions of the year, including some for the season, did not get a full offseason of reps with them, first time starter, lost ALL of his top 3 RBs for parts of the year and one for the season, lost his talented TE as well and many players on the OL. All the while playing through his own injuries that even caused him to miss 2 games.

So to lump our injury situation into the conversation as if its equal to everyone and as if it didn't impact others the way it impacted us is ridiculous. And its being done so in a way to again further a campaign against a promising young player who has yet to play long enough to decide his future. Ask Dallas what its like to lose a QB and #1 WR...how about Baltimore? What about the Saints? Most teams who lose their starting QB, RB, WR, TE, OG, OT, and many of their backups for large portions of the year don't win a lot of games despite you stating the opposite. The facts are the facts, but many Bills fans want to ignore the logic and reason of the actual scenario of what a specific player went through and just decide its his fault and he has no future.

If TT had this season for the Pats, they would be supporting his development to see if he can get better, not railroading against him to prove he can't get better. And if you honestly feel he has peaked, then fine, thats your opinion. But I am simply pointing out the difference between supporting players development and wallowing in unproven negativity. Its fine to be critical of the flaws in a player and what they need to improve upon, its a whole other animal to decide that they can never improve and that they have no future as a starter in this league like you have decided with Taylor despite a pretty good first season from him overall.

And there is no need to respond back about debating TT, I am clear on your thoughts on him...he was an example not a thread for proving or disproving his merits.

  8.

The closest he came to single-handedly winning a game was the Tennessee game in which his ridiculously schitty play for the first 54 minutes of the game had us behind.

I respect you and your contributions, but this entire rant tells me that you think unless someone is a homer, then they're not a "good fan." I think that's bullschit, personally.

You're happy with a QB who "led" the team to a .500 record. I want one that can put up good numbers when the Bills NEED them and actually lead the team to enough wins to play week 18. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Being a pro bowl alternate in this day and age is a joke. The pro bowl is a joke and you have to know that. Being named to it doesn't make you great and being named as an alternate barely makes you good.

What's tough for me is to see the members of the Church of Tyrod ignore the fact that he's really not that friggin' good.

Your follow up is my exact point. I literally said he has to improve, and I literally said rather than look at the potential you have decided he has none. No one ever around here will label me a homer, I was very critical of many players who were not getting the job done in the past.

But here you go...you immediately start tearing TT down and deciding he sucks despite the FO, ESPN (named him biggest surprise of the year the other day...in a good way), his teammates, etc all saying he exceeded expectations and is promising young player. NO ONE, literally NOT ONE is coming out and saying he's the next Cam Newton or Russell Wilson. Its that this kid faced a LOT of tough challenges this year and despite that had a pretty good year for a FIRST year starter, one of the BEST ON RECORD for a first year QB in many critical categories and statisitcs, did make a ProBowl (say what you want about the ProBowl, but he was still good enough to be chosen as an alternate despite you saying he sucks), and has shown enough to be embraced as the starter next year to see IF he continues to develop.

I respect your opinion, but to sit back and say after what he did this year that he has no future as a potential starter is so absurd that I can even fathom how anyone could say that. Does he have more to prove...ABSOLUTELY, he needs to continue to get better which is EXACTLY what EVERY SINGLE first year QB faced as well whether they were a rookie or sat before they started. Aaron Rodgers had a pretty good start when he got his chance, but he got so much better. You on the other hand have decided despite a sold start by TT that he can't get better, and thats absurd.

And for the love of all things holy...stop putting the 8-8 record on just his shoulders. Our offense IS NOT THE REASON we only won 8 games this year. TT and the offense, often missing our best players on Offense scored more than enough points to win several other games where the D came up short. And even so, its a TEAM game, and TT did not lead us to an 8-8 record in the first place, so get your facts straight. He led us to an 8-6 record as EJ got us two losses. And we were missing Sammy, Shady, Clay, Karlos, and a whole mess of other players in many of those games.

  9. It seems a lot of Bills fans are out to nail their own players as soon as they hear a Bills player has gotten in trouble with the law compared to the Patriots fans who believe every lie their organization sells them. I'm not saying that Bills fans need to be mindless sheep like the Mazzholes up north, but it's absolutely ridiculous to bash a player as soon we hear they've gotten in trouble and try to run them out of town.

I have some close friends who are huge Pats fans, several actually, including one who's one of the top editors at the NFL Network. Being around them and their friends, I can say one thing is VERY different between Pats fans and Bills fans. They ALWAYS support their players and the team overall. Bills fans spend more time trying to prove they still suck, prove certain UNPROVEN players suck and will always suck, find reasons why great players suck or should be gone, etc. I get winning and losing plays a part in that, but I have known some of these people from before the Pats were anything special. And it was always the same.

I used to be a VERY active member of this board, but its taxing and tiring to be on here listening to the same people railroad conversations, cram their "he sucks" campaign down everyones throat, we wont win 4 games next year speeches, etc. The fans here watch the games, go through the motions of being a fan, but will in an instant turn on a player if they don't like his draft slot...if they think we didn't need that player...if he shows Bills pride on Twitter...if he demands the ball...if we gave up something for him that the arm chair GM's thinks we shouldn't...any number of reasons. People are more concerned about proving the misery than rallying to support the team and players. And I am not saying that you can't be truthful and critical of players performances, or even the staff and FO. But it goes to extremes here and often beyond reason.

I mean it gets SOOOOOOO old to the point that its almost impossible to have rational discussions about this team anymore. And I don't want to hear this garbage about ownership, we have NEW ownership. I don't want to hear about the staff as IF its been the same staff all these years, its a NEW staff. Everyone here lumps the entire playoff drought onto each and every new Coach, new FO person, new draft pick, new FA signing, etc. They put a decade and a half of losing on EVERYONES shoulders that had nothing to do with the last decade and a half. They then scream at the top of their lungs that its their right to b*tch and moan about it because they suffered through it despite that it defies ALL LOGIC given the current team has nothing to do with he last decade and a half.

I mean look at TT...a guy who made the ProBowl as his first time starting. Instead of being excited about his potential, we still have people campaigning against him, demanding we waste a first round pick (thats not even a high pick) on a QB to replace or challenge him. Does he still have to improve, sure, but IT WAS HIS FIRST YEAR STARTING AT THE MOST DIFFICULT POSITION IN ALL OF TEAM SPORTS AND HE DID IT BETTER THAN MOST IN THEIR FIRST TRY. They ignore how tough he is playing through pain all year, or that he missed time, or that he didn't get first team reps like a starter would most of the offseason, or that ALL OF HIS PLAYMAKERS went down with injury for multiple games this year, and some for the season...and when they did play, they often were playing hurt. Or that he and the whole team were in their first year with a completely new system. Or that he got screwed bad on some bad calls that cost us games like the Giants game. Or that he made plays with his legs, not just his arm. Or that he single handedly won us games with others didn't show up.

Instead of finding the positive to build on and showing support, people railroad him still to this very moment. That is the difference of being a Bills fan and a Pats fan. They come out to support their players of all skill levels while we spend time finding reasons to bash them or hate on them even when its not warranted.

Last couple of years, its been tough to be a Bills fan, not because of the product on the field as much as it is being around other Bills fans.

  10. I don't know the whole story here...but my initial thoughts are:

    1. Do we know who started the fight? If the cops started the fight, then I am not sure how Shady and Co. are facing this or that as wouldn't it be self defense? Self Defense doesn't require you to get your butt kicked, so just because they won the fight doesn't mean it wasnt self defense.

    2. Do we know yet if Shady was directly involved with any of the damage that created the injuries? If the majority of the fight was the others and Shady jumped in to help or played a minor role, then I don't know that he will be in as much trouble as speculated.

I have no idea if any of those 2 points above are known yet, haven't had time to catch up with the story. So just asking for my knowledge so I don't have to surf a 30+ page thread for time reasons.

Also, as some pointed out in the more recent posts, worst case scenario, our run game is in good shape with or without Shady next year for either part of the season or if the Bills felt they needed to cut him after all this plays out. Obviously, Shady would be great to have out there, but losing him doesn't make or break us as we have a pretty darn good stable of RB's even as we sit now before factoring in FA/Draft additions in the event we moved on from Shady.

  11. Based on his play and development from week 1 to week 17 this season Who really Billieves in Tyrod Taylor enough NOT to take a QB in the 1st round and go Defense instead? As the future or as an interim to the next "Kelly" type franchise guy?

Apparently Jay Skurski of the Buffalo news throws him a vote of confidence.

    http://bills.buffalonews.com/2016/02/02/power-take-taylors-play-means-bills-do-not-need-to-pick-up-qb-early/

Mark my words, there is ZERO chance the Bills go QB in Round 1, and probably less than a 10% chance they look at one in round 2 (only real chance would be someone they had real high on their board in terms of grade slipped to round 2 that should have been in round 1).

Why are people even speculating on this anymore? Every indication from anyone who matters in decision making inside the Bills on draft picks and QB's have all strongly supported TT. The kid is the man the next year, period. He still has plenty to prove before he gets the job for the next 5 to 10 years and a big contract, but they are going to give him every opportunity to do that. And the one thing this regime has proven is that they are not going to make draft picks that might interfere with someone's development they are committed to and instead go after putting the best team on that field to help them all achieve the goals we set forth.

For instance, they went after Sammy rather another QB because they were committed to developing EJ. I know people will now twist that to use against the decision to develop TT, but EJ also wasnt coming off a ProBowl on his first season playing in the NFL and getting there despite all the hurdles TT had to overcome like personal injuries and the loss of so many playmakers around him for so much of the season.

TT is our guy, there will be NO first round pick, and almost certain no 2nd round pick used on a QB. 3rd or later maybe as someone who can come in to develop and compete for the back up spot and possibly for the starting spot in the future if TT doesn't continue his progress (and he still needs to get better, but he had a pretty good first season as an NFL QB).

PS: The insane part is if TT was a literal rookie we just drafted last year, this board would think he was a god after his first season. But because it wasn't, they treat him differently even though it was essentially still his first season playing in the NFL as a starting QB playing meaningful minutes.

  12. Didn't you used to say this same song and dance about "knowing nothing about player evaluation," a few years ago about a certain RB? One would think humility would be learned.

There is an extreme difference FireChan. I have not decided Taylors fate. I have not claimed Taylor will be some long time great QB solution. I have stated he has shown the potential and earned the opportunity to be the guy. Where as other people have fully decided he's NOT the guy. So again, anyone making a FINAL decision on arc of this kids career now is foolish. I mean anyone can guess on any player and say he will be great or he will be a bust...you have a 50/50 shot of being right. Thats not evaluating talent, thats guessing at the future and 50% of the time they could be right no matter how dumb the reasoning for their guess in the first place. And to decide Taylor will not be the guy based on the body of evidence he put up is dumb. Its also dumb to say he's definitely our future. What is true...the kid EARNED his shot next year as the unquestioned starter and has a lot of potential for a bright future.

  13. Wonder when the last time a ProBowl QB was labeled not good enough that was also essentially a rookie, played hurt most that season, lost all his offensive weapons (every single one and many of their backups) for periods of the season, didn't get first team reps on the offseason like an anointed starter would, first year in a new system, first year the whole team was in a new system, lots of OL injuries, and when he did have his weapons, they were often playing hurt and at less than full speed?

Seriously, anyone questioning Taylors potential right now should probably not be allowed to evaluate QBs anymore. And sorry "Dude", but your statistical analysis is a complete joke. We were the top rushing team in the league, we had a young QB, we lost our best receiving weapons frequently, and everyone was learning a new offense...you KNOW this...yet you choose to use Yardage TOTALS to discredit the kid when that has nothing to do with his skill and potential given the offense that was ran and was the offense chosen MONTHS before Tyrod was ever close to being the starter. Not to mention, you carefully ignore his plays with his legs as a QB.

This is just like all the foolish garbage BS people were trying to say about Russell not being Elite...because of his yardage totals in a run heavy offense despite the fact his passing efficiency was outstanding. Im not saying TT is on Russels level yet, but what I am saying is that its absolutely stupid to point to passing yard totals as a barometer on a QBs ability when the QB in question is also a dual threat and not count his rushing yards and also not take into effect the run first offense of a top rushing team in the NFL.

  14.

Unfortunately, they don't give you credit for "overall points" in the NFL--only overall points per game.

If you fail 50% (or more) of the time at a 2 pointer while your opponent is getting a PAT 95% of the time, you will not win trading touchdowns.

Its math though...if you average 4 TDs a game and average 85% conversion rate (someone said we missed 15% of our XP attempts above, I have no idea if thats accurate or not, but using it since someone said it) then you will average 6.85 points per TD or 27.4 points per 4 TDs.

50% conversion rate on 2 pt conversion means you will average 7 points per TD, or 28 points per those 4 TDs. So mathmatically, you would average more points per game going for 2 assuming you had a less than 100% XP conversion rate and a near, at or above 50% 2pt conversion rate.

In the example I used of 85% xp and 48% 2 pt conversion rates, the math still works in favor of averaging more points per TD and more points per game going for 2. Im only using averages people posted in the thread, so I didnt confirm those are accurate.

And you are mathematically incorrect in your last statement. You said if you fail 50% of the time on a 2 point conversion, which is an average of 7 points per TD in that scenario. Then you said your opponents averages 95% XP accuracy, which equates to an average of 6.95 points per touchdown. So mathematically they can't beat us, not the other way around. Of course not all situations are as black and white as math makes it, but statistical averages indicate going for 2 is better overall in the scenario you said we would not win with.

  15. I would think so. I'm not sure, but I think the stats also show that running plays are far more successful than passes when going for 2, which should help a team like Buffalo.

Theoretically, if you can average 50% on 2 point conversions then you will score more points overall because you wont likely average 100% on XP with the new XP rules. So, if a team like Buffalo can average 48% or higher after seeing 15% miss on single XP tries, then its a no brainer mathematically. But no brainers never seem to happen in the NFL.

I think it would be wise to always be the aggressor and go for 2 unless there are game on the situations where the 1 point is mandatory and it makes more sense to take the higher probability play in that situation. And like you said, running from the 2 probably is a higher percentage play further helping a team like Buffalo. But again, if it makes sense people in the NFL don't do it.

  16. No doubt they'll have to be winners or LA fans will find something else to entertain them.

    @CharleyCasserly

With move to LA #Rams need to make major push to get QB in Draft. The thrill of a new team will wear off fast if they are not a winner

Um, the fact that this is being applied to the LA teams only is ridiculous because most teams have trouble filling stadium when the team isn't good. Winning sells tickets, always has, always will

  17. I love the Rams coming here and the Raiders not, for the time being. I live just 10 min away from there in a little beach community and will be awesome to be able to just catch an Uber and go to the games...but even better is that I can actually go to the games now since its NOT the Raiders...at least for now as I know there are still possibilities over the next year they can come and bring their a-hole fans. Going to a Raider game sucks...fans are terrible, seen them even attack their own fans for simply not having silver and black on at a game. So glad those idiots are not coming here...and by idiots, I mean Raider fans.

Best part is the Bills play at the Rams this year, meaning game for me in LA to see the Bills next year...so excited about that. Plus, I used to like the Rams as a kid before the Bills, so always liked to see them do well. I look forward to being able to get behind them again as a second team as well...Bills will be my first love always though, I must like the pain lol.

  18. Lets keep in mind whats really at play here...we are not on a list to be chosen. We are on a PLAN B list, thats it. The only way the list of eligible teams becomes a factor is if no other organizations, including ones who have been on the show before, don't step up and say they are willing to do it. If any of the 32 teams say they will do it, regardless of level of public interest in that team, then they will be the team on Hard Knocks. If multiple teams volunteer, then they will choose between those volunteers.

The Bills are eligible to be forced to do it only if none of the 32 teams agree to be part of the show. The Bills could of course put their name in the hat for consideration by offering to be part of the show as well. In the event no one team has offered to be part of the show, the NFL will choose one based on qualifying criteria. And this year, the Bills are one of the teams that fit the qualifying criteria and would not be able to refuse the show if the NFL tapped the Bills to be team under that scenario.

To date, as far as I know, that rule has never been used, meaning there has never been a season where the team on the show was forced to be on that show via the rule. So before we start penciling the Bills in, keep in mind the odds are some team or teams will be open to being on the show. So unless the Bills openly volunteer to be in consideration for the show, the odds are pretty low the Bills will be on next years Hard Knocks. In the event that the list comes into play, there are still other teams that the league will consider, including some with bigger markets, so we are still not a lock to be chosen.

All that being said, I do think there is a possibility we make ourselves eligible for the selection process though as I would think both Terry and the front office see value in raising our media profile. I think Whaley has been against it in the past if I am not mistaken, but at the end of the day its also a business and it makes good business sense to increase our media exposure. Not to mention, Rex is a players coach and profiling him and his relationship with the players could add some recruitment value in seasons moving forward, especially if we have a strong season next year.

  19. I just saw a locker clean-out interview with Jerry Hughes. I saw it on Twitter and can't get it right now but it's on bills.com I think and someone will link it I'm sure.

It's possible I'm reading into this but Hughes sounded to me like the players didn't put the work in in training camp to learn the playbook. I don't think he was talking about anyone in particular but just that they should have had the defense down, they had time to get it down, even before the season, and they just didn't get it down. He was a very standup guy about it.

I was watching a Sabres game this year against the Columbus Blue Jackets. They were coming off an season where they ended on a 12-0-1 win streak but didn't make the playoffs. This year everyone everywhere thought they were going to be one of the better teams in the league and they have been terrible. The announcers were interviewing a guy who was there at the beginning of the season and he said it was immediately clear to him that these guys weren't prepared. They came into the season positive they were going to be great but didn't put the work in, didn't work their ass off in training camp, and just assumed they would start winning because of the way they played together at the end of last year.

I think that's very possible what happened to the Bills defense.

They just assumed they would be great because they had been great in 2014 and now had Rex. And they knew they knew how to play defense. But they may not have put the hours and work in to learn the new defense the way they should have.

So maybe it wasn't all Rex's scheme and the blame goes half on the players.

That said, I still think that Rex had an absolutely horrible year with his game plans and strategy and trying to be too cute. So even if it was more the players fault than we thought it wasn't less his fault for not pressuring, pressing, and doing what he does best in 14 of the 16 games.

Mario made recent comments too about better understanding the D or simplifying it. Seems there may be something to it

  20. I very much think Thurman needs to go. I know Rex is the supposed architect, but Thurman has to take responsibility for a D that great regressed under him as head D coordinator. It may be Rex design, but he's the one thats supposed to implement it. While we did sustain injuries, it doesn't explain the poor use of talent, lack of pressure for guys paid a lot to pressure, etc.

I would very much like to see us jettison him and bring back Pettine for the role or schwartz, although I think Schwartz wont want the job if they even considered him.
