Based on what I was told - which was don't expect DL in the first unless there is a big run on DBs - and what Beane said at his presser before the draft, I don't think DT/DL was ever going to be the pick. I shared this with some people here in private, but I had some people I trust tell me the other day that Bills have secondary weighted higher than DL heading into the draft. Beane echoed this himself almost verbatim talking about the value of a guy playing near 100% of the snaps vs a DL in how we like to rotate them being a 2 down player and seeing 40-50% snaps and the overall impact said player has based on snap counts. And @GunnerBilloriginally pointed out to me too that if you look at our predraft visits, none of the expected first DT's were players we had in. We only met with guys like Harmon and Grant at the combine, but no documented visits or further meetings with them since. The DT's we had in were all guys expected to be more 2nd round targets or later, and the DB's we were meeting with had more guys we would likely need to target at 30 to land. So...I think its pretty clear that secondary help was their primary target heading into the draft with our first pick. As with any draft, how it falls could have impacted that, but everything points to they got a guy who was a primary target.

I mean...if this regime knows a position its CB...so I think with this staff and Tre mentoring, this kid just landed in a great spot to reach his potential. -
Bills First Rnd pick in 2025 draft: Maxwell Hairston - CB - Kentucky

I mean they had their pick of almost every top CB in the draft...so I would guess that says it pretty much had to be the guy they really wanted. -

Finally some speed in our secondary...much needed. -
Im still bullish on both Kincaid and Coleman...so youre doing just fine in my book
-
Lord knows we need some speed in our secondary

Finally some speed in our secondary!

Never thought Will Johsnon would be here...wondering if they pull the trigger. BPA IMHO

Odd side note...my buddy just text me he is playing in a softball game right now against T.O. Lol

Cowboys tehcnically did it when they took Aikman in the first and then Steve Walsh in the first of the Supplemental draft that year. Skins did it with RG3 and Cousins in the 4th. Its such an important position, and they been stuck in medicority or worse...not the craziest idea TBH.

I dont love that Balt got Starks here to pair with Hamilton. Don't like it at all to be honest.
-
Det I think goes edge here...I mean Bills probably have their pick of all the top CBs here...while a trade down could still be in play, I would think they would just take their guy.
-
Ravens taking a DB here...either S or CB I have to imagine
-
I misheard the trade comp...I didn't realize Atlanta gave up next years first. That seems a bit steep, but it was a big move up, so makes sense. Like this move for the Rams, they might be in the market for life after Stafford next year and now have 2 firsts to potentially shop.

I like making the playoffs...while Bengals fans watch other teams do it.

Its not a crime...I am all for a WR. I am saying some of you talk like our offense is in the muck and its not close to our biggest problem. I am pounding the table for Donte Thornton all off season personally. Address the D, add a 6'5" 4.3 WR in the mid rounds, and lets go! And you would also take the Bengals WR room...as anyone would...they havent made the playoffs since 2022 with Joe Burrow who had a better season than the MVP Allen did this year statistically in most categories.
-
Im all for drafting a WR...and I know we will IMHO. I am just saying there is theme like our offense is in the muck even coming off a historically great offensive season.
-
How about we look at this way: Who scored more points? Bills or them? Who won MVP? Who was the 16th highest scoring offense in NFL history? Bills or them? Who has scored the most points in the NFL over the past 5 seasons? I get it...we all love WR's and points...Ive pounded the table plenty for a WR...so I do really get it. I am just saying this exaggeration of how deprived we are is over the top and its not even close to the reason we haven't won a SB.

This is gonna be Dart, not Sanders I suspect
-
Damn! I wanted to trade with Giants
-
I love how this round fell for us... Trade back to top of 2nd with the Giants and pick up a late 3rd at 99 then use the 3rd on 6'5" 4.3 speed WR Donte Thornton.
-
Honestly this board is falling perfect for Beane in potentially 2 ways...either the guys they covet is getting closer or the cluster at the top of the board is big and they can comfortably move back, maybe with Giants who want to get ahead of Cleveland for a QB and giving us a 3rd back and still landing a top prospect in the secondary.
-
DL is deep, lot of good players still on the board for us
