  1. As a football diehard, I also like Mayock. But last Saturday, I could see how an average fan who might have not played football could get lost in his X's and O's style. He's machine-like in that way, and doesn't have the same down-to-earth analysis style that Haden had. That being said, I loved it. It was his first Notre Dame game, so I think he'll grow into it.
  2. I have been told I do a good Keith Jackson impression. OK, yes, Enberg is great. But let's not beat around the bush here. He was the gold standard 20 years ago. His age is showing now. He's reminding me of Van in the tail end of his career.
  3. Very good. And a voice that could silence a crying baby.
  4. I agree with the original comment about Fox. Can't listen to Joe Buck, though Aikman is solid. Gus Johnson is decent and excitable, but he's still rough around the edges. He sounds like a really, really good college student announcer, if that makes any sense. Tasker isn't good. The best play-by-play guy out there, and it's a shame he isn't used more often, is Sean McDonough. He does mainly college football stuff for ESPN, but made his name doing the World Series for CBS in the early '90s. Even then he was in his mid-20s and was one of the best.
  5. I am homechurched.
  6. Come on, guy. The Bills haven't made the playoffs in a decade. Don't talk about objectivity and bias. It's clearly the Bills, and really, it's not all that close.
  7. Nobody talks about Travis Brown like that and gets away with it.
  8. But there's hope for the Eagles. The News writes positive stuff about the Sabres -- and Bills -- when they are playing well. Let's please not forget that it's a news organization, not a marketing company. I'm willing to say the bulk of Average Joe fans are just as pumped about the atmosphere -- home Bills games are cultural events that happen only seven times a year -- than the actual football game. The game wasn't sold out because of the Bills-Dolphins rivalry, that's for sure, so his point is still well made.
  9. I know Kelly was scheduled to appear on the Dan Patrick Show this morning. He still wasn't on by the time I got to work. Just curious of what he had to say. Anybody catch it?
  10. A lot of people say this, but is there really any truth to it?
  11. For what it's worth, Harrington has been with the News since the '80s, so he's not new to this rivalry.
  12. Bills fans? A ridiculous amount.
  13. The Buffalo News isn't the Bills' public relations or marketing arm.
  14. He's talking about the Average Joe fan, not the fan who cares enough to create an account on a fan message board. Also, there's little doubt the rivalry -- especially on the Buffalo side -- has lost much of its luster.
  15. I think you're right on the season, but wrong on the game. The Bills opened that year at home against the Jets, but that famous call was made a month later in the Meadowlands.
  16. Contain the run is right. Brown's in a contract year, and with Marshall spreading the field, their run game will only get better. But Marshall won't be the one you have to watch in this one -- Hartline could pick the Bills apart underneath, especially if a linebacker is forced to cover him. All that being said, I think emotions will run high at the Ralph on Sunday, with the Bills picking up a 26-24 win.
  17. Pittsburgh.
  18. In what way is the Buffalo franchise not hapless? Could it be set for a turnaround? Quite possibly, but it hasn't happened yet.
  19. Had a big interception, too. (Wait, or did he just tip a pass? Can't remember). That might have been the last time a Bill not named Kevin Everett was on the cover of Sports Illustrated -- big Sam Adams huffing and puffing his way to the end zone. Absolutely perfect weather for that game, too.
  20. A lot of things are unfortunate for a lot of people.
  21. Thank you. They were picked to finish either fifth or sixth in the West. Michigan was ranked fourth or fifth in the country if I remember correctly.
