  1. Obviously the whole premise of this thread is invalid because Mike did grow up here, loves the area, has had numerous offers to leave but choose to stay and hosts the number one talk show in the area. Mike loves hockey and baseball and admittedly football is not his favorite sport. There may be a lot to disagree with but to post something that is totally incorrect is infantile and ridiculous. By the way the whole " I usually defend this or I am a fan of this but" is one of the most laughed about cliches when the mike's off.
  2. Posted on PFT The Philadelphia Eagles have addressed reports that cornerback Sheldon Brown wants out of town. And here’s the team’s statement. “It’s very unfortunate and counterproductive that Sheldon has chosen to go public with his feelings about his situation. After thorough evaluation by himself and discussions with his family and agents, he chose to accept an extension of his rookie contract early that provided his family financial security for the rest of his life. It removed any concerns about health or performance that all other players in his draft class had to worry about. He has four years remaining on that contract and, after taking the signing bonus and his first two years of salary into account, we feel that Sheldon is being paid fairly. Focusing only on a player’s salary for a given year is not a valid analysis. “There have been league MVP’s, Super Bowl champion quarterbacks, and perennial Pro Bowlers who have been in a similar situation. All of their teams have required them to wait until their contract expired or there was only one year remaining before any adjustment took place. It is only in the most extraordinary, in fact, less than a handful of circumstances in the last ten years that any players two new years into a contract with three years left have been adjusted. We don’t think this qualifies as an extraordinary circumstance. “Sheldon’s comments under the circumstances actually serve to devalue him in a trade if we were willing to consider it; which we are not.” The same statement could be used as to Shawn Andrews, Mike Patterson, and any other Eagles player who signed a long-term deal that, after a few years, suddenly didn’t look quite as good in the ultimate bastion of “Who’s Got The Biggest, Um, Money Clip?” — an NFL locker room. But the Sheldon Brown situation confirms our long-held belief that the Eagles shouldn’t have signed good young players to ultra-long-term deals prematurely. It all looks good on paper, but holding a guy to the terms of a deal with base salaries that eventually pale in comparison to younger and, in the mind of the Sheldon Browns of the world, lesser players creates a bad atmosphere. And it could work to keep the Eagles from getting that long-coveted Super Bowl title, in our view
  3. So now the first 50 picks equal the first round? You can try and make the numbers say anything you want but the fact of the matter is championship teams use different strategies to get there no matter how certain you think that only you can be right.
  4. They thought they had a deal with Jacksonville that would have allowed them to leap ahead of Pittsburgh. You know how much Donahoe wanted to screw Pittsburgh. Jacksonville instead drafted Reggie Williams who apparently they thought wouldn't be there when they drafted.
  5. The point being that there is no one way to build a Super Bowl team. As previously stated only 2 of the 7(Pittsburgh played twice) teams that played on the last 4 Super Bowls had a LT they drafted first. And on those same seven teams only 3 of their quarterbacks were first round picks. If you go by straight percentages, and I'm saying you should, it would seem that your odds are better if you don't draft a quarterback or a left tackle in the first round.
  6. And Tait wasn't picked by the Bears so only 2 out of hte 8 teams had LT's that they drafted #1.
  7. Do you know how many starting left tackles in the league were drafted in the first round? How about the left tackles of the eight teams that played in the last four Super Bowls? You may be surprised.
  8. Time period for restricted free agents to sign elsewhere has passed so Austin stayed and they don't need Parrish.
  9. Five things. 1) I have no problem with Wilson's article. It states a widely held opinion and he has every write to write that in a column. 2) Mark Gaughan is on vacation. 3) The Bills, like the Sabres, act like spoiled children because they don't like the negative press they wait till they are out of town to make any kind of comments. 4) It is no coincidence that teams wait till late Friday to announce any potentially negative or controversial pieces. They know they can usually by pass the beat writers, regular radio talk show host and sports directors this way. 5) The News web site provided many pieces on the trade.
  10. The Jackson/ Peters thing is interesting. The Bill's are under no obligation to pay Jackson anymore then the minimum tender. Every dollar they give him over that is a bonus. About three years ago they were in a similar position with Peters. In what they thougt was a judicious move they locked him up early and gave what was then a generous contract about a year or two earlier then they had to thinking it would pay off in the end. Funny thing,Peters and his agent aren't giveing them any discount price this time to reflect the fact that he made about $2 million more then he would have if they didn't try to be proactive. I can't blame the Bills for not going out of their way to take care of a 28 year old back up running back.
  11. If money isn't an issue, club seats are the safest bet for someone that young.
  12. It used to be club seat holders only. This year its open to all season ticket holders.
  13. For what its worth, I am looking for a partner for my seats in the Jim Kelly Club. I have 4 seats in the sixth row at around the 10 yard line closest to the tunnel end zone. My deal with my former partner was that I got the home opener and then he chose the next two games. In teh event there was a home playoff game, we would each get two tickets. If anyone interested send me a pm and I will give further details.
  14. 1) Trade deadline is fourth or fifth week of season. No late season trades in the NFL. 2) I would bet there is a "no franchise tag" clause in the contract
  15. Finally. It is amazing to me how some have no idea of the difference between beat reporter and columnist. Jerry Sullivan is a great writer and one of the most respected columnist in the country.
  16. Do they really need another undersized linebacker?
  17. You are wrong. While I do think I'm smarter then the majority I do not consider myself in any way better. That's for someone else to judge. The funny part is that nowhere in the Bills' press release have I seen them call it 50th anniversary. Its the so called journalist and headline writers that have erred in that regard.
  18. Thank you and others of the same ilk who have given anecdotal evidence proving the hypothesis that if you took all the money in the world and distributed it evenly throughout the population, within 9 months the people that now make up the top 10% of the wealthiest would again make up the top 10%. I'll look forward to your next enlightened response after you have time to call somone to explain this to you.
  19. Didn't mean to confuse you. It is the 50th season, it is not the 50th anniversary season.
  20. I have quite a full and rich life but thank you for caring. I think the inability to count, or spell for that matter, whether it be the check out person or my favorite football team is embarrassing. But you do have the right to come up with such brilliant retorts.
  21. So was 1960 their inaugural season or their 1st anniversary season? You can't have it both ways. It should be noted that in all the releases from the team it is referred to as the 50th season. It is the headline makers that are calling it their 50th anniversary.
  22. It is the 50th season, not the 50th anniversary. Please don't embarrass us further.
  23. He might not get $7 or 8 million, but he will easily get more then what the Bills are offering. The Bills' offer is typical PR spin. Teams are paying their nickel backs that much.
