It's time to grade the 2006 Bills Draft
spartacus replied to BillsVet's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For any fan with half a brain to believe the spin that OBD knew nothing of what Peters wanted is absurd and a direct result of the propaganda generated by Brandon. a real GM would have dealt with his best player and not created the circus that surrounded the team the entire off-season. Brandon has already started this year's smear campaign so expect another holdout and circus in 2009. -
so how many of our horrible castoffs are enjoying

well not after spending a major bulk of our draft and FA resources on acquiring DBs, of course there is no room. -
there was absolutely no need to cut Milloy BEFORE the draft. by doing so, the Bills locked themselves into being forced to spend premium picks on the secondary, thus precluidng filling other more serious, pre-exsiting holes- like the OL and defensive front 7. This stupidity of this move is further compounded because Ngata was the consensus player to be available at the Bills pick. By keeping Milloy, could have given themselves flexibility to draft Ngata if there, or a DB if all other options were gone. They repeated this concept by trading McGahee and being forced to draft Lynch at #12 instead of filling other more serious holes. Lynch has been a great player for Buffalo, but again he is not a gamebreaker because he lacks breakaway speed. Not to mention they had a player of similar production in Fred Jackson but had no clue about him, even though he already was their property. the Bills need new talent evaluators

sure there were players that had to go. but they did not have to go all at once, immediately. You are correct that Levy had a plan. Unfortunately that plan is seriously flawed. Part 1 of the plan focused on wasting premium draft picks on DBs and other small players to play in a scheme which plays those DBs 10 yards off the ball. Major waste of resoruces Part 2 of the plan guytted the team and forced the team to waste resources to fill unneeded holes. Part 3 was the continued innoring of the OL and DL -
Mort just said a few interesting things

NE, being a very savvy organization will probably trade Brady as soon as he can pass a physical. He's damaged goods, will likely never return to prior form and will bring a boatload of picks. -

Can't see how you conclude fans are waking up to the ineptness of the clown show at OBD when they are hellbent on running Jason Peters out of town based on the propaganda spun by Russ Brandon. -
Another Jauron/Wilson column...

probably because if we had kept Milloy, instead of cutting him of nothing in return, we would not been compelled to draft his replacement in Whitner and could have drafted Ngata. the Bills arrogantly created unnecessary holes by ditching the above players, and then wasted premium picks on replacng them with players with worse production. Since the Bills are so worried about continuity, the place to start would have been with roster- isntead of gutting it to fit the magical cover-2 and offensive abortion they are running. -
then Favre is the man he doesn't do what good coaches tell him - so no way he listens to our crackerjack staff every pass is an adventure- so the excitement level would be good. he would be setting NFL records with every pick he threw just the guy the bills need to take the focus off big Dick

McCargo was hurt when drafted- which makes it even more idiotic to waste 2 high picks on a player with bad feet. -
Rumor has it that John Guy thinks Losman is better than all others available and will franchise him to keep him in Buffalo
-
Bell may turn out to be serviceable However, your offense is in serious trouble when the gameplan at OBD is to rely on 7th round flyers and undrafted converted TEs to anchor your OL. The bills caught lightning in a bottle with Peters, the chances of them doing it again with inferior coaching is laughable. If the Bills had spent a premium pick or two every few years on the OL, they would not have been compelled to seriously overpay Walker and Dockery to just be able to field a functional OL.

The point with Whitner is that someone taken at #8 should be a playmaker by himself, not dependent on having above average players all around him. sounds a lot like Bledsoe - he be real good if everyone else on the team was real good too. While Whitner is a solid starter, the Bills will never be contenders if that's all they get from their high #1 picks. Top 10 picks need to be bona fide, impact playmakers. -
this is basically nonsense - but typical of the kind of analysis generated from the clown show at OBD. when does a stud DT that can push the pocket not fit any defensive scheme?? It's even a dumber comment when the Bills have attempted to play their undersized DTs on the nose.
-
Talent evaluators with half a brain knew who had the skills and the motivation. Cutler did not make Vanderbilt a winner, but almost single handed he made them competitive in the SEC.
-
the pick should have benn Ngata. Whitner is less of a bust than Leinart has been. At least Whitner has been solid - Leinart is riding the pine and has been awful when he has played

it's all part of the Brandon plan to assassinate Peter's thru the media and message boards. Fans bought his crap last year, this year he's starting early. If Brandon was a real GM, he would have had a meeting with Peters before he left town to address the contract situation since he promised Peters a new deal in 2008.
-
so this is Brandon's strategy to counter-act the Big Dick disaster. divert attention by orchestrating a vicious smear campaign against the team's best player. By swallowing this propaganda hook, line and sinker - Bills fans justify the ineptness that Ralph keeps handing out Even in a down year, Peters is light years better than the $50 mil slug he plays next to - but it is Peters who gets the crap because he was dedicated enough to develop from an undrafted walkon to a Pro Bowl (without the huge upfront payday) Only in Buffalo are the fans so ignorant.
-
things will change now that Modrak has been added to the inner circle. For the last 8 years, his and Guy's impecable player evaluations have justified those wacked out salaries.
-
that's right, we need to set aside at least a few of those top 3 round picks for DBs
-
yeah- sort of like they did last year knowing Peters was boycotting all Bills activities

I would like to hear it from Jauron directly,

what you will hear from Brandon is that 1. he had no idea the fans were upset because they never spoke to him directly about the miserable 2008 collapse. 2. If those fans buy tickets and show up for games in 2009, then he will consider issuing a statement. 3. Bills fans will eat it up and demand than all these non-team fans be traded away immediately, if not cut outright. business as usual at the clown show
