  1. This topic made me crack up before I even opened it. Well played.
  2. Anyone else find it odd that DUI/DWI not in there? He left a bar room brawl at 3:15am and you're trying to tell me the guy wasn't drunk too?
  3. Lets just review Here's our current team's penalty rankings. Hopefully this table will format OK. Penalty yardage (top 10 on Buffalo, plus the rest of the d-line for reference) Rank Player # of Penalties Yards Avg/Game 1 Hughes 9 - 84 6 2 Gilmore 7 - 74 5.28 3 McKelvin 5 - 70 5 4 D Williams 5 - 61 5 A Williams 3 - 58 4.14 6 S Chandler 6 - 55 3.92 7 C Glenn 6 - 39 2.57 8 N Bradham 6 - 36 2.57 9 S Watkins 5 - 35 2.5 10 E Pears 3 - 34 2.42 19 M Dareus 3 - 15 1.07 20 K Williams 2 - 15 1.07 30 M Williams 1 - 5 0.35 People act like we're playing fantasy football here where we get 2pts per sack -- these penalty yards are real and do translate into points scored against us. Please note the rest of our d-line... #19, #20, and #30 on the team in penalties called against. Hughes has twice as many penalty yards versus that entire line PUT TOGETHER. And finally, an unrelated point that I'm sure has been discussed in the other J Hughes thread -- It's pretty difficult to judge him on his own merits when the rest of this pro-bowl line is drawing the double coverages away from him. So no, he's not worth breaking the bank for. Just my opinion.
  4. I'm pretty sure both my larger posts state pretty explicitly that I don't want to get rid of him.
  5. Who said he was one dimensional? But the penalty numbers are what they are... He costs us a ton of penalty yards. And no one said don't pay him, just don't break the bank.
  6. Good all around player absolutely but this was really about all the negative plays he makes too. Someone here posted that he's got 84 yrds of penalties this year. The Bills have 923 for the whole year. So he's got 9% of all team penalty yards. Assuming 22 players, not counting subs, a player should have 4.5% of penalties (1/22). So he's getting double his share of penalties. FWIW, he's 18th in the league in penalty yardage. Not only that but they come at awful times. 2 really stand out to me. In the Denver game, 3rd and 8 from the 34 (a 51 yard FG). Pass incomplete but unsportsmanlike conduct on Hughes. So a missable FG turns into a fresh set of downs and Denver marches down and scores a TD. So at a minimum thats 4pts lost directly by Hughes. In reality though that's a lower percentage FG and a miss sets you up with great field position. So it really cost you closer to 7pts. In the Pats game he had a unsportsmanlike, a roughing the Passer, and an offsides. The first penalty moved the Pats from the 38 to the 23,and had it not been for a rare Gostkowski miss would have led to points. The roughing the Passer penalty extended a drive in the 4th qtr and led to points. One other item which I'm sure many of you will take issue with. Sacks are great, but are usually for 4-7 yards. So he's got what... 10? So let's say that's about 60yards of "performance". Yet his personal fouls are 15 each AND give the opposing offense 3 new downs. All I'm saying is you can't look at his stats in isolation. And again, I'm not saying you don't re-sign the guy, I'm just saying you don't talk yourself into over paying because you ignore the yards he costs you on his bone head plays.
  7. Don't get me wrong. I stand in awe of Jerry Hughes on many plays. He gets to the QB quick, causes general havoc, forces turnovers, he's a monster. I want him on my team. Ok, now that we've gotten that out of the way. He costs this team too many plays as well. How many Personal Foul Calls has he had this year? This is a serious question...for someone with more time than me, can you look up how many it is? And how many of them occurred while the bills D had their oppoentn on 3rd down. Multiple times this year, i've seen 3rd and whatever, stopped short or incomplete, Personal Foul on Hughes...then a few plays later (after a 15yrd mark off and automatic 1st down)... TD opposing team. I swear to god, after each of his boneheaded PF calls the opposing team scores, and let me tell you these were not in unimportant games. In the Miami game, in the KC game, in the Den game -- he had PF calls in at least 2 of 3 of those. All 3 critical to our success in the AFC and all 3 lost, and unless I'm going batty, 2 of 3 with major Hughes PF calls. Did he have positive plays in those games? Absolutely he did, but his idiocy has cost us critical points at critical times. So i grant you, there are times this season he's been stellar, directly leading to points by our offense (or scoring himself), but at times his faults completely outweigh the positive things he does. So sure, give him a reasonable contract, hell give him a big contract. I want him on my team but lets not let his amazing plays blind us to the fact that this guy costs us plenty as well. The dude needs to figure out how to behave on the field. Maybe the overzealousness, the aggression is the price you have to pay for monster defenders. JJ Watt has had his share of roughing & PF penalties this season but the ones that I've seen this season on Hughes to me always seem avoidable to me. Maybe our defense is that good that they can spot teams 15yards and a 1st regularly. Maybe that's the case, but this is the NFL. You do that enough, you pay. Anyway, just my 2c. Tell me why I'm a moron. Tell me you haven't watched games this season and screamed at the TV -- "We had them, why do they get to keep playing" and then look at your TV and see that, oh yeah, Hughes just committed a PF and they get the ball again, and only this time 15yards closer to the end zone. Absolutely maddenning. Anyway - since I don't post very often i'll only add this: Viva la 14% -- lets beat oakland and become big pittsburgh, Denver, Texans, and 49ers fans. http://www.syracuse....ff_picture.html
  8. Pretty sure the previous comment is dripping with Sarcasm.
  9. I have no issues at all with the pickup and seems like the guy has a ton of talent, but are we getting a little ahead of ourselves saying this guy is the next big thing and a day-one starter? People with character issues get drafted all the time, but this guy had 32 teams pass on him x 7 rounds (including the Bills passing on him 8 times). So if he's such an amazing talent, why wasn't he taken? It can't *just* be character because thugs, idiots and potheads get drafted all the time in this league...
  10. For some reason, this website isn't working for me. I get all sorts of "Warning" & "MySQL-Query" errors... Very odd. Will check back later...
  11. Anyone know If you buy the PS3 version can you also watch on PC/Mobile as well or is it ONLY PS3?
  12. Did spiller get hurt? Why all the Tashard Choice touches?
  13. Everyone at the bar (that I'm still at) was incredulous at the non-completion. The Refs !@#$ed us big time. At least 5-6 awful calls.
  14. How is this guy Andre Gurode? Made the pro bowl a few years w/ Dallas as a Center... Any interest? http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d821cedcf/article/boys-release-of-pro-bowl-c-gurode-sends-message-to-team
  15. True, and if he sucks against presumably pats 2nd stringers you know he sucks and you can cut him and develop another QB. The point is, that you know what you have in fitz after watching him for 3 qtrs and how many regular season games. You haven't seen anything from Brohm this season. Whats the point of Keeping fitz in? Because he's having such a great game?
  16. Hmm... looks like fitz is still in the game. Smart move Chan...when you're 4-10, soon to be 4-11, why would you want to see what kind of players you have on your team for next year.
  17. So... Someone will have to tell me after they kick the FG here and go up by 31pts. Your QB is <50% with 2 INTs and 2(? or more?) Fumbles. With the game out of reach, are they playing our back-up QB?
  18. Didn't see this posted. $22 = $15 Ticket + $7 in fees. Regular price $68(?) http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/000044A59FAE8DB1?did=ubalumni&camefrom=CFC_BUYAT_skimbit Saw the deal posted over here: http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/1057574/
  19. Just lost my stream of the game... But, lets see how good our former pro-bowl punter is...
  20. Really? Cuz Clausen has been lighting it up? I think people are beginning to realize there's a reason he fell so far in the draft. Clausen: 101/200 attempts (barely over 50%) for 1,056 yards... 1 TD / 5 INTs in 6 starts; Sacked 19 times, Fumbled it 8 Times. Compare that to McCoy: 81/127 (64%) for 975 yards 3TD/3Int in 5 starts; Sacked 15 times / Fumbled 0 times. Or Bradford (although it's clear he's in a different league than these two). 268/442 (60%) for 2653 yards 17TD-10Int; 24 sacks; 3 Fumbles Honestly, you know who Clausen's stats look the most like of all the starting QBs in the league? Derek Anderson (although Anderson's are better). I'm no NFL historian but if Cowher were to coach the Panthers don't you think he'd want to start fresh with a new QB given that he didn't win a super bowl until he had an elite QB (Roethlisberger). I'll get back to #3 in a second but i'll answer your question #4. How many games has Fitz won for the Bills? This season 2. How many has Jimmy Clausen won for Carolina? Yes, that's right -- ZERO. So would Carolina want a bottom tier QB or would they want a "playmaker"? You don't hitch your wagon to a second round pick that can barely complete more than 50% of his passes. If Luck is there (i.e. he enters the draft) people are going to take him and most likely Carolina will take him because they are simply god-awful. As for Fitz, I don't know. I love the story and in interviews he seems like a good guy, but is he an elite QB? probably not. We absolutely need help on Defense -- We get no pass rush and we get gashed in the running game. I would rather skip QB this year unless they are sold on Mallett or Locker (or Newton?). Just my 2c.
