  1. Do you think you could consolidate your thoughts into a single thread instead 10?
  2. P.S. As my new avatar indicates - this whole situation reminds me of Shallow Hal. BillsNation gaze upon Marv as Gweneth Paltrow, yet the rest of the world views him as Rosie O'Donnell... The question is, which group needs the glasses?
  3. It is a question that cannot be answered, but I put Polian 1st and the HoF players he stocked the team with 2nd. In my mind, Levy was always a distant 3rd... I guess I remember all the arguments about us being outcoached back then (arguments that never seem to be made about Gibbs, Parcells, and company). I remember him being shown the door by a disgruntled fan base (again, not something other HoF caliber coaches face). And most importantly, I look at the 40+ positions that have been filled since Marv's departure w/o a single team giving him the clipboard. A HoF coach that no one (in the position of actually hiring a coach) wanted. Even after he begged to coach, no one wanted him. Can you conceive of Joe Gibbs suffering such a fate? Parcells? Walsh? The list goes on... So, while the NFL may have respect for Marv and the way he handles himself - the proof is in the pudding. He was a coach that made it into the HoF, that no one else wanted when he was available... Does that not strike you or anybody else as very, fuggin' weird? I do. If I was so wrong in my assessment, if I was so offbase - why wouldn't another team - any team - take a flyer on him? Polian, despite his kind words, didn't even hire him for Indy. He claims to have "pushed" for him to get back into teh league, just not for his team... That is a vote of confidence for you. There is an awful lot of smoke here. I can listen to teh Bills faithful who tell me he walks on water, or I can take note of the 31 other NFL teams that could give a flip about him. I guess the latter holds more weight to me. But, that is just my opinion.
  4. I know I mentioned the "timeliness" of Marv's quote in another post in this thread, but I also forgot to mention the other reason why this is relevant. This whole "we are going after high character guys" is such utter BS and the fact that Marv mentioned it in his PC just further cements my image of him. As is evidenced by this thread - no one can even define what Marv means by "character", but it sure sounds good. Like a politician who is for education and for civil rights, who isn't going to cheer for that? Who says - "I want complete lowlifes on my team!!!"? GG thinks character means (if Marv is consistant frm past to present) playing hard between the whistles. Does TO not play hard? Did Deion Sanders not play hard? Did Bryan Cox not play hard? Are these the character guys that we are considering or avoiding? Would Steve Smith find a place on this team? He does a lot of celebrating... My point is - this whole "character" thing is equivalent to the CEO announcing the company will pursue "synergy". It's a buzz word that means squat. The Buffalo Bills need football players who have more talent than the other teams and they need better coaches who put those players in positions to take advantage of that talent. It is really that simple. No string of corny cliches have ever beaten a football team...
  5. I have no problems with that, his memories are his memories, but when you write something like that (the passage in question) that is just so easily dismissed then it isn't out of line to call him on it.
  6. The biggest showboat of all was Bruce, who actually played way beyond his usefulness to get a sack record. The ultimate "look at me" pursuit...
  7. I find it topical because Levy seems to share a common trait with those who are cheering his return - a romanticizing of a past that never happened. You can take it any way YOU want, but you would need to disregard what was actually written. Backwards baseball caps have nothing to do play between the whistles. Marv was simply trying to elevate the team that played for him beyond their talent level. He was romanticizing that time period by trying to portray those guys as not only having superb tyalent, but of being of high moral character. In that way, he attempts to toot his own horn (I am a great man, I would only allow great men on my team, therefore I led great men, blah, blah, blah...) He should have written your version, but he didn't. Clearly, we will never know that answer, but IMHO the answer is a lot more than 1.
  8. too bad Marv will pass on "showboaters" like Steve Smith. Oh well, Smith probably would hurt our team more with those snow angels than with all those catches/TDs/yards anyway.
  9. what ever floats your boat big fella...
  10. his throwing mechanics will do him... JMO, but he will be a bust.
  11. Just a pyschology experiment. "Levy fan" fills the blank too... Maybe a visit to Dr. Phil could help you with those self-esteem issues.
  12. would you just read the damn passage he wrote and stop trying to manipulate it into a truth? The guy walked down a hall, looked at pictures and had delusions. It isn't that hard. Maybe we should all block out the fact that Bennett forced anal sex on a woman, but maybe we shouldn't write books proclaiming his virtues either.
  13. then I suggest you avoid his book. Your issue is with Marv - not me.
  14. I'm sorry if your reading comprehension is a bit off today. Marv apparently wrote something in his book that was complete BS. Now we have people suggesting this BS be read to other people, as somehow repeating this lie would make an impression. I have skeletons in my closet just like these players... A few rapes, some drug abuse, stiffed people out $1000's... I mean who HASN'T had a few of these "transgressions" in their past? BTW, it is NOT a fact that Levy is an improvement. It is a FACT that we will have to wait and see what happens.
  15. Holy crap... if you believe this crap then you are a bigger <fill in the blank> than I thought. Cornelius Bennett stuck some poor girl in the can against her will, Jim Kelly threw drinks in women's faces, partied his ass off, and stuck small businesses with the tab for his failed restaurant. Bruce Smith never participated in training camp, was suspended for substance abuse, and was found asleep at a stop light (I also believe there is a famous picture on the bench with his hat sideways). He also celebrated after EVERYTHING he did. Thurman Thomas told some poor kid to go f' his mother (or something similar)... I'm sure the list goes on and on and on... So if WM can even read, I expect him to throw the book back poor ol' Marv and call him a liar.
  16. Still can't believe the Giants wanted him as HC....
  17. It's there. Works fine for me in Firefox. PTS was just warning that with the Marv announcement, there ay be server issues. Your issues have something to do with your cache. Try selecting "loads a fresh page every time" in your preferences.
  18. OK, here's the procedure for AOL: 1. Select settings from the AOL toolbar 2. From settings main view by category 3. Under customize AOL select view all 4. Under How AOL works select internet (web) options 5. On the browser settings page select Clear My Footprints tab 6. Select Clear my Footprints 7. Select Save If not AOL, try clearing your cache.
  19. Is VC ML's director of communications? There are so many inaccuracies/spin in there it isn't funny. Yeah Marv, Bennett and Smith never did any showboating... Here is the money quote: "After the retirement of Kelly and with other stars nearing the end of the line, the Bills simply were not the team they had been when the Super Bowl became a virtual fixture on their schedule. It was a good time for him to step aside as a coach. " Exactly. With the team now void of Hall of Fame talent (and Bill Polian waaaaaay back in the rear view mirror) - it was a good time for Club Marv to shut it's doors. What more of an indictment do you need?
  20. In fact, he was so in tune with them that he even paid their bar tab before SB XXV...
  21. you say "fickle", but believe you me - he is ORDERS of magnitudes more popular today than he was as a coach.
  22. and when I say "succeed" I mean succeed to the level of this demanding fan base. That, IMHO, is a division title and a STRONG playoff showing. The chances of that in a small window are remote IMO.
  23. Let's hear it for high motor white guys!
  24. Thank you dear...
  25. Well, well, well.... Vindication baby!!!
