Online Poker Sites

First off, are these sites legal? I was under the assumption that they weren't legal anymore, but lately all I hear about are players who still enjoy normal online poker. I was a big fan of party poker, when it was still available for U.S. citizens. Does anyone here play?

I'm interested in a well regulated and controlled site. I'd prefer something that allows direct payment and not a third party. Someone told me that Sportsbook poker is a great site. I just hesitate putting any money down without having any solid feedback. Thanks in advance.

I use FullTilt poker.

No problems

I use Sportsbook and have for years. I really like them.

What's funny is that I withdrew all of my money in '08, a couple of months before my birthday. My Bday comes around and they send me an email that I'm getting a birthday gift -- twice my age in free cash in my account! Sweet! I've since taken that $68 and turned it into $200, so I've been playing with house money for over a year. :w00t:

I'm not a big stakes guy, but the $1-$10 games (either tournament or sit and go) are fun. The cash tables are good too, but I haven't played one in a couple of years.

If you decide to sign up, let me know and I'll check if there's any referal credits available for either of us (unless the other person who told you about it is going to).

Thanks Fez. I'll let you know if I go with Sportsbook.

I play on pokerstars, no problems.

Same here.

They are all run offshore so outside of US jurisdication. I believe the law enacted a few years ago was aimed at banks and others who provided the financial middleman role to fund individual accounts. I've been playing with the same $50 in my pokerstars account for about five years so I don't know how much of a problem it is to get cash deposited into your account now.

Right, technically playing online isn't the issue, it is funding the accounts. It's a pretty big mess and was pretty shady when it went down (added to a homeland security bill or something). People in the industry are lobbying hard to have it 100% legal again but it probably won't happen overnight. Right now it is up to the sites themselves to determine if they want US players in. A lot of the ones that pulled out of the US are publicly traded in Europe or elsewhere and didn't want to take a risk by catering to US players. I play on Players Only (a small site but had a good promo a few weeks back) and it just took my Visa card and I was playing 30 seconds later.

If you'd really like to support the cause sign up with the PPA

Thanks Magox. Is it a direct buy set up or do you have to involve a third party?

I'm trying to remember, but I believe all you have to do is just give them your debit card info in the 'cashier' section. Once it is setup, it is very easy. You don't have to continue to keep giving them your info, you just decide the amount you want to deposit, and it's immediately deposited.

It's a very easy process.

I am on Full Tilt as well. wish I could say I am like some other guys who never fund their account, but I am not so lucky. I tend to put $100 in, and when it gets to over $500, i get money sent to me. I leave $100 in, but shock of shocks, that gets to $0 little easier than getting it to $500 LOL.

Anyway, I have the debit card option set up as well, no issues. I like you used and really like Party Poker...but like Full Tilt as they have plenty of trny options pretty much all the time. I tend to stay in the $10-$50 range for trnys, and more than enough options to keep me happy.

I like the 45 player $12 games. If I get on a streak I will bump it up a little, but usually just stay in that range. Recently I've gotten a little burnt out, I play a lot better when I'm feeling patient.

Lately I've just been playing a lot of chess on line, don't have to get lucky to beat people.

I'd have to win about 30 tournaments in a row to get to $500 with the stakes I usually play! I used to play $10-$20 one table tourneys but now it's just an occassional thing and I usually play a bigger tourney for a buck or two.

That's the key for me as well. I like playing the heads up games, 10, 20. sometimes 50.00.
