I am interested in your opinion, seems to me a one year contract in Buffalo would bridge the gap till the 2010 draft.

Derrcik Brooks did make the Pro Bowl in 2008 so how bad can he really be?

the problem I see is he can only play middle or strong side - and we dont have a quick enough LB with size to supplant Ellison. Kawika and Poz aren't fast enough to cover on the weak side. being that brooks plays their position, and is slower than both at this point, i can understand that there isn't much need for him, outside an injury... now if we didn't play a 4-3 I'd love him as an ILB along Poz, but we all know thats not changing until cheerio ' chap Jauron is out of town.

Ellison is the Strongside LB (now don't ask me why!) and Kawika is the WLB in our scheme.

sigh

I'm hoping that was merely a (poor) attempt at trolling, and that he actually does know that Derrick Brooks and Keith Brooking are two different people ...

keep in mind though that strongside is the weakside and the weakside is the strongside in our scheme compared with all the others that I've heard.

I think we just discovered Steely is really Crayonz. He must have posted under the wrong account.

As for Brooks, despite that highlight reel, he wasn't all that impressive, overall, last year. He looked pretty old at times.

Still, if I were the Bills FO, I might take a shot on him for one year, at the right price. Perhaps Brooks isn't interested in playing for a team like the Bills at the right price. I know the article says he has received no offers, but agents also contact teams (they just don't sit home and hope someone calls).

Maybe when "Brooks told King he’d like to play at least one more year" he didn't mention that he also wanted to play for a team with a legit chance at the SB, in the south, at $X salary. But I hope the Bills would at least make some sort of an offer.

I think Brooks could take a TO type role, obviously not as good a player anymore, and show players what it takes to succeed and be another coach.

I was exploring the web for a link I saw last season and he did make a comment to the press that he was going to play one more season then hang them up.

Perhaps some team believe his heart is not in the game any longer.

I would love Derrik Brooks for a year.A leader on the field,he would make sure everybody is lined up in the right position to make a play.Nobody knows the cover 2 better.Could not hurt to bring into training camp, atleast have a look.

I believe he could share time with Ellison and would be a big pus on obvious passing situations.

I also think Maybin would benefit from his experience

New England is famous for adding this type of player almost every year.

As a Bucs fan since 1984, having watched Derrick Brooks play almost every game of his career, I can tell you it was SAD to watch him play last year. I would take Ellison over him at this point.

Well, I guess you answered my question

probably because he is really old, slowing down, and his game is based on being able to run really fast sideline to sideline, which he can't do anymore...

for most players whose game is predominantly based on speed, the end can come quickly and suddenly as they lose this ability...see running backs as an example....

There could be two reasons....One is his dislike for cold weather (having played in Tampa all the time) and secondly the asking rate. I am sure the Bills would want him in their terms not in Brooks terms.

According to a Peter King article, Warren Sapp makes the comment that younger players are not as influenced by the veteran presence anymore and that is the reason that Brooks has not gotten any offers. Personally, I think Sapp is offering excuses for an over the hill player who, as others are pointing out, may be asking too much. Teams probably want to fill their roster spots with players that can play on special teams also. They don't have the luxury of reserving a roster spot for a backup. Players need to fill dual roles. The days of the specialist, like the designated pass rusher (remember Jim Jeffcoat?) are gone.

COACH Brooks may have a better ring to it for some team. T.O. can still play.
