Are the Giants legit as the consensus NFC Super Bowl pick? I'm torn - I don't see anyone clearly better than them, but they don't really strike me as any kind of powerhouse, especially now down Spaguolo.

QB is Eli, who has struggled so far without Burress and the team has yet to give him a replacement.

RB still has Bradshaw and Jacobs, but it can't be better now than it was with the two of them plus Ward.

WR is a mess.

TE is iffy.

If the Giants win the Super Bowl, it will be proof that all you need is a great offensive line, a great defensive line, and enough other players just to hold it all together.

"Clearly we could have done a better job in the rankings. We looked good during the proofreading on Friday, but they put some teams above us and you can't really prepare for that. I thought Trent had a nice ranking. The font looked good. You know, its hard to win in publishing."

That doesn't make much sense to me...

Me neither, especially since you consider that our 3rd wideout had 56 catches last year in 12 1/2 games (or about 70 plus in 16 in a run first offense), two youngsters in SJ and Hardy and the underused Roscoe Parrish. This team is stacked at WR.

I had a flight for work yesterday and I read some of this on the flight (after paying a ridiculous $14 for it) and thought that a lot of the rankings were garbage--based more on either name recognition or how popular (ie., big market) the team the player played for was on. For ex., no way is Stroud the 21st ranked DT in the League. I also thought Marshawn was ranked way too low as well as our CBs (for ex., McGee, who is at this stage of his career better than McKelvin, not even being mentioned).

PFW is way off base here, good for fire starting.

Until you win, no one is willing to take a chance on saying that you might be better than the last few years. And player rankings reflect the team's standing in almost all cases. The Bills are ranked lower than they will actually do and teams like NE* are ranked higher than they will actually do, esp. with Brady coming back from injury, etc. Unless they find a new way to cheat, no way the Patsies* go to the SB this year. That is just ridiculous. The refs may give them a few games, including the opening Monday night game, but NE* is not that great any more in terms of talent.

Quality coaching will make up for whatever talent you think they lack

they still have an all-stud DL which has dominated the Bills this decade

He ain't saying that we'll beat them--he's just saying that they're not as good as the hype. I agree with him. I think that it's the very rare sportswriter who can actually look at a team, the changes that have been made to that team (whether it be actual player changes or just the passage of time) and the other teams in the League and take a well-informed judgment about that team's prospects for the upcoming season. Way too many of these guys go with the "Let me see how good they were last year" and tweak it very slightly approach.....
