Green Bay's WR Ruvell Martin

Recommended Posts

If we are only looking for an interim receiver until Hardy can get adjusted to the NFL then here's the kind of acquisition that Buffalo might be interested in. He's tendered for the lowest amount and no compensation would be due. He's young and he's a great red zone target like Hardy. The biggest difference between the two of them is Martin has a few years under his belt in the NFL.

He's a decent player, but is he worth a 2nd round pick? He's a restricted FA, and that's the tender level that Green Bay set, so that's what it would cost in compensation for Buffalo to sign him.

No it's not. All Green Bay can do is match the offer to retain him. Martin was tendered for the low amount which is $1,010,430 and no compensation.

Where were you when Steve Johnson was making these real TD grabs and not a lucky bounce like Martin's off of those two DBs?

Seriously dude, take a look at the video of Johnson's touchdown catches and explain how Martin is better than him because he can grab a lucky bounce into his hands. What is wrong with you people? I swear this is the type of discussion behind the close doors at One Bills Drive and why we never get the draft right or FA acquisitions in the first place. They have no clue of who's a player and who's not a player.

Please tell me why Martin is better based on that lucky bounce. Johnson is tough and has great hands, he should have been the starter all 2008 but since we have a moron for a head coach that never did materialize. I seriously can't wait until the 2010 season when the Bills will hopefully have a new coach that knows WHO to play and HOW to use them.

Obviously the Bills are looking to add another WR, *see Coles. I'm not just talking about a lucky bounce, I'm talking size in the red zone. Wasn't that one of the attractions for us when we drafted Hardy was his size? I also remember seeing Johnson dropping a couple of critical balls last year. I won't hold it against him but maybe he doesn't have enough of the coaching staff confidence yet. I don't know but I do know that we're looking to add another WR so why not Martin?

Steve Johnson is 6' 2". So you believe that Martin is the better receiver because he's two inches taller than Johnson???? In his very limited time on the field Johnson was able to grab 2 hard thrown touchdown passes both on the road and in cold weather conditions. Every receiver will drop a ball or two so holding that against him is ridiculous. If this inept coaching staff doesn't have confidence in him then they're the ones that don't belong here. At least Johnson performed under pressure, Jauron's been here three seasons and has proven that there should be zero confidence placed on his decision-making abilities. Quantifying the coaching staff's confidence levels means nothing to me. Jauron is a loser who knows little about who can play in this league and who can't. Which explains to me this needless search for a #2 receiver.

Its just too much of a gamble to start a 7th round sophomore based on two plays. Anybody can make two plays and still be a bust.

I'm high on Johnson, too. I think he's going to be a player. But I'm not willing to bet the 2009 Bills' offense that he'll put it all together this season.

Calm down, I'm only making a suggestion here, that's all. I like Stevie Johnson too but I do think that we're going to add another WR. I also think that whoever we add is only for the short term until our other WRs like Hardy and Johnson have matured more. There's nothing wrong in adding the proper veteran presence until these guys are more ready to take on a prominent role with the team.

Are you sure? I have a note in my tracker (citing ESPN) that he was given the third-highest of four RFA tenders, which would be a 2nd round pick. Also, my understanding of the RFA system is that the lowest tender offer would afford the incumbent team compensation equal to the player's draft position, which in Martin's case would be a 4th round pick.

Admittedly, I'm no expert, so if you could explain it that'd be great.

I'll agree that there's nothing wrong with adding a cheap veteran WR for insurance, but if I'm the Bills I'm looking for one that will have no problem being on the bench if Johnson were to indeed win the job. A guy like B. Ingram or T. Holt. It'd be fun to watch that battle for the position, but if we had a real head coach that knew what he was doing, I see Johnson winning it hands down over both of those guys. I think Johnson was a steal and I hope they don't squash his chance in favor of a "play him because he's experienced" A-Train type situation. That is the loser Jauron way unfortunately.

We don't need another #3 wide out, we got plenty of them on the team. With Josh Reed, Roscoe Parrish. We need a solid number 2 guy, that's if it's bringing in Torry Holt, or another veteran Wide Out, highly doubt we'll get Torry Holt, he's a classy guy, but I think if he gets released, he'll reunite with Issac Bruce in San Francisco.

Someone last year had a massive erection over Ruvell Martin. I fail to see why. Because he's big? I know GB has some good WRs, but a guy that averages 17 catches for 250 yards per season and can't get higher than 4th on the depth chart is supposed to be this great #2?

I think that you might be thinking of S Atari Bigby. He was tendered at a 2nd rder. Martin wasn't drafted but maybe this link will explain.

http://www.madison.com/wsj/home/sports/440731

Wide receiver Ruvell Martin, defensive back Jarrett Bush, fullback John Kuhn and defensive end/outside linebacker Jason Hunter, who all received the low tender.

All four of those players entered the league undrafted, and by using the low tender of $1.01 million, the Packers retain the right to match any offer they receive. However, the Packers would receive no compensation if one of those players signed with another team and the Packers did not match the offer.

That's real funny Ramius, you know that it was me. I'm not promoting him as a great #2 WR just an adequate one. We drafted Hardy for this position and he is raw as hamburg. We don't need a great #2 WR just somebody who can get attention away from Evans, that's all.

In all seriousness, i didn't think it was you. i could have sworn it was someone else? Astrobot perhaps?

We do need a #2 to take attention away from Evans, but ruvell martin scares no one. I'd rather take my chances with Stevie Johnson.

That's fair to say. That was still funny though, "had a massive erection". LOL! I gotta get off the viagra.
