It's all about the Center...

Until this team gets a Center than can at least hold his own, the running game will suffer.

The opposing NT's are controling the line of scrimmage, impacting any pulling the off-guards or tackles are doing, which is freeing up the point of attack for a LB or Safety. The fact that Butler is also out is only accentuating the problem.

Interestingly... the last 2 weeks Butler and Fowler have been out. The last 2 weeks our run game has been abysmal. Is it possible that Butler and Fowler are better than we think they are?

Butler, likely. Fowler, no. The run game as fine against the Chargers, and Preston started that game.

The run game vs. Miami was fine. No, Butler or Fowler are not any better than we think they are. For this year, the line should be Peters, Dockery, Preston, Butthead(if healthy), and Walker. Next year, Peters, Dockery, JASON BROWN, ALEX MACK (until he is ready for line calls then he can flip with Brown) and Walker.

The run game vs. Miami was fine. .

the run game has been unispiring all year. Lynch has 0 .. 100 yd games. That is a tell tale sign of an insufficnet run game. Lynch does make some things happen occasionally, but it it's not enough to overcome our obvious interior OL issues.

Edwards passing has really been the only thing that has opened up any of our offense, and without the run game support, Edwards will continue to make mistakes trying to make up for the lack of our running game.

I'm not saying it couldn't of been better, just it wasn't ABYSMAL vs. Miami. Not that it matters, but if Lynch would have had the majority of the carries vs. the Phins, he would of had 100. The line and running philosophy in general need a BIG TIME overhaul this offseason as well as defensive philosophy mainly PASS RUSH.

I agree we are desperate for a center.

We also need a real pass rushing stud DE and a OLB to replace Ellison in the offseason.

Unless there is somebody in FA, I think you just summarized the Top 3 Draft needs next year.

Based on traditional depth at the positions it is likely to go:

Rd 1) DE

Rd 2) Center

Rd 3) OLB

If either Center or OLB is filled by FA, than replace it with DT or another DE.

Yesterday the best nose tackle in football came to Orchard Park and killed our center and RG all afternoon. Even so, 30 yards rushing at home is pathetic and the blocking should have been better than it was. Missing Lynch didn't really make much difference IMO, it was lack of blocking. You weren't wrong AT ALL about yesterday Dan. THAT was abysmal!!!

Offseason -- Sign Terrel Suggs, He can play with his hand in the dirt and get us the 10 sacks a year and constant pressure this team needs. Dont think he is a LB, he plays more DE for Baltimore these days. He could also play some LB as well if needed. Just what the doctor ordered

Draft- alex mack, but if not him, then whoever is the best center

I agree with you. Preston is by no means a great center, but he is serviceable (although I still think that we need to get a center early in the draft) and Fowler was not. Most of the problems (particularly yesterday) come from Butler being out. Whittle is pathetic; he gets tossed all over the field whenever he plays. He is already a smaller o. lineman at 295 pounds, but he doesn't seem very stong either. A lot of the problems with Jenkins yesterday occured with Jenkins opting to take on Whittle, tossing him aside, and proceeding to go through the newly created space between Whittle and Preston (although Preston has to learn to be more aware of what's going on beside him). Preston has to get better but what I'm saying is Jenkins did a lot more "blowing up" of Whittle than he did destroying Preston when faced him head up. Preston's because fault yesterday was not picking up enough of the slack for Whittle when he was routinely getting abused by Jenkins yesterday.
