Looks like Jets draft awfulness continues....

Gholston's whopping 3 tackles in the pre-season

The Jets have to be the worst drafting team of all time. When we talk about all-time, you have to consider decade by decade, and this is why the Lions cannot be the worst = at least they drafted Barry Sanders and they have had some good drafts in the past. Name one draft the Jets have had that = top 15 in the league that year. Maybe the recent ones? We'll see. B-)

How many times have the Jets drafted sketchy players/bought into the hype, even when there isn't any? They could have had Derrick Harvey, Sedrick Ellis, Keith Rivers, Jerod Mayo, or even McKelvin, because let's face it, Darell Revis doesn't make a secondary by himself. Instead they took Gholston over the screaming objections of Todd McShay, many posters here, pretty much everybody but Mel Kiper, Jr. Perhaps they are still afraid to contradict Mel ever since he

The draft is a crapshoot. See (OT) Mike Williams.

Williams isnt the best example considering 99% of Bills fans didnt want him

preseason stats are even less meaningless then preseason wins and losses

And in an effort of fairness, Revis played pretty darn good last year for a rookie. As for DEs, Shaun Ellis is still a Jet eight years after being drafted, and John Abraham was a difference maker eventually traded for a high pick. D'Brickashaw Ferguson will turn out, and Mangold is already a great center. The bad picks were Bryan Thomas and Dewayne Roberston, both drafted under Herm Edwards.

For 30 years? You would think the law of averages would show up sooner or later.

I'd be more critical if they picked someone unusual. Guys like Blair Thomas, D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Vernon Gholston, etc. were guys who were top prospects. But yes, you'd think they would have hit on more players over the years.

in a parallel universe. Here, people were tripping over themselves to congratulate Donahoe as the best GM ever.

people were also saying he was a salary cap genius which i never understood because all he did was cut a bunch of players...I was surprised how long it took Bills fans to come around and realize TD was severely overrated

I wanted McKinnie from day one. First of all you dont take a RT in the top 5 that you dont plan on moving to LT ( and they didnt ) and was probably better suited for Guard and you definately dont take a RT over a LT who was obviously the better player

i dont remember that much fanfair for Williams when he was drafted but I could be wrong...maybe its been so long that I blocked it out

I wasn't a fan of the pick either. I'd rather take a guy that can play than a guy that is huge, coated in a layer of baby fat, took ballet when he was in pre-school, is a comedian, and has red flags concerning his motivation. On the other hand, fans are all idiots.

I didn't want Williams or McKinnie. I wanted them to trade back and take Levi Jones. Similarly, I wanted them to trade back in 1997 and take Corey Dillon instead of Antowain Smith.

drafting Antowain Smith was wrong in every kind of way, he was an older college player playing a position with a shelf life of 5 years in the NFL...granted he was able to hang around but certainly never performed like a first round RB which is funny because Dillon played like a first round RB but dropped to the 3rd round because of off the field issues

I don't think one preseason defines a player. If it did, McKelvin would be defined as strictly a return specialist.

Not only that, but Mario Williams had the bust word given to him by a bunch of impatient morons after his first season of pro football, while Reggie Bush made a bunch of nice plays in New Orleans.

Tell me where both of those players stand now?

You're basing this on his first pre-season and he's a bust? Take a look at Mario Williams.

No. Of course I'm not saying he's a bust. I am saying: I bet Jets fan wish they had taken any of the guys I listed above right about now. I am also saying: it'spretty darn uncanny that the Jets can't seem to draft anybody they are "supposed" to for 25 years. Then, when start drafting players they are "supposed" to the last 5, they seem to suck/not play up to the spot they were picked.

I look at it like this - who cares whether the fans wanted him or not? We all know Marv's saying about listening to the fans...all I care is that the FO does their due diligence and makes the right pick. A lot of fans saw Williams' Texas pedigree and his towering physique and thought the same as a lot of reporters/draftniks - that he was a lock to be a dominating OT for a long time in a Buffalo uniform. Who knew he wasn't mentally tough enough to develop into the player everyone thought he could be?

Apparently, there are numerous people here that knew this exact fact. They just decided not to mention they knew it until 3-4 years later.
