I am a huge Warren Zevon fan and had seen him live several times, usually in bars, including one great show at The Tralf. I heard somewhere that he was going to play in LA (this was a few years ago) but couldn't find out where the show was. I searched everywhere and I knew the date but it wasn't listed. It got to be one of those obsession things where I wasn't going to be denied finding out where the show was even if I didn't go, and then, on an obscure Zevon online fan site I saw one reference to it, at a place called, IIRC, "Studio 55" in Hollywood. That was quite a night. You've told me this story before and I'm as jealous now as I was then. Can you recall the song that was looped? I believe Studio 55 is correct, for what it's worth. Buftex Posted April 17, 2007 Share Posted April 17, 2007 Over a one month period (my memory is a little hazy, sorry), while living in NYC, I saw the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, the Kinks and the Who....all were awesome, although I wished I had left the McCartney show after about 4 songs...he started out with "Can't Buy Me Love", and the (considerable) hair on my back stood on end...from there, and then it was one great Beatles or early solo song after another...until he hit, "With A Little Luck", and I was reminded why I have always had a hate/love thing with McCartney...I should have left there, and it would have been a near perfect show. The Poojer Posted April 17, 2007 Share Posted April 17, 2007 that was a hell of a show, started the show with the band walking down the center aisle beating a drum...Peter and Tony Levin and the rest of the boys were hanging outside the back of the sheas afterwards, they were taking off for letchworth to do some camping...my buddy and i stood out there with them for about an hour just shootin the bull...good times...good times! First concert (of a "rock'n'roll" nature) was Lynyrd Skynyrd, 1975 (I think), at the old Century Theater on Main Street here in The BuffTown. I was young and wide-eyed, but the crowd was so "into it" that I'd swear the balcony was shaking up and down. Could have been the mescaline, though. 'Favourite' concert - not to be confused with 'best' concert (that would be reserved for Segovia, Ashkenazy, Horowitz, Stern, et al) - would have to be Sinatra, 1982, at Kennedy Center - just 'cause my date was really hot - followed closely by Van Morrison at the Masonic in EssEff, Steely Dan at Hollywood Bowl, Zappa (Zoot Allures tour), and Zevon - particularly his one-man show at the Paradise in Boston back in the late '80's. Lately, I find I'm going to see lots of crap (Stones' and other fossils) - they're fun, to be sure, but more of a 'face-time' event than a musical one. You are correct about the balcony at the Century Theater...it shook like a motherfuc#er. I saw many concerts there but, I was usually so trashed, I can hardly recall them now. Good venue, though. All time favorite that comes to mind was "Sprinsteen" in Rochester about 1979. Had just got off work as a lifeguard at the downtown Holiday Inn and didn't have the money to get in. So hung around outside to see if I could hear any of it. A security guard let me in, probablty because he figured it was about to be over. The Boss played for another two hours. I wasn't at home, but logged on at probably 5:30pm...Zero tickets to be had. I know Steely Dan and while I'm not a HUGE fan, I know he has a following...The venue is small, but I was not expecting a sellout like that... That's pretty funny, Smokey. BTW, keep checking as tickets sometimes get "freed up" especially a week or so before the gig. Also, your parents might try going the "disabled" route.
